Inspiration for a contemporary bedroom remodel in DC Metro

A Modern home that wished for more warmth... An addition and reconstruction of approx. 750sq. area. That included new kitchen, office, family room and back patio cover area. The custom-made kitchen cabinets are semi-inset / semi-frameless combination. The door style was custom build with a minor bevel at the edge of each door. White oak was used for the frame, drawers and most of the cabinet doors with some doors paint white for accent effect. The island "legs" or water fall sides if you wish and the hood enclosure are Tambour wood paneling. These are 3/4" half round wood profile connected together for a continues pattern. These Tambour panels, the wicker pendant lights and the green live walls inject a bit of an Asian fusion into the design mix. The floors are polished concrete in a dark brown finish to inject additional warmth vs. the standard concrete gray most of us familiar with. A huge 16' multi sliding door by La Cantina was installed, this door is aluminum clad (wood finish on the interior of the door).

By combining green cabinets with wooden island cabinet, we saved the kitchen from mediocrity and blended it with gold fixtures, giving your kitchen a brand-new look and vitality.

The floors are polished concrete in a dark brown finish to inject additional warmth vs. the standard concrete gray most of us familiar with. A huge 16' multi sliding door by La Cantina was installed, this door is aluminum clad (wood finish on the interior of the door). The vaulted ceiling allowed us to incorporate an additional 3 picture windows above the sliding door for more afternoon light to penetrate the space. Notice the hidden door to the office on the left, the SASS hardware (hidden interior hinges) and the lack of molding around the door makes it almost invisible.

The combination of Rustic and Craftsman styles with a modern add-on of high end appliances and a modern layout created this masterpiece of a kitchen. The cabinets are painted off-white with antique glazing on it and the island is completely built from 100 year old reclaimed wood. the hardware is distressed iron finish and a black cement farmhouse sink all add to the story this kitchen tells. The full height pantry wall holds the 36" fridge, a built-in microwave space, the built-in espresso machine and a hidden door to the laundry room hiding in a room behind. We have intentionally did only 2 small wall mounted cabinets and instead opt with two 92" windows to allow maximum natural light, this also creates an open feeling in the work space. The edge detail of the island countertop is hand chiseled to give a rough sensation and works wonderfully with the reclaimed wood island, while the main countertop boasts a straight edge detail to give a modern touch.

Disparate colors, textures, and materials unite in this eclectic living home in Monrovia. The finished result is an elegant medley of style and function.

The hidden laundry room portion of this grand kitchen is located behind two pantry wall in the full height cabinet wall. Its combined with the open pantry shelves on the left and the stackable washer and dryer on the right, while the middle area is the work space.

A classical garage conversion to an ADU (Guest unit). This 524sq. garage was a prime candidate for such a transformation due to the extra 100+sq. that is not common with most detached garage units. This extra room allowed us to design the perfect layout of 1br+1.5bath. The bathrooms were designed in the classical European layout of main bathroom to house the shower, the vanity and the laundry machines while a secondary smaller room houses the toilet and an additional small wall mounted vanity, this layout is perfect for entertaining guest in the small backyard guest unit. The kitchen is a single line setup with room for full size appliances. The main Livingroom and kitchen area boasts high ceiling with exposed Elder wood beam cover and many windows to welcome the southern sun rays into the living space.

Designed by Maggie Walker of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Frederick, MD in collaboration with Rick Friend of Buildmark Remodeling & Construction, this Rustic Traditional kitchen design features cabinets from Ultracraft in the Boston door style in Rustic Alder with a Storm Gray with Brown Glaze finish. The kitchen countertops are granite in River Bordeaux on the perimeter and Absolute Black on the island. The sink is a focal point and features a 33" Copper Farmhouse Single Kitchen sink with Rounded Front Apron Front and Flat Ends from Copper Sinks Direct.
