Robin Stancliff photo credits.The goal of this project was to transform a basic kitchen into a kitchen with an upscale, Mediterranean look and feel. My client wanted the layout of the kitchen to stay the same while creating a space with a completely different style. Because she cooks frequently, I maintained useful and easily cleaned materials throughout the kitchen. She felt as though the island was reminiscent of a “cookie cutter” kitchen that lacked in character, so I created an island with a slight overhang in the seating area so it could be a useful space with a view of the entertainment room. One of the challenges in this kitchen was trying to keep as much of the original travertine floor as possible, so when necessary I matched the texture and color of the travertine with a porcelain look-alike. I added cabinets with varying heights and custom accents, such as grapes carved into corbels, to make the kitchen feel less standard. I also encased the refrigerator in cabinetry to give the kitchen a more custom look. An important aspect of this project was completely remodeling the pantry, which required bringing back the drywall and cutting into the archway of the kitchen. Instead of a standard door, I created a pantry with large cabinet doors in which every single interior inch is useful storage space. Essentially, this pantry remodel doubled the cubic inches of useful space in the pantry while improving the overall look of the kitchen. I added a lot of lighting throughout the entire kitchen, including lighting inside and underneath the kitchen cabinets as well as pendant lighting above the new island. With an easy-to-clean porcelain and resin backsplash and many new storage options, this kitchen has a luxurious Tuscan feel while being highly useful.

Jill’s primary bathroom needed more than just a facelift. The finishes felt outdated, storage space was lacking, and the layout didn’t offer a relaxing retreat. She wanted a design that was functional every day but also felt fresh and inviting. The old shower was removed down to the studs to create a brand-new custom design. Updated plumbing, waterproofing, and framing prepared the space for a much more durable and attractive setup. Walls were tiled with Bianco Lasa Matte in a vertical straight stack pattern, giving the shower clean lines and a spacious feel. A recessed niche was reframed to a larger size and finished with Blume Deco porcelain tile, creating an eye-catching accent. The shower floor was covered with Snow White recycled glass mosaic, paired with stainless Delta Trinsic fixtures for a cohesive look. A frameless glass enclosure with brushed nickel hardware opened up the room and completed the design. Old cabinetry was replaced with navy blue cabinets from Waypoint. A tall pantry cabinet in the center created more organization, while drawers and additional base cabinets maximized space. MSI Calacatta Alto quartz countertops were installed along with two undermount sinks for a clean, polished look. Delta Trinsic faucets tied in with the shower fixtures, keeping consistency throughout the bathroom. Kohler Essential framed mirrors and Kichler Crosby vanity lights centered over each sink improved balance and lighting. Satin nickel hardware from Elements completed the cabinetry, adding subtle shine against the bold cabinet finish. Carpet was replaced with Blume Deco tile, laid on a diagonal to add personality and connect with the shower niche. The water closet received the same tile, a new Miseno Bella dual-flush toilet, updated Delta accessories, and two new exhaust fans for better comfort.

Located in a bucolic area of Marin County, just outside of San Rafael, the original ranch residence had been inconsistently remodeled over the years. We completely renovated this Haverford home between Memorial Day and Labor Day! We maintained the traditional feel of this colonial home with Early-American heart pine floors and bead board on the walls of various rooms. But we also added features of modern living. The open concept kitchen has warm blue cabinetry, an eating area with a built-in bench with storage, and an especially convenient area for pet supplies and eating! Subtle and sophisticated, the bathrooms are awash in gray and white Carrara marble. We custom made built-in shelves, storage and a closet throughout the home. We renovated the exterior and installed the hardscaping of the traditional colonial home in Villanova, PA. The flagstone patio has a beautiful hand-crafted pergola made from reclaimed long leaf pine. The outdoor fireplace was constructed out of mica and granite and has two storage areas for wood. The stone retaining wall includes interior lighting. A short walk down an adjoining staircase brings you to a courtyard immediately outside of the basement. The courtyard features the same flagstone, stone retaining wall and interior lighting. We renovated the exterior and the 4-car garage of this colonial, New England-style estate in Haverford, PA. The 3-story main house has white, western red cedar siding and a green roof. The detached, 4-car garage also functions as a gentleman’s workshop. Originally, that building was two separate structures. The challenge was to create one building with a cohesive look that fit with the main house’s New England style. Challenge accepted! We started by building a breezeway to connect the two structures. The new building’s exterior mimics that of the main house’s siding, stone and roof, and has copper downspouts and gutters. The stone exterior has a German shmear finish to make the stone look as old as the stone on the house. The workshop portion features mahogany, carriage style doors. Sara Lee from Reico Kitchen and Bath in Charlotte, NC, worked with Joe Myers of HMP Construction to design a contemporary traditional style inspired upstairs bathroom. The vanities feature Ultracraft cabinets in the Ridgecrest door style with a Simply White finish, complemented by Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold Suede vanity tops. Kohler fixtures were also included in the remodel. Sara shared, “The existing bathroom wasn’t urgently in need of a remodel, but the clients wanted an updated look due to the aged finishes. We collaborated closely with Joe and Linn at HMP because of our strong working relationship. By listening to the client during the early design phases—even while they were on vacation—we selected the cabinetry style, finishes, fixtures, and tiles.” “We chose Ultracraft cabinetry for its customization options in both finishes and sizes. A tall pantry cabinet was added for much-needed storage, along with electrical outlets in the countertop cabinets for essential bathroom gadgets. This dark, dreary kitchen was large, but not being used well. The family of 7 had outgrown the limited storage and experienced traffic bottlenecks when in the kitchen together. A bright, cheerful and more functional kitchen was desired, as well as a new pantry space. We gutted the kitchen and closed off the landing through the door to the garage to create a new pantry. A frosted glass pocket door eliminates door swing issues. In the pantry, a small access door opens to the garage so groceries can be loaded easily. Grey wood-look tile was laid everywhere. We replaced the small window and added a 6’x4’ window, instantly adding tons of natural light. A modern motorized sheer roller shade helps control early morning glare. Three free-floating shelves are to the right of the window for favorite décor and collectables. White, ceiling-height cabinets surround the room. The full-overlay doors keep the look seamless. Double dishwashers, double ovens and a double refrigerator are essentials for this busy, large family. An induction cooktop was chosen for energy efficiency, child safety, and reliability in cooking. An appliance garage and a mixer lift house the much-used small appliances. An ice maker and beverage center were added to the side wall cabinet bank. The microwave and TV are hidden but have easy access. The inspiration for the room was an exclusive glass mosaic tile. The large island is a glossy classic blue. White quartz countertops feature small flecks of silver. Plus, the stainless metal accent was even added to the toe kick! Upper cabinet, under-cabinet and pendant ambient lighting, all on dimmers, was added and every light (even ceiling lights) is LED for energy efficiency. White-on-white modern counter stools are easy to clean. Plus, throughout the room, strategically placed USB outlets give tidy charging options.

With family life and entertaining in mind, we built this 4,000 sq. ft., 4 bedroom, 3 full baths and 2 half baths house from the ground up! To fit in with the rest of the neighborhood, we constructed an English Tudor style home, but updated it with a modern, open floor plan on the first floor, bright bedrooms, and large windows throughout the home. What sets this home apart are the high-end architectural details that match the home’s Tudor exterior, such as the historically accurate windows encased in black frames. The stunning craftsman-style staircase is a post and rail system, with painted railings. The first floor was designed with entertaining in mind, as the kitchen, living, dining, and family rooms flow seamlessly. The home office is set apart to ensure a quiet space and has its own adjacent powder room. Another half bath and is located off the mudroom. Upstairs, the principle bedroom has a luxurious en-suite bathroom, with Carrera marble floors, furniture quality double vanity, and a large walk in shower. There are three other bedrooms, with a Jack-and-Jill bathroom and an additional hall bathroom. Entering the back yard is like entering an English garden. To ensure a seamless look between the original new parts of the house, we built the covered patio using the same German schist stone and timber framed stucco. Further, the stone’s pointing matches the original historic stone, and we used a gray grout for a weathered, aged look. The space is finished off with spiraled lattice iron works and all slate roof. At the end of the roof is an open truss timber frame in a cathedral design. Copper flashing at the joints protects the wood from water sitting in the spaces and eventually rotting the joints. The patio itself features a flagstone floor, built in gas grill, and the other side of the Rumford fireplace found in the family room. Beautiful, clean white subway tiles line the walls and ceiling of the curbless shower. A tile niche is framed in handmade blue chair rail tile and the shower accent is handmade blue tile liner. The teak shower seat folds up when not needed. A hand held shower and stationary shower head in bright chrome adds to the look.

This Master Suite Addition project was initiated by our Clients’ desire to stay in their family home well into their golden years. Their wish list included a master suite and large open space for entertaining. With “Aging in Place” a main objective, our goal was to move all essential tasks to the first floor. Our design created a smooth transition between old house and new by expanding their dining room and adding a vestibule between the two spaces. This resulted in a much larger dining space and the larger entertaining area they were seeking. The master bedroom’s floor to ceiling windows on two of the walls frames picturesque views of their beloved garden outside. Vaulted ceilings, French doors to the bathroom with a transom window above express class and grandeur. Through the French doors the elegant master bathroom shines with reflections from the decorative crystal chandelier, white and grey tile, polished chrome fixtures and lighted glass bowls. A double headed shower, with dual temperature controls, and the air-jetted tub provide a true sanctuary for a relaxed bathing experience. “His and Her” elements are also fulfilled with dual vanities, and dual toilet areas. Upon completion, the homeowners passionately stated that this project turned out even better than they could have imagined. They truly love their new space in their long loved home and look forward to many more years in their new haven.
