Designer: Barbara Stowe, Allied ASID The clients were looking for a complete update of their original 1960's kitchen. They requested a clean and fresh look that would withstand the test of time. Although the footprint remained the same, eliminating soffits allowed for full height cabinets and made the space look larger. Brookhaven by Wood-Mode cabinetry, a narrow pull-out pantry cabinet and custom built-in plate rack provide plenty of storage and the dual-fuel Wolf range and Sub-Zero refrigerator are welcome upgrades. Classic colors of gray and yellow are repeated in the handmade ceramic tile back splash, the granite counter tops, porcelain plank tile flooring, decorative valance and the numerous fabrics. Antique chairs upholstered with new fabrics and a farmhouse table made from old doors add warmth, while polished nickel hardware and Schonbek crystal pendants add a bit of bling. The result is a kitchen that is wonderful to cook in as well as being a lovely gathering place for family and friends.

This small studio has everything! It includes apartment size small white appliances, stunning colors (Diamond Cloud Gray cabinets), and great storage solutions! Besides the beauty of the turquoise backsplash and clean lines this small space is extremely functional! Warm wood boxes were custom made to house all of the cooking essentials in arms reach. The cabinets flow completely to the ceiling to allow for every inch of storage space to be used. Grey cabinets are even above the kitchen window. This was a complete gut and remodel. There was a divider wall removed, increase in the island size and changed the direction it was running in the space. This was an older some so we had challenges with uneven and inconsistent wall heights. Wanting to use full height cabinets made this a challenge, but having the crown painted the same color as the cabinets and a taller band board, help hide this issue. A gray glazed island with a single chandelier adds some contrast from the perimeter cabinets. The cabinet hardware is a darker pewter finish. I used a multi color hand molded brick tile from Seneca Tile, for the back splash. No picture frame over the 48" Thermador range. Only the texture of the tile.

ATIID collaborated with these homeowners to curate new furnishings throughout the home while their down-to-the studs, raise-the-roof renovation, designed by Chambers Design, was underway. Pattern and color were everything to the owners, and classic “Americana” colors with a modern twist appear in the formal dining room, great room with gorgeous new screen porch, and the primary bedroom. Custom bedding that marries not-so-traditional checks and florals invites guests into each sumptuously layered bed. Vintage and contemporary area rugs in wool and jute provide color and warmth, grounding each space. Bold wallpapers were introduced in the powder and guest bathrooms, and custom draperies layered with natural fiber roman shades ala Cindy’s Window Fashions inspire the palettes and draw the eye out to the natural beauty beyond. Luxury abounds in each bathroom with gleaming chrome fixtures and classic finishes. A magnetic shade of blue paint envelops the gourmet kitchen and a buttery yellow creates a happy basement laundry room. We were asked to achieve modern-day functionality and style while preserving the architectural character of this Victorian home built in 1900. A farmhouse style was achieved in this new construction home by keeping the details clean and simple. Shaker style cabinets and square stair parts moldings set the backdrop for incorporating our clients’ love of Asian antiques. We had fun re-purposing the different pieces she already had: two were made into bathroom vanities; and the turquoise console became the star of the house, welcoming visitors as they walk through the front door.

Four work stations fit and function easily and beautifully in a tidy 300 SF space: (1) cooking, including separate gas and electric cooking surfaces; (2) prep/cleaning, on the island; and (3) food storage, in the cherry wood armoire concealing both refrigerator and pantry. (4) is the area between the food storage and double ovens (around the corner from the formal serving hutch) and is devoted to baking.
