Location: Eagan, MN, USA
This family of five wanted an inviting space to gather with family and friends. Mom, the primary cook, wanted a large island with more organized storage – everything in its place – and a crisp white kitchen with the character of an older home.
Challenges:
Design an island that could accommodate this family of five for casual weeknight dinners.
Create more usable storage within the existing kitchen footprint.
Design a better transition between the upper cabinets on the 8-foot sink wall and the adjoining 9-foot cooktop wall.
Make room for more counter space around the cooktop. It was poorly lit, cluttered with small appliances and confined by the tall oven cabinet.
Solutions:
A large island, that seats 5 comfortably, replaced the small island and kitchen table. This allowed for more storage including cookbook shelves, a heavy-duty roll out shelf for the mixer, a 2-bin recycling center and a bread drawer.
Tall pantries with decorative grilles were placed between the kitchen and family room. These created ample storage and helped define each room, making each one feel larger, yet more intimate.
A space intentionally separates the upper cabinets on the sink wall from those on the cooktop wall. This created symmetry on the sink wall and made room for an appliance garage, which keeps the countertops uncluttered.
Moving the double ovens to the former pantry location made way for more usable counter space around the cooktop and a dramatic focal point with the hood, cabinets and marble backsplash.

Custom designed corbels and island legs lend character.
Gilt open lanterns, antiqued nickel grilles on the pantries, and the soft linen shade at the kitchen sink add personality and charm.
The unique bronze hardware with a living finish creates the patina of an older home.
A walnut island countertop adds the warmth and feel of a kitchen table.
This homeowner truly understood the idea of living with the patina of marble. Her grandmother’s marble-topped antique table inspired the Carrara countertops.
The result is a highly organized kitchen with a light, open feel that invites you to stay a while.

Nip Tuck RemodelingThis inviting kitchen blends natural light with a clean and modern aesthetic. The spacious white island serves as a central gathering point, complemented by a set of four stylish metal bar stools with warm wood seats. Perfect for casual meals or entertaining, the island offers both functionality and a touch of industrial chic. The surrounding white cabinetry provides ample storage, while the nearby breakfast nook, bathed in light from large windows, creates a cozy dining space. Axis MundiWhen the Gimbels department store chain closed in 1986, many of its selling floors were converted into luxury apartments, including those of this branch at 86th Street and Lexington Avenue. The retailer’s soaring ceilings allowed Axis Mundi to create bedroom mezzanine spaces overlooking the living and dining rooms. Defining them with translucent glass welcomed natural light while retaining privacy. Downstairs, spaces bleed one into another, their basic monochromatic black-and-white palette acting as a unifying leitmotif. Yet each space feels distinct, with its own programmatic purpose, a feat largely achieved by varying floor and wall treatments—a graphic tile pattern in the entry, a red wall in the hall leading to the master suite, a colorful area rug in the living room. In the retailer’s heyday, the then-common saying, “Would Macy’s tell Gimbels?” implied the strategies the competitors kept from each other to gain the upper hand. Here, a structure iconic in its day also conceals something: a handsome, wholly contemporary repurposing that represents just the sort of innovation that made Gimbels the celebrated name that it was.

ReVision Design + BuildLarge 6 x 18" white shower tile means fewer grout joints to clean, and the eggshell finish hides water spots between cleanings. Board and batten wainscoting continues the white from the shower across the window wall. An 8' high mirrored closet door is handy when getting dressed in the morning.

IDF StudioThis transitional kitchen combines warm wood tones with clean, timeless details. A wood island with storage and brass hardware anchors the space, paired with off-white stone countertops and counter stools featuring brass legs and black leather seats. White peripheral cabinetry and a stainless steel French-door refrigerator provide a crisp, functional backdrop, while a glossy gray subway tile backsplash and iron-and-glass pendants add subtle contrast. Habitus Cork Mosaic “Penny” Tiles are the forward-looking green finish material! And like all cork products; Cork Mosaic Tile is a renewable resource. It is literally recycled from the wine stopper industry from Spain and Portugal. Chips are selected and fashioned by hand on sheets and installed to walls and floors, including wet areas, using thin-set mortar and tile grout. Similar procedures as for any typical ceramic or other mosaic tile. It can also be stained colors and finished in many ways using products we supply or recommend.
Canterbury Design Kitchen InteriorsThis handmade custom designed kitchen was created for an historic restoration project in Northern NJ. Handmade white cabinetry is a bright and airy pallet for the home, while the Provence Blue Cornufe with matching custom hood adds a unique splash of color. While the large farm sink is great for cleaning up, the prep sink in the island is handily located right next to the end grain butcher block counter top for chopping. The island is anchored by a tray ceiling and two antique lanterns. A pot filler is located over the range for convenience.
PB Kitchen DesignAt first glance this rustic kitchen looks so authentic, one would think it was constructed 100 years ago. Situated in the Rocky Mountains, this second home is the gathering place for family ski vacations and is the definition of luxury among the beautiful yet rough terrain. A hand-forged hood boldly stands in the middle of the room, commanding attention even through the sturdy log beams both above and to the sides of the work/gathering space. The view just might get jealous of this kitchen!
