Dewson lost interest in the project and put the land on the market subject to his company building whatever residence was approved. The purchaser Mr. Russomagno purchased the land and the plans and had Dewson’s build it. When the new owner met with the architects to go over the plans the only change to the original layout was he has a kitchen pantry door moved 3’ to the left! Richard Buchanan, who we has already done a number of roofs with pushed for our tiles. They were not sure if he wanted a brown or a Classic grey roof, so the roofer and I laid up a display of both. Mr. Russomagno is a man of few words stood in front of the display and said ‘Stuart if this was your house what would you have?” Dangerous question to ask a roof tile junky. He went off for about half and hour and when he came back I had laid up display starting with a few rows of Classic grey then blending with the Bown to give the look of an old weather stained roof. The client took one look at it and said ’Yes I like that’. Much later after the Russomagno’s where living in the house he called me to say that some friends had visited and asked him where he got all the old tiles from! Install: This roofer had never installed on of our tiles before or had never installed a batten system either. We spent a day with him on site to get things started and kept in close contact during the install. Once he got the idea of installing the battens, laying the hard parts of the roof first, the gables, the valleys and hips and around dormers etc, leaving filling in the field until after, he realized the huge time advantage battens provides especially on a steep pitched roof like this.

With the brief of out with the old, in with the new underway, Clifton and his team set out to deploy a modern feel to the apartment with updates to everything from the floors, walls, doors and even the appliances – prioritizing functionality and simplicity. As the kitchen had been left out of the past retouch, this time around with retirement underway in was more important to give the couple a contemporary space to explore their culinary skills. Rounded chairs and tables complement the more square-like feel of the room, with washed grey tiles and soft tan cabinets. Meanwhile, the living room and dining room were under the instructions to be void of paintings and wall decorations – with the exception of the past CD changer – as the focal point of the rooms was to remain the spectacular view which looks down upon Hong Kong's Central district all the way to the Kowloon harbourside. Again, curvey furniture can be seen among the interiors, with rounded sofas, chairs and even the coffee table. Jon and Bev loved the layout of their bathroom, however the materials were dated and discolored. Bev mentioned that she wanted something with a little movement and something that was clean and current. This light grey veined porcelain provides a soft movement and allows your eye to float across the room nicely. This tile is called Tru Marmi Silver Polished. The mosaic Valentino Bardiglio Tulip gives the opportunity to showcase a beautiful color theme throughout the room. The warm tone of the circle gives life and warmth to the larger wall tiles. Cascade, a nice quartz slab is featured as the vanity top, but also is seen in different parts of the shower. We used it as the seat bench, the shelves in the niche, and other areas. Nestled into the pines and fog, Gerrish Island made quite an eerie first impression. A winding driveway guided by a rhythm of trees so mature only the trunks could be seen through the car windows. The tree canopy created a darkened tunnel, its curves never providing clues to when it would end. The awe came from the pure excitement of what we would find around the bend. It was clad in age; dark weathered shingles, a mossy green trim, and craggy stonework. The screens had seen better days and the windows let in scant natural light. It had certainly been something special to its previous owners – a backdrop to highly anticipated summer escapes, grassy yard games, and beach days. It had been a special place to someone – empty now – but with the promise of huge potential. READ MORE >> The new owner of this turn-of-the-century shingle style home saw this potential too, asking us to imbue the home with that same sense of nostalgia, but in present day context for a modern day family. We documented the home inside and out, piecing together a loose timeline to its beginnings and its earlier additions and renovations. The style of the home, its massing and siting, were originally done brilliantly and would remain intact. Wherever we could keep the original stonework we did. It provided such a strong connection to the site and the tremendous amount of existing stone outcropping common to the Island. The original porch facing west, cold and enclosed, was demolished, making way for a new wrap around porch that now glows as the sunsets. Another screened porch to the back was fully winterized and made into a new family room. The interior was stripped back to the studs and reworked, only minimally, to improve flow or eliminate small rooms no longer necessary for present day living. New systems were installed and the kitchen was updated and reconfigured opening up to the new family room. Years later we were asked back to add a garage; something the home had never had. More flattering still, after the property sold again, the newest owners asked us to design a rear ‘L’ shaped addition to house. The design evolved to look like an original porch that had been enclosed, to house a more traditional butler’s pantry, mudroom, and an interior connection to the garage’s second floor where we would eventually design two additional guest suites. These Hanover, MA clients came to Renovisions as they wanted a local design-build company to rework and expand their small and outdated 1980’s colonial kitchen. We collaborated and created an expanded 12’x15’ addition space to accommodate a newly designed kitchen which is now 21’x15’. Before we began with the construction process, proper structural engineering presented a challenge as the property was built on ledge. As expected, we determined that several concrete supports were necessary and needed to be built to support the expanded structure. Our plan included both creative aesthetic and functional layout modifications to transform this ordinary kitchen into a spacious, well-lit, highly functional, stylish and welcoming space to cook, gather and entertain. The bump-out allowed for more functional cabinetry and a dining table which before was placed in a corner of the previous cramped kitchen. Now, there is a wide open space from the adjacent living room and a clear path to a 5’ French door opening to the pool deck. The homeowners also elected for us to extend a new roof over their existing deck creating a nice shaded space to entertain guests. The island, which serves as the central gathering spot. is eye catching with contrasting dark cocoa colored cabinets and stunning natural looking Cambria quartz countertops. This curved window sunroom we made for our client David E. in Downtown Los Angeles, California was our most challenging and proudest project yet. We had to perfectly design a never-before-attempted template to remove the ugly grids his older, aluminum window frames had made. His majestic view of Los Angeles was replaced by 16 ugly aluminum windows which were deteriorating right before his eyes.
