At the Eastward Remodel Studio Home assisted the client in designing a contemporary kitchen that was open concept for entertaining. The contractor made the design come to life by demolishing the nicotine stained walls, hunter green carpet, and old nonfunctional cabinetry. Studio Home provided new Medallion custom cabinetry in the Onyx stain, as well as Pental Quartz countertops, and Floorte luxury vinyl plank floors. This transformation is stunning.

We also added a custom gas-burning stone fire pit with a curved stone seating wall just off the covered patio. We used Austin chopped stone in the color Nicotine for the fire pit surround and seating wall, along with gray Lueder’s stone tops.

The previous owner was an inside smoker of 60 years, walls were stained with nicotine and a strong smell filled the home. Special preparation was needed to properly seal the substrate to block all nicotine stains and prevent tar from absorbing into our finish coat. A special shallac primer was used which blocked all stains and stench and provided a sound surface for our finish coat to adhere to. After painting was completed it couldn't be noticed it had been filled with with 60 years of daily smoking.

As part of the project we installed a drainage system. Rainwater flows through the patio, into the drainage system and into a common area.

As with all of the projects Archadeck of Austin designs and builds, the clients’ choices of materials and amenities result in a unique, custom design. The light-colored stone the homeowners chose for this patio is one reason it feels so fresh, open, and inviting. For the base of the outdoor kitchen and seating wall, they selected a mix of white and nicotine limestone. The kitchen counter space, the ledge along the backsplash, and the bench seating feature surfaces of smooth Lueders limestone in a buff color.

We built the 6’ wood-burning outdoor fireplace at one end of the patio cover, in the center, designed with hardscape firewood storage boxes on either side. We carefully matched the stone here to the stone on the front of home, a combination of white limestone with nicotine and blue Lueders limestone. Finally, we used standard buff Lueders stone to top the horizontal surfaces—the mantel, the hearth and the hardscape firewood storage boxes.

Side yard of large property formerly dumping ground for landscape clippings and loose stones. Now park like side yard with entrance from front yard and back yard. It took about one month to complete. Grass is Celebration Bermuda. Stairs and patio stone is nicotine limestone. Dry creek stone is Arizona river rock. All other stones were reclaimed from the space.
