At Driveways by Design, safety and functionality are paramount to us. Peace of mind that your vehicle will enter and exit in a forward position, eliminating unwanted turns, blind spots, or backing out onto busy streets, all are priceless. When designing a driveway, it’s not just about the proper materials, the latest trends, style, colors, but it is also about the impact on the household, environment, and infrastructure. Nowadays many factors affect the daily life of south floridians, i.e. the heat island effect, some cities no longer allow circular driveways (zoning codes have become very restrictive about the amount that can be paved in order to mitigate the heat island effect,) construction happening all over our city, poor transportation systems, a turntable can truly enhance our daily experience, making it easier to exit our homes, no more agglomerations of traffic, or concrete trucks backing out, and no more worries about children or pets running unexpectedly behind the car. Designed by Shosh vant Verlaat and installed/maintained by Driveways by Design, the Car Turntable is ideal for residential and commercial applications, and will maximize the use of space, improve driver's visibility, as well as add value to your property.

Magnolia is a mid-century house, reclaimed and enlivened for the next hundred years.
The house was owned for half a century by husband-and-wife horticulturalists, who built the house in 1954 from Better Homes and Gardens plan book, a warren of rooms now outdated for today’s way of living. The new owners sought to honor them the home and the site.
The house is in a temperate zone, surrounded by thriving gorgeous rare species, and with a dramatic view of Mount Hood, the house was completely re-envisioned and carefully expanded to be an elegant place to live, to entertain and to enjoy the comfortable climate and the lovely change of seasons.
The foundation was maintained, the roof was raised and a wing was added for master living suite.
The top floor of the house was sustainable deconstructed and recycled.
Dramatically, the front entrance was moved to the South side of the house, creating an entry sequence that received the guest into the new context through a persimmon tree-lined Tori gate, a nicely designed forecourt, articulated pond and patio, to an entry inspired by the philosophy of Japanese wooden buildings.
Only upon entering the foyer, are you first presented with the view of the mountain. The mountain is a guest in every living space of the house: at the hallway desk, you peek out from under the pendulous weeping cherry tree to the slope, at the Library/Guest room the new French doors and balcony present it for elegant dialogue, the guest room below and the master bedroom each have an intimate relationship with the iconic presence.
Nowadays, kitchens are the heart of the home and the energy area for entertaining. The main living space is a farmhouse kitchen, dining room and living room in one communal space, bookended by an outdoor living room. A pair of Rumford fireplaces stitch the rooms together and create an edge and hearth to the rooms, the mountain at your side. The Magnolia envelops this corner of the house.
Wire frame ‘chimneys’ lighten the load on the roots around the Magnolia tree, it is the largest and oldest specimen of the species known in the western hemisphere outside of Kew Gardens. The tree has developed a unique personality to it’s frame in the last half-century and as odd penile-looking see pods. The ‘chimneys’ are really trellises to allow the plantings to take over the home.
The entire home is grounded by Montana Limestone, sustainably gathered on the Takashima’s Montana property.
The front door, cabinetry and millwork are all built from knotty Alder. The island butcher-block is made from Madrone. Both are underappreciated understory hardwoods from local forests.
The craftsmanship of the millwork was accomplished through collaboration of the architects with local artisans. The cabinet maker, finish carpenter and custom door-maker all influenced the language of sharply stepped kerfs that are repeated throughout via dado cuts and rabbets. This careful detailing brings the elemental quality of the stacked trabiated structure through to the small details of the home.

Log Cabins Over The Ages
Log cabins have been in existence for a long time and it is assumed that they were first built during the Bronze Age. This means that humans have been living in log cabins for over 5000 years. Written works from that age show that logs were placed over one another to build log cabins and if there were any gaps in between logs, then wood chippings were used to fill them.
Log cabins are more prevalent in the cool climes rather than the hotter ones and this is the reason that you can find a lot of log cabins in Europe rather than in South Asia. The early settlers in North America used the Scandinavian technique of building log cabins when they settled in the cold parts of the continent.
Over the years when larger homes started being constructed, log cabins started being used as outbuildings. Though they were used as outbuildings the charm of log cabins has not diminished. In fact, Abraham Lincoln has gone on to say that he was proud to be born in a log cabin.
In the United Kingdom log cabin construction ceased considerably in the 20th century. People found it below their dignity to live in log cabins, as they thought that it was just basic housing. However, over time, log cabins have made a comeback and you can find log cabins in almost every garden in the UK. It has become a very common sight.
There are many log cabin kit providers in the UK like Waltons. The choice of log cabin is also many such as:
• Corner Log Cabin
• Log Cabin Studio
• Home Office Log Cabin
• Insulated Log Cabin
• Pool House Log Cabin
• Traditional Log Cabin and much much more.
Nowadays everyone likes to be hands on and hence you get DIY log cabin kits. Everything is laid out for you and you just need to follow the steps mentioned. You can do it alone or you can get one or two of your friends or family to help you and you will be able to create a log cabin. Creating anything gives a lot of satisfaction and when you create something truly nice you will feel genuinely overwhelmed. If you do not like to get your hands dirty then you have the option of asking the provider to send professionals to come and set up the log cabin for you.

These three images serve as a mood board for our Los Angeles Redesign. Incorporating nature back into Los Angeles was at the fore-front of our redesign.
The top image is from Avatar the Last Airbender, called the Banyan-Grove Tree. This tree drove our figurative narrative concept of "roots" that connect the entire 1x1 mile square we were tasked to redesign. In the show, the banyan tree expands its roots all across the swap to plant more trees.
The last two images serve as a visual aid for the "Routes to Roots" redesign. Lots of trees with expansive roots
Narrative:
Many years ago, a vast tree once enchanted the plains of Los Angeles. Scientists could not track the tree's age, deeming it immortal due to its many deeply ingrained and expansive roots across the city. To this day, scientists are still uncertain about the tree's origin. Its roots and lush branches sprawled anywhere it could, engulfing anything in its path. The tree had unique properties; anyone who touched the tree's foundations could communicate with another person a mile away and, on special occasions, grant auspicious fortunes. The city worshiped this magical tree because it was the center of all life. Or so it was. The discovery of the tree's healing sap quickly drove people mad, and in a frenzy, people began to chop at the tree. The growth of filmmaking and Hollywood attracted many people to LA because of the great weather and diverse landscape. Oil was discovered near the tree shortly after. Finally, oil production was the tipping point, and these three factors led to the demise of the immortal tree.
By 1950, the vast tree had no longer enchanted the city. Nowadays, problems with constant traffic, heavy air pollution, and past effects of redlining have all repelled the potential residents of the territory. Gridding lurks within the city, unconsciously controlling the movement of people. The severe health risks from these problems and the water scarcity and well-being are making researchers rethink the city's future. Due to this, the government tasks architects from all over the country to redesign Los Angeles, but it has to relate to the once immortal tree. At the same time, they are providing solutions to these five issues: redlining, heat severity, accessibility, open spaces, and lastly, preserving essential landmarks and bringing back the city's roots while still housing the population. Years later, a team of architects pitched their 200-year redesign, reimagining the superfuture of Los Angeles. The mission will be titled "From Routes to Roots". Here's what they pitched:

Beauty is what a person admires whether it is in your own house or out on the streets. Glass tiles are one of the best ways to induce beauty in your homes. There are a different variety of glass tiles found, out of which one unique kind is Subway tiles. The name itself is enough to tell the tale of its origin. Initially these glass tiles were used to form arts on subways in order to make them admirable but most of all the eye catching areas of city. They were used to decorate subway systems of New York City. These subway systems were introduced back in 1900s. These tiles are glossy as well as dirt resistant so require less maintenance and this was probably the main reason why architects and designers found it more appealing to be used for the underground spaces of subways.
But nowadays people want everything in their life to be a different shade of trendy and classy. Subway tiles are one of the trendiest things that are recommended by designers. And believe you me, these glass tiles are heaven. I found them beautiful and soothing. My interior designer covered up the walls of my kitchen with these glass tiles and since then the kitchen has become my favorite room.
It does not matter if you design it the way you want or keep it simple, these glass tiles will never lag behind in surprising you with their classy look. Provide any room a border or a whole art with Subway tiles.
With kids in your house things tend to get dirty. Paints are splashed and dirt is brought in but you cannot just stop them from enjoying these best moments of their life. Now can you? No of course not. That would be so unfair. So why not buy Subway tiles and make your life easy? They will give your house a tailored and fashionable look but that’s only one out of many advantages they have. As I already told you that these glass tiles are easy to clean and require less care, so there you go. Problem solved! Invite as many kids as you like in your home now.
Some things are so persistent that they keep coming back in vogue. Among such things Subway tiles are one. As they have been used by designers for years. So it’s time for you to decide a shade of these amazing glass tiles for your home as well.
