PROJECT SCOPE & OBJECTIVES The homeowners are avid admirers of the Versace lifestyle and aesthetic and challenged our team to create a highly personalized primary suite that embodied the drama, sophistication, glamour, and artistic expression associated with the iconic fashion house. The objective was not simply to renovate an aging bathroom, but to completely reimagine the entire primary suite experience—including both the bathroom and adjoining walk-in closet—as a luxury wellness and dressing retreat. The existing bathroom and closet featured traditional finishes, compartmentalized spaces, builder-grade storage solutions, and a dated design vocabulary that no longer reflected the homeowners’ tastes or lifestyle. The scope of work included a complete demolition and redesign of the primary bathroom and custom walk-in closet, encompassing all finishes, cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, lighting, architectural details, decorative elements, custom storage systems, and specialty millwork. The design intent centered on creating a bold, immersive environment utilizing dramatic monochromatic tones, custom fabricated elements, statement lighting, oversized stone applications, curated artwork, and a sophisticated interplay of texture and materiality. Every component was carefully selected to contribute to a cohesive luxury experience where the bathroom and closet function as a unified extension of one another. The resulting design transformed a conventional primary suite into a highly customized sanctuary that reflects the owners’ passion for fashion, art, luxury, and contemporary design. PROJECT CHALLENGES One of the primary challenges was translating the essence of the Versace brand into a residential environment without creating a literal or themed interpretation. The goal was to capture the emotion, elegance, and drama associated with high fashion while ensuring the spaces remained timeless, refined, and highly functional. Another significant challenge involved balancing a predominantly dark color palette throughout both the bathroom and dressing room environments. Dark materials can easily feel heavy or oppressive if not carefully executed. Particular attention had to be given to lighting design, material selection, visual layering, and texture to ensure the spaces remained inviting while maintaining their dramatic character. The walk-in closet presented its own unique design challenge. The owners desired a dressing room that would function as an extension of the luxury bathroom experience rather than a separate utilitarian storage area. The challenge was to transform a standard builder-grade closet into a sophisticated fashion-inspired environment capable of displaying clothing, handbags, accessories, and collectibles in a manner consistent with the overall design vision. Additionally, the project required the successful integration of numerous statement elements—including oversized stone surfaces, custom lighting installations, decorative mirrors, artwork, architectural wall treatments, bespoke cabinetry, and specialty storage systems—while maintaining visual harmony and preventing the space from feeling overly busy or cluttered. PROJECT SOLUTIONS To achieve the desired aesthetic, our team developed a comprehensive design strategy centered around contrast, texture, craftsmanship, and visual drama. A sophisticated palette of charcoal, black, graphite, and metallic gold tones was employed throughout the suite, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of luxury hospitality environments and haute couture fashion houses. The focal point of the bathroom became the sculptural freestanding soaking tub positioned on a custom stone platform with LED lighting and framed by an oversized feature wall clad in dramatically veined stone. This installation establishes an immediate sense of luxury and serves as the visual anchor of the entire suite. The walk-in closet was reimagined as a boutique-inspired dressing room featuring custom-designed black oak cabinetry, integrated LED lighting, specialty display shelving, illuminated storage niches, custom accessory organization, and a central dressing vanity. The design intentionally blurs the line between residential closet and luxury retail environment, allowing fashion, accessories, and personal collections to become part of the overall design composition. To offset the darker finishes throughout both spaces, layered lighting was incorporated using recessed illumination, integrated LED accents, decorative fixtures, display lighting, and reflective surfaces. These elements create depth and dimension while highlighting the richness of the materials and craftsmanship. Custom fabricated cabinetry, oversized stone surfaces, designer mirrors, curated artwork, architectural wall treatments, and carefully selected decorative elements were utilized throughout the suite to create a fully immersive environment where every detail contributes to a unified design narrative. The completed project successfully transformed a dated primary suite into an extraordinary luxury retreat that merges the worlds of fashion, hospitality, wellness, and residential design. The result is a highly personalized environment that reflects the homeowners’ lifestyle while demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship, innovative design thinking, and meticulous execution.

Originally built in 1915 in the Shingle style, this house was “modernized” in the 1940’s to be a center hall colonial. The transformation resulted in several eccentricities that, when combined with the history of the house, informed our design. We have been working with the family for many years, and have been responsible for the architecture, the interior design, and selection of all furniture, finishes, artwork, lighting, antiques, etc. We have also coordinated the efforts of numerous other consultants, including the landscape architect, the well driller, the landscape lighting designer, and more. We have also designed multiple custom furniture pieces, and worked with numerous artisans and craftspeople on specific pieces for the house. Our design retains the character and detail of original house, yet works in furniture pieces and design elements that seamlessly tie together a blend of western and eastern influences. We renovated and/or created following: family room, workroom, laundry room, guest suite, home office, and wine cellar in the basement; living room, dining room, sun room with bar, family room, powder room, kitchen, and breakfast area on the first floor; master suite and three bedrooms and two bathrooms on second floor; home office, and study on third floor; and painting studio, reading room, bathroom, and 3-car garage in carriage house. The home includes a Japanese Tearoom and a Japanese Guest Suite. The project included installation of all new systems, including forced air heating and cooling, hydronic radiant heating on all floors, new plumbing and bathrooms throughout, new insulation, and a new slate roof with copper gutters and leaders. We also renovated the carriage house where we added dormers, a porch, and transformed the building into a painting studio, with views out to the new Japanese Garden.

This client’s busy lifestyle includes a pool, preteens and pets which called for a durable and waterproof flooring to run not only through the kitchen but through the entire lower level of their home. We found the perfect flooring product which spurred the new kitchen design. Our clients wanted their builder basic kitchen to have a fresh and updated feel. We started by lowering the bar to create a more open feel to the living room. We transformed their unused desk area into a function wine bar. We removed the original island and designed a larger custom island to incorporate a unique pet feeding area as well as a drawer microwave. New appliances were added throughout as well as painted cabinets, granite countertops and glass subway tile as the backsplash. Extensive lighting upgrades included numerous overhead can lights, pendants over the bar and Adorne under cabinet lighting and electrical system (allows for an uninterrupted backsplash). Also, along the Pea gravel pathways are numerous 100-150- yr old primary growth hardwoods, specimen Crape Myrtles, Magnolias, Chinese & Blood-red maples, as well as, thousands of flowering plants!

Originally built in 1915 in the Shingle style, this house was “modernized” in the 1940’s to be a center hall colonial. The transformation resulted in several eccentricities that, when combined with the history of the house, informed our design. We have been working with the family for many years, and have been responsible for the architecture, the interior design, and selection of all furniture, finishes, artwork, lighting, antiques, etc. We have also coordinated the efforts of numerous other consultants, including the landscape architect, the well driller, the landscape lighting designer, and more. We have also designed multiple custom furniture pieces, and worked with numerous artisans and craftspeople on specific pieces for the house. Our design retains the character and detail of original house, yet works in furniture pieces and design elements that seamlessly tie together a blend of western and eastern influences. We renovated and/or created following: family room, workroom, laundry room, guest suite, home office, and wine cellar in the basement; living room, dining room, sun room with bar, family room, powder room, kitchen, and breakfast area on the first floor; master suite and three bedrooms and two bathrooms on second floor; home office, and study on third floor; and painting studio, reading room, bathroom, and 3-car garage in carriage house. The home includes a Japanese Tearoom and a Japanese Guest Suite. The project included installation of all new systems, including forced air heating and cooling, hydronic radiant heating on all floors, new plumbing and bathrooms throughout, new insulation, and a new slate roof with copper gutters and leaders. We also renovated the carriage house where we added dormers, a porch, and transformed the building into a painting studio, with views out to the new Japanese Garden.

Building on the Stamford coastline is technically challenging and tricky. RAC’s experience in waterfront design came in very handy while developing this 3500 s.f. beach cottage. Our client wanted an open floor plan with room to entertain, as well as spaces to retreat. Numerous discussions over many months resulted in a well-thought-out custom designed modern home that will provide comfort and beauty for years to come.

I designed and assisted the homeowners with the materials, and finish choices for this project while working at Corvallis Custom Kitchens and Baths. Our client (and my former professor at OSU) wanted to have her basement finished. CCKB had competed a basement guest suite a few years prior and now it was time to finish the remaining space. She wanted an organized area with lots of storage for her fabrics and sewing supplies, as well as a large area to set up a table for cutting fabric and laying out patterns. The basement also needed to house all of their camping and seasonal gear, as well as a workshop area for her husband. The basement needed to have flooring that was not going to be damaged during the winters when the basement can become moist from rainfall. Out clients chose to have the cement floor painted with an epoxy material that would be easy to clean and impervious to water. An update to the laundry area included replacing the window and re-routing the piping. Additional shelving was added for more storage. Finally a walk-in closet was created to house our homeowners incredible vintage clothing collection away from any moisture. LED lighting was installed in the ceiling and used for the scones. Our drywall team did an amazing job boxing in and finishing the ceiling which had numerous obstacles hanging from it and kept the ceiling to a height that was comfortable for all who come into the basement. Our client is thrilled with the final project and has been enjoying her new sewing area.

We were able to complete this job quickly and efficiently, delivering a high quality product at an affordable price. Originally built in 1915 in the Shingle style, this house was “modernized” in the 1940’s to be a center hall colonial. The transformation resulted in several eccentricities that, when combined with the history of the house, informed our design. We have been working with the family for many years, and have been responsible for the architecture, the interior design, and selection of all furniture, finishes, artwork, lighting, antiques, etc. We have also coordinated the efforts of numerous other consultants, including the landscape architect, the well driller, the landscape lighting designer, and more. We have also designed multiple custom furniture pieces, and worked with numerous artisans and craftspeople on specific pieces for the house. Our design retains the character and detail of original house, yet works in furniture pieces and design elements that seamlessly tie together a blend of western and eastern influences. We renovated and/or created following: family room, workroom, laundry room, guest suite, home office, and wine cellar in the basement; living room, dining room, sun room with bar, family room, powder room, kitchen, and breakfast area on the first floor; master suite and three bedrooms and two bathrooms on second floor; home office, and study on third floor; and painting studio, reading room, bathroom, and 3-car garage in carriage house. The home includes a Japanese Tearoom and a Japanese Guest Suite. The project included installation of all new systems, including forced air heating and cooling, hydronic radiant heating on all floors, new plumbing and bathrooms throughout, new insulation, and a new slate roof with copper gutters and leaders. We also renovated the carriage house where we added dormers, a porch, and transformed the building into a painting studio, with views out to the new Japanese Garden.
