The new driveway was constructed of a porous asphalt material which improved the stormwater management adjacent to the wetland. The landscape planting featured a variety of long blooming, native flowering perennials which attract beneficial insect species. This contributes to the successful management of the landscape with sustainable organics. The custom kinetic sculpture adds a nice finishing touch. Instead of a typical evergreen hedge, native clethra was planted on the property border to define the space while contributing fragrance, grace and pollinators to what easily could have been a less active, sterile space. Heavily planted ground cover natives such as ajuga, creeping jenny, Irish moss, sweet woodruff and geraniums made the need for weeding practically obsolete. The use of ground covers as mulch was most effective for resource management.

The crew over at Housekick builds/renovates and sells over forty houses a year in the Raleigh Triangle area, so having an efficient construction process and the ability to pre-sell their properties is crucial to their business model. Because of our extensive experience with interior design, real estate, and construction projects, they rely on us to come up with complete design plans from start to finish and then use these to build and pre-sell their projects. Original Conditions: This typical 1970’s choppy split-level house was e “functionally obsolete,” had three bedrooms, two baths, and no real master suite before we got our hands on it. Changes: Upon completion, the home had four bedrooms, three full baths, a full master suite, and an open floorplan with modern architectural details. The Result: Because of our design plans and visualizations, our clients were able to create a stunning property that was functionally current, appealed to the correct demographic, and wowed potential buyers resulting in the home selling before it ever hit the market!

By Design "I WANT THAT" Wednesday find of the week . . . pull out drawers in the kitchen, pantry and bathrooms are not new. This feature has been making stationary shelves obsolete BUT add some LED tape light and an "instant on" or "motion sensor" feature to the space and you've REALLY got something! The possibilities are endless.

This client needed to update their historic East Coast-style home to match their modern lifestyle without sacrificing its beauty and elegance. Moore Design Group enhanced the original design with a reconfigured layout, horizontal and vertical design elements, and careful attention to detail. We blended original architectural features with the convenience of contemporary appliances, custom cabinetry, finishes, fixtures, and lighting. The kitchen was a client priority; we centered the room around a grand island with an eat-at bar that inspires shared meals and conversations. Walls were eliminated to open up the space. Custom cabinetry and granite slab countertops were installed, and the wood floors were refinished. For a final touch, the owner created architectural ceiling moldings that reflect the adjacent dining and living rooms. We reclaimed obsolete space to create a primary ensuite. A steam shower, claw-foot tub, and traditional double basin vanity transformed the bathroom into a bespoke sanctuary. Our discovery of a fabulous gray, blue and beige marble for wainscoting and countertops launched the lovely, soft palette. An added touch of luxury: a dressing table and wardrobes line the adjacent bedroom

Recently my Mother lost the use of her legs. We completely remodeled her bathroom, removing an obsolete deep tub that was impossible to get in and out of for seniors. Her tub area was transformed into a wheelchair accessible shower and a small traditional tub was added where the tiny shower used to be. A reclaimed wood table became the vanity top with room for her wheelchair and we installed two semi recessed sinks for easy access. Hats and art from her travels to China still grace the walls, along with a shutter I found at Decor Direct, a crazy store here in Sarasota with Asian, ethnic goodies. It appears that we have a window in the bathroom. She loves the ability to still shower, even if in a shower chair. personal iphone photo
