Earlier this year we completed a kitchen, lounge and bedroom refurbishment on behalf of our lovely client, and felt honoured to be called back to also refurbish their dining room into a cosy snug area recently. When designing the space, we wanted to repeat similar materials, colours and themes that were in the other refurbished areas so that our client's property had flow and harmony. We replaced the flooring throughout the house and incorporated a gorgeous sisal rug made from the same material as the main lounge and had the space painted in the same colour as the hallway and had a feature wall installed to provide tantalising texture. Before doing this, we had the side window safely boarded up so that wall lights could be installed and so that the room regained it's symmetry. Previously, the window provided only a restricted amount of day light due to the neighbouring property obstructing light, and hence, was redundant of it's primary function. We decided to install wall lights each side of the television to provide additional lighting that did not obstruct the view of the TV. Overall, the space was transformed into an indulgent yet gloriously cosy room, perfect for snuggling up, watching a film and welcoming those winter nights in.

Casual seating to the right of the bar contrasts the bold colors of the adjoining space with washed out blues and warm creams. Slabs of Italian Sequoia Brown marble were carefully book matched on the monolith to create perfect mirror images of each other, and are as much a piece of art as the local pieces showcased elsewhere. The new design consisted of a a larger deck that created a space that was more feasible for entertainment and family enjoyment. A roof was built over the new deck to protect the space from the weather but it also needed to appear as part of the original design of the home. The new addition still allowed ample natural lighting into the home without obstructing the backyard views.

The expansive rustic deck of Mountain Lodge at Pinchot Forest features hand-hewn timber railings and weather-resistant IPE wood decking, seamlessly connecting indoor/outdoor living. Living Stone Design + Build incorporates a native stone fire pit and custom steel-and-cedar seating that frames breathtaking mountain vistas. Sustainable design elements include solar-powered perimeter lighting and FSC-certified materials, while strategic sightline planning maintains privacy without obstructing forest panoramas.

These clients decided to make this home their Catalina Mountain homestead, after living abroad for many years. The prior yard enclosed only a small portion of their available property, and a wall obstructed their city lights view of northern Tucson. We expanded the yard outward to take advantage of the space and to also integrate the topography change into a 360 vanishing edge pool. The home previously had log columns in keeping with a territorial motif. To bring it up to date, concrete cylindrical columns were put in their place, which allowed us to expand the shaded locations throughout the yard in an updated way, as seen by the new retractable canvas shade structures. Constructed by Mike Rowland, you can see how well he pulled off the projects precise detailing of Bianchi's Design. Note the cantilevered concrete steps, the slot of fire in the midst of the spa, the stair treads that don't quite touch the adjacent walls, and the columns that float just above the pool water.
