Also included in this kitchen are a sink, waste basket pullout, double gas burner, kegerator cabinet, under counter refrigeration, and even a warming drawer. The appliances are by Lynx. A wall of glass cabinetry enhances the existing windows and pleasantly expands the sense of openness in the space. Taj Mahal quartzite blends gracefully with the cabinet finishes. Cream-tone, herringbone tiles are custom-cut into different patterns to create a sense of visual movement as the eyes move across the room. An elegant, marble-top island paired with sumptuous, leather-covered stools, not only offers extra counterspace, but also an ideal gathering place for loved ones to enjoy. This unforgettable kitchen gem shines even brighter with the addition of glass cabinets, designed to display the client’s collection of Portmeirion china. Careful consideration was given to the selection of stone for the countertops, as well as the color of paint for the cabinets, to highlight this inspiring collection. Breakfast room A thoughtfully blended mix of furniture styles introduces a splash of European charm to this Hamptons-style kitchen, with French, cane-back chairs providing a sense of airy elegance and delight. A performance velvet adorns the banquette, which is piled high with lush cushions for optimal comfort while lounging in the room. Another layer of texture is achieved with a wool area rug that defines and accentuates this gorgeous breakfast nook with sprawling views of the outdoors. Finishing features include drapery fabric and Brunschwig and Fils Bird and Thistle paper, whose natural, botanic pattern combines with the beautiful vistas of the backyard to inspire a sense of being in a botanical, outdoor wonderland.

This lovely white home office optimizes natural daylight. The new, enlarged window with transom lights above mirrors the shape of the kitchen window in the room next door, so that the exterior facade has a harmonious symmetry. The built-in desk and built-in corner shelving contain ample storage space for office sundries, and the custom fabric covered bulletin board offers display space for personal memorabilia. A white Aeron chair gives this traditional room a note of modern style. For this project WKD was asked to design a new kitchen, and new millwork in the adjacent family room, creating more of a kitchen lounge. They were also asked to find space for a much needed walk-in pantry, reconfigure a home office and create a mudroom. By moving walls and reorienting doors, spaces were reconfigured to provide more storage and a more welcoming atmosphere. A feature of this kitchen remodel was the unusual combination of a glass counter top for dining, which meets the granite of the island. Bright and roomy, the floor plan includes 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a large vaulted great room, a second story loft with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, a first floor master suite, and a flexible “away room”. Every square inch of this home was optimized in the design stage for flexible spaces with convenient traffic flow, and excellent storage - all within a modest footprint. The generous covered outdoor areas extend the living spaces year-round and provide geometric grace to a classic gable roof.

Piedra Toro is a 8,800 sf, 5-bedroom, 5-bath, spec home commissioned by a longtime collaborating general contractor who wanted a well-designed, contemporary home that could appeal to a wide range of people within a specific market of luxury home buyers. The house is organized to optimize the site’s landscape and scenic views while providing maximum privacy. The open and airy floor plan connects inside to outside by creating lines of sight from the living space to both the eastern-facing garden and western negative-edge pool. The more private bedroom suites are located upstairs, away from the public area, and each bedroom boasts its own bathroom and walk-in closet. Materials such as limestone, fiber-cement panels and stucco allow the house to blend with the surrounding landscape while maintaining a distinct modern living ambience on the interior.

This luxurious kitchen remodel by our Lafayette studio is a masterpiece of modern design. The beautiful and functional space boasts sleek and stylish custom cabinetry, high-end appliances, and luxurious finishes. The island provides ample space for meal prep and entertaining. We also added plenty of storage space to optimize functionality. With its luxurious blend of form and function, this kitchen is a fabulous place for cooking and entertaining.

We updated this 1907 two-story family home for re-sale. We added modern design elements and amenities while retaining the home’s original charm in the layout and key details. The aim was to optimize the value of the property for a prospective buyer, within a reasonable budget. New French doors from kitchen and a rear bedroom open out to a new bi-level deck that allows good sight lines, functional outdoor living space, and easy access to a garden full of mature fruit trees. French doors from an upstairs bedroom open out to a private high deck overlooking the garden. The garage has been converted to a family room that opens to the garden. The bathrooms and kitchen were remodeled the kitchen with simple, light, classic materials and contemporary lighting fixtures. New windows and skylights flood the spaces with light. Stained wood windows and doors at the kitchen pick up on the original stained wood of the other living spaces. New redwood picture molding was created for the living room where traces in the plaster suggested that picture molding has originally been. A sweet corner window seat at the living room was restored. At a downstairs bedroom we created a new plate rail and other redwood trim matching the original at the dining room. The original dining room hutch and woodwork were restored and a new mantel built for the fireplace. We built deep shelves into space carved out of the attic next to upstairs bedrooms and added other built-ins for character and usefulness. Storage was created in nooks throughout the house. A small room off the kitchen was set up for efficient laundry and pantry space. We provided the future owner of the house with plans showing design possibilities for expanding the house and creating a master suite with upstairs roof dormers and a small addition downstairs.
