Raft Island Kitchen Redesign & Remodel Project Overview Located in the beautiful Puget Sound this project began with functionality in mind. The original kitchen was built custom for a very tall person, The custom countertops were not functional for the busy family that purchased the home. The new design has clean lines with elements of nature . The custom oak cabinets were locally made. The stain is a custom blend. The reclaimed island was made from local material. ..the floating shelves and beams are also reclaimed lumber. The island counter top and hood is NEOLITH in Iron Copper , a durable porcelain counter top material The counter tops along the perimeter of the kitchen is Lapitec. The renovation of a mid century cottage on the lake, now serves as a guest house. The renovation preserved the original architectural elements such as the ceiling and original stone fireplace to preserve the character, personality and history and provide the inspiration and canvas to which everything else would be added. To prevent the space from feeling dark & too rustic, the lines were kept clean, the furnishings modern and the use of saturated color was strategically placed throughout.

Originally a fireplace, we remodeled the kitchen to include an inset bar in rich macassar ebony and lined Flavor Paper’s Monaco gold foil wallpaper. The bar includes a mini fridge and wine refrigerator for easy access to beverages.

The tile in the kids' bath is all new, designed to look original to the 1936 home. The tile is from B&W Tile in Los Angeles.

The new design expanded the footprint of the home to 1,271 square feet for the first level and 1,156 for the new second level. A new entry with a quarter turn stair leads you into the original living space. The old guest bedroom that was once accessed through the dining room is now connected to the front living space by pocket doors.
