Located in the Sky Lofts building in Tribeca (once home to the most expensive apartment sale in NYC), our clients were ready to renovate and modernize their centerpiece kitchen. Due to the unique nature of loft renovations (high ceilings, columns, creative and skillful lighting applications, among other factors), Gallery’s expertise in loft spaces was vital to our clients. In addition to the loft particularities, it’s important in a kitchen of this size to ensure that all the elements have been laid out with purpose from a functional perspective and a design perspective. CENTERPIECE KITCHEN Color was an important design element in this kitchen. This is evident in the striking blues and grays of the marble countertops and backsplash, as well as the dark navy hue of the built-in cabinets. White lower cabinets create two-tone contrast, while glass cabinets and a long wood open shelf make the most of the available height. The built-in cabinets also include built-in appliances: an espresso maker, coffee machine, two side-by-side wine fridges, and even an integrated refrigerator paneled to match the cabinetry for an essentially seamless look. The cabinets are all push-to-open, eliminating knobs to complete the overall sleek, contemporary style. The marble backsplash is also book-matched, meaning the slabs of stone have been cut and polished to match each other, creating a mirroring effect that further contributes to the cohesive, contemporary aesthetic of this apartment. BUILDING CONSIDERATIONS Functional factors are another vital component to New York City apartment building renovations. In this particular project, we had to consider how to get large slabs of stone into the loft without having to cut them up. When working with slabs, and especially when the design is as sleek and contemporary as this one, it’s vital to eliminate seams as much as possible. Elevators and stairs are often not large enough to handle large slabs of stone, which means there are only two other options: cutting the stone and putting it back together on site (but this will create a seam, so it’s not always an option) or using a crane to bring it in through a window. Higher-end buildings tend to have more restrictions and management companies with stricter renovation guidelines – with good reason. A good relationship with the super and staff of the building is absolutely essential; effective communication with everyone involved will result in an ideal outcome for all parties. ARTFUL LOGISTICS Seemingly minor elements such as apartment protections are also just as crucial. While every renovation will require protections in hallways, common spaces, zip walls, and perhaps the floors, those protections are doubled when renovating in an apartment that’s currently occupied. In the case of this particular client, who owned a great deal of valuable artwork in addition to their furniture and other belongings, Gallery exacted their own form of art when putting the protections in place and maneuvering around them with skill. In the main house, we did the kitchen and butler pantry, living area and bar, laundry room; master bathroom and master closet, three bathrooms. In the guest house, we did the kitchen and bar; laundry; guest bath and master bath. All LEICHT. This home was built in 1906, and the homeowner had to deal with a flood, due to faulty plumbing. I followed the restoration crew, to bring this damaged kitchen back to life. This lovely, updated kitchen, is the outcome of our team, working hard, through all the Covid protocols, many challenges popped up, due supply chain issues, yet we were still able able to redesign and rebuild this kitchen to fit with the personality, and stately era of the home.

Emma Gerancher from Reico Kitchen & Bath in Charlottesville, VA, partnered with Luis Dorta of LED Construction to design a transitional kitchen featuring Masterpiece cabinetry. The kitchen includes the Barton door style in a Cottage finish for the perimeter and a custom Sherwin-Williams Mount Etna painted finish for the island. The space also features MSI W Calacatta Safyra countertops, along with a Frigidaire canopy hood and microwave. The client shared, “Gutting our old kitchen to reconfigure the space for better flow, workspace, and storage was a challenge. Emma listened to my needs and offered helpful tips and options, which made the process work. The layout followed the workflow, and my habits and style guided the final details. Reico gave me the options and confidence to trust the process, and the outcome is seamless and beautiful.” Emma explained, “This kitchen is one of my favorites. The homeowners wanted to replace the peninsula with a custom painted island in Sherwin-Williams Mount Etna, which paired well with the Cottage perimeter cabinets, Calacatta Safyra countertops, sea glass backsplash, and honey bronze hardware. 2011 NARI CAPITAL COTY MERIT AWARD WINNER This couple lived in their colonial home in Burke, Virginia, for more than 20 years. Now that their children were grown and gone, it was time for them to pay more attention to their home. First on their list was to renovate their master bathroom. Tight and dysfunctional is how they described the existing space. The homeowners always dreamed of having a whirlpool, a large steam shower and a private toilet area. Importantly, they wanted to use the latest products and materials to bring the bathroom into the 21st Century. Starting with exotic granite and porcelain tile from floor to ceiling, the new design does just that. Then, a highly sophisticated steam shower using granite benches, a heavy glass enclosure, chrome faucets and a rain shower head was installed. Modern body spray heads are embedded in the wall tiles. The shower is complemented by a bubble, jetted whirlpool tub with granite surrounds. A modern double vanity with vessel sinks, a granite countertop, high end cabinets and stylish faucets rest along one wall. Custom-built, recessed mirrored medicine cabinets provide storage for necessities. In the end, the homeowners are thrilled with the outcome and never imagined that their old and dark looking small bath could ever be transformed into such beautiful bathroom.

Our clients came to us after purchasing their new home, wanting to update a few things to make it “theirs.” They wanted to refresh the kitchen by simply changing the backsplash and installing a new chandelier. Our clients picked out super cool allen + roth Imperial City Subway tile backsplash that really changed the entire look of the kitchen. Three simple Tamill clear with black drizzle 7” glass pendants were hung above the kitchen island, where there was once a glitzy chandelier. They also opted for a gas stove, so, we removed the existing electric cooktop and installed a gas stove instead. A metallic gray Blanco Valea Silgranit low-divide undermount sink replaced the existing stainless sink, and we installed an Addison Arctic stainless kitchen faucet to finish it off. These simple changes made a huge difference in the appearance of this kitchen. Our clients are so pleased with the outcome. The clients moved into a new home and purchased furniture, but it all felt too white and drab for them. They wanted color and pattern to make the home feel more warm and comfortable. The wall for the TV had only a simple fireplace and they wanted a design that would make the fireplace feel more substantial with room to add color and accessories. Our design added increased the width of the fireplace, added stacked stone, storage cabinetry, and floating shelves atop of dark blue wood backing. The outcome enhanced the whole living space.

We helped our clients to create a practical, modern and beautiful family home in Putney, South West London. The Brief The brief from our clients was to amalgamate an annex and original house building to create one practical family home. It was important the annex did not feel like an add-on, but rather as part of the original property. The Solution The design solution is to feature a series of new openings between the two buildings to provide subtle connections and routes between spaces throughout the house. The whole footprint was utilised and spaces were carefully arranged to maximise light and provide a more functional family home. Glass doors with steel frames were used in the hallway to open up sight-lines to the large rear garden and provide flexibility to the use of the space. The dining room features a hidden door into a secret lounge space that plays on the idea of there previously being a sense of separation. The Kitchen was made bespoke by Higham Furniture, a supplier we have worked with many times before and who are in our supplier directory. All the original external walls and ground floor construction have been insulated to exceed building regulation standards, creating a highly sustainable building. This is great for our clients carbon footprint and for keeping their running costs low. Externally, corner glazed full height sliding doors were added to provide a seamless transition between the lounge and garden. At roof level, a series of dormers were added to the master suite that help draw breathtaking views towards the London skyline. The rear garden was landscaped by Patios, Pots and Pergolas. The Result We are delighted with the outcome, which is a sustainable and functional single family home that responds well to our clients brief.

A lower level bar and entertaining area was added, by repurposing the old kitchen cabinets, adding some 100 year old barn wood, installing a custom poured epoxy counterop and decorative accents, the entertaining area was the favorite room in the new renovation - adding a ton of living/entertaining space to this home! A bold orange was chosen for the wall color, and the walls were left textured. A new drop ceiling was installed, and Super Hero artwork makes a bold statement in the space. {Featured Story} Spring, 2015 – This condo was purchased from the estate of the new owner’s parents and refurbished with trendy new touches. There were no close comparables in the Farmington neighborhood with within walking distance to the urban downtown area, so the approach for selling was to create an entirely new set of comparables when the new owner was found. On the market for just days, the renovation, marketing and finishing touches made this a highly sought after, and quick to sell property at top dollar, establishing a new trend in the neighborhood. {Our Process for this Featured Property}: Assessed the initial investment condo, offered suggestions for rehab and renovation. Assisted with Color Theory through color selection and process (no beige in this condo!). Helped select floor and counter materials, tile selection and features in the kitchen and bath. Final staging of the property was done with antiques and housewares, and created a cozy and lived in feel. As a final touch, a party was thrown when the property was completed to invite in friends and family, as well as an open house with freshly baking chocolate chip cookies to make the prospective buyers feel right at home! {Outcome} This property sold in days as a cash sale, at a higher price than anything in the neighborhood – and closed quickly. Both the seller and buyer were thrilled with this transaction!
