I did a complete new planting design for this project which is a single family home in the suburbs of Towson. The garden is 1/3 acre in size. Most of the existing plants, including many non-native ground covers, like English Ivy, shrubs, and trees, were removed in order to bring in the sunlight for pollinators and remove interference with the power lines. I designed and installed a mostly native plant garden that is designed to be beautiful to view with many flowers blooming all season long and varied textures and movement with ornamental grasses and provides habitat and food for pollinators, like butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, and for songbirds. Nearly 100 trees, nearly 100 shrubs, and 1,000 perennials and grasses were installed. I continue to oversee the maintenance of this garden.

This home in the heart of Key West, Florida, the southernmost point of the United States, was under construction when J Design Group was selected as the head interior designer to manage and oversee the project to the client’s needs and taste. The very sought-after area, named Casa Marina, is highly desired and right on the dividing line of the historic neighborhood of Key West. The client who was then still living in Georgia, has now permanently moved into this newly-designed beautiful, relaxing, modern and tropical home.

In collaboration with custom builder Brian Koehler, who has a vast history of overseeing numerous fire restoration projects, Amanda and Corey Marsh were able to rebuild the interior of their home, maintaining some of the original personality while simultaneously incorporating additional elements that have made this home not only a showcase, but also a place where family and friends can comfortably gather.

We love when our clients trust us enough to do a second project for them. In the case of this couple looking for a NYC Pied-a-Terre – this was our 4th! After designing their homes in Bernardsville, NJ and San Diego, CA and a home for their daughter in Orange County, CA, we were called up for duty on the search for a NYC apartment which would accommodate this couple with room enough for their four children as well!
What we cherish most about working with clients is the trust that develops over time. In this case, not only were we asked to come on board for design and project coordination, but we also helped with the actual apartment selection decision between locations in TriBeCa, Upper West Side and the West Village. The TriBeCa building didn’t have enough services in the building; the Upper West Side neighborhood was too busy and impersonal; and, the West Village apartment was just right.
Our work on this apartment was to oversee the design and build-out of the combination of a 3,000 square foot 3-bedroom unit with a 1,000 square foot 1-bedroom unit. We reorganized the space to accommodate this family of 6. The living room in the 1 bedroom became the media room; the kitchen became a bar; and the bedroom became a guest suite.
The most amazing feature of this apartment are its views – uptown to the Empire State Building, downtown to the Statue of Liberty and west for the most vibrant sunsets. We opened up the space to create view lines through the apartment all the way back into the home office.
Customizing New York City apartments takes creativity and patience. In order to install recessed lighting, Ray devised a floating ceiling situated below the existing concrete ceiling to accept the wiring and housing.
In the design of the space, we wanted to create a flow and continuity between the public spaces. To do this, we designed walnut panels which run from the center hall through the media room into the office and on to the sitting room. The richness of the wood helps ground the space and draws your eye to the lightness of the gorgeous views. For additional light capture, we designed a 9 foot by 10 foot metal and mirror wall treatment in the living room. The purpose is to catch the light and reflect it back into the living space creating expansiveness and brightness.
Adding unique and meaningful art pieces is the critical final stage of design. For the master bedroom, we commissioned Ira Lohan, a Santa Fe, NM artist we know, to create a totem with glass feathers. This piece was inspired by folklore from his Native American roots which says home is defined by where an eagle’s feathers land. Ira drove this piece across the country and delivered and installed it himself!!

To fully enjoy the winter holidays, with all the snow and cold, was the basis for our client’s decision to maintain their Chicago home when they were transferred to the warm and sunny west coast. A trusted caretaker was put in place to oversee and maintain their property; however, even excellent planning sometimes runs off-track.
In the midst of winter the caretaker left on a well-planned vacation. The homeowner’s were apprised of dates and, without a worry, everyone went on about their daily routines. That is, until the caretaker returned and found the home in such utter devastation, he could not believe what had happened in such a short amount of time.
The ill-timed vacation, planned during what became an extremely cold timeframe, was the home’s undoing. With the heat in the home turned slightly lower, to accommodate the emptiness, paired with the below zero temperatures, the hot water pipe in the main floor Sunroom froze and burst. The gushing, steaming water, unchecked, moved in so many directions, it is difficult to comprehend.
As the water soaked through the Sunroom flooring to the walk-out Lower Level Area below, ice blocks were freezing before the water reached the ground; Ice blocks so thick only time and warmer temperatures were able to thaw. Since the heating systems were unaffected, the heat, paired with the steaming moisture, raised the humidity levels in the entire home; what wasn’t wet ultimately became mold covered.
The humidity in the home was raised to such a level that window and door seals were compromised and condensation clouded most of the interior glass panes. The Kitchen wood flooring, saturated with water, buckled, causing the cabinets to lift and the granite to crack.
The ceiling in the lower level Bar Area fell as the water flooded both the Bar and the adjoining Billiards Room, wreaking havoc on cabinetry, carpet, artwork, etc.
After the insurance estimation determined the home was salvageable, the design phase began in earnest headed by LaMantia’s James Campbell, CKD and aided by Katie Suva, CKD, CBD as the guides. After a very long march towards recovery, the home is now back to the pristine beauty it once was.

Everybody dreams of living in a cozy house that has everything they need. Nothing beats the elegance of a custom-built new home. There are probably a dozen things about your current home that you would like to alter, but the size or design may make those changes impossible. Therefore, the best way to make your dream a reality is to find a trustworthy general contractor.
Although purchasing an existing home may bring you closer to your ideal home, you may still need to make some adjustments and compromises. If you’re looking for some ideas for your new home in Long Island, be sure to look through some of our most recent designs to get an idea of how it might turn out.
Planning, management, scheduling, and quality assurance
Planning every detail of your new home with you is something we would love to do. We plan the entire construction within your budget and look for ways to secure a new home for you that fits your vision while providing the best value for money.
We will collaborate with you and our expert designers to create a schedule that is both realistic and convenient. From the initial installation of the floorboards to the final installation of the modular additions, we will oversee every stage of the construction process.
Most importantly, we promise strict quality control at every stage of the procedure, ensuring that your home is truly perfect.

A newly built 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath home was in need of a refreshing design. As a second home for our clients, a newly retired couple, we wanted to make this space as relaxing as possible. Finding inspiration from elements of nature, we were able to incorporate a sunset color palette in the living area, using gorgeous hues of orange, burgundy, and red with a splash of neutrals—all highlighted in the beautiful drapery. The bedrooms showcase tranquil color schemes of navy, blue, and gray, a complementary contrast to the warmer hues used throughout the rest of the home.
Our team collaborated with many artisans to create custom furniture, cabinetry, lighting, wall finishes and artwork as well as utilizing exclusive furniture & fabric vendors. The use of such artisanal pieces not only create a one-of-a-kind look and feel, but all come together to create an artistic design throughout the whole space.
Another unique element of this space is the amazing 400 SF terrace, which oversees the Highline and the meticulous landscaping. The clients love to entertain, therefore, providing functional and comfortable custom outdoor furniture selections was critical. Finding fun fabrics to tie in the blues of the indoor space, provided a seamless transition. The sculptural element of the outdoors created a mini MOMA on the terrace and brought a lot of interest to the space though the installations of STORM KING artist, Joel Perlman.

Stone and siding combine with a shed dormer, creating a Craftsman look to this exterior. This three-bedroom design is perfect for growing families, with large, open living spaces, and many storage options found throughout. From the side-entry, oversized garage with extra storage space and shelves, to the built-in shelves and coat closet off the rear hall, families will have plenty of options to keep their home clutter-free and organized.
The gourmet kitchen features a large island and is open to the dining room, which includes a convenient e-space that will be great for mom to oversee homework while getting dinner on the table. The luxurious master suite offers a tray ceiling in the bedroom, and dual walk-in closets that lead the way to the well-appointed master bath with dual sinks and a large tub. The outdoor living space abounds with a rear porch that leads to a large screen porch with fireplace and a patio with a spa. A large bonus space adds even more flexibility to this plan.
