Maintaining the cabin’s 19th-century charm was the easy part for the Donelsons, who are Lewis and Clark period re-enactors. Jan Paul often plays Captain Meriwether Lewis with a group called the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles. The Donelsons brought their furniture from their previous home in St. Louis to the cabin. “It seems like everything we had prior to moving here fits, as if we’d been collecting things all those years just to put it in this cabin,” Jan Paul says. In the living room, he displays a replica of Lewis’s captain’s uniform, which he wears during re-enactments. There’s also a hand-carved paddle he uses on the Missouri and Columbia Rivers and a feather quill used for journal writing during the re-enactments. “Each item has a story of its own and a memory to go with it,” Jan Paul says. The items look perfectly at home in the cabin.
The Donelsons are passionate about their cabin and about its importance as a living piece of history. “This place whispers to me every day, of where we have come from,” Jan Paul says. “Not everyone who crosses our threshold feels the connection, but for those who appreciate the sense of place, time and heritage our forefathers gave us, they find the cabin a comfort. They feel that warm embrace of romance from our heritage.”

In this young boy’s bedroom the double bunks add an extra bed without taking up floor space.
Cheryl designed this bedroom in a colour palette of blues and lime green. Custom made paddling oars on the ceiling, a hanging chair, cute little custom made house shelving, striped wall paper below dado rails and stick on decals gives the space character.
Creating layers by repeating patterns and colours adds depth and interest.
Cheryl likes to create children’s bedrooms that are not too themed or age sensitive so that the little ones can grow into their rooms without one having to make too many changes later as they get older. Removing a few items and adding a few bits and pieces can transform this bedroom for a seven year old boy into a teenager’s room quite easily.

Space-saving Stairs have been used widely in Europe for many years and now have become quite popular in the US with the rise of the Tiny House movement. A further boost has been given to the Space-saving staircase with many of the major building codes in the US allowing them.
Here's the stair we designed and built for a client who wanted a super-slim, non-intrusive way to access their loft. It's built at the code maximum pitch of 70 degrees and has a 102" overall rise. The build code defines an alternating-tread stair as "A device that has a series of steps between 50 and 70 degrees from level... in an alternating manner so that the user does not have both feet on the same level at the same time." So just think with me; That's how we normally climb stairs isn't it? When we climb a conventional stair, we use half of the step at a time. So the idea of an alternating-tread stair is to save a huge amount of floor space by placing the treads in the position where we would normally place our foot as we climb the staircase. This is a brilliant solution for accessing an upper level when space in tight. Please contact Clyde if you want any type of custom stairs. 520-895-2060 or 916-991-9700

Located in the British Properties of West Vancouver the garden of this unique property was designed to reflect the traditional character of the home and community while integrating a range of amenities for the modern-day family. The property is backed into a forested parkland with access to the mountain trails and nature while exposed on the south with sunny views of the city and water. The feeling as you approach the home is tranquil and natural, the sound of water rushing down the waterfall in the courtyard is fresh and soothing. Lush displays of woodland plants and specimen trees blend the urban and native environments. In the rear garden, an expansive Brazilian hardwood deck floats above the lower patio and pool deck. The swimming pool sits parallel to the house, creating a spectacular mirror to the sky and surrounding foliage. Lawn areas soften the edges of the patio and hot tub to enjoy this vibrant outdoor space. The versatile garden is organic but organized and creates opportunities for play and relaxation, with intimate outdoor rooms that flow together but function independently as well.

These light, naturally bleached reclaimed wood box beams prove that antique character does not always mean dark and rustic. Running across the vaulted ceiling of this bright coastal entryway, their pale silvery-gray tones and softly weathered texture feel entirely at home in a space defined by white walls, light flooring, and beach house warmth. Sourced from 19th and early 20th century structures, these box beams carry a naturally aged patina that has mellowed beautifully over a century of use. Through our process of denailing, kiln drying, and precision milling, Manomin Resawn Timbers prepares these antique timbers for any setting, from deep rustic interiors to light and airy coastal homes like this one.
Whether you are a homebuilder, a home remodeling contractor, or a homeowner looking to add light weathered reclaimed wood box beams to a coastal or transitional space, Manomin Resawn Timbers has been helping people discover the antique charm of reclaimed wood since 2002. We ship nationwide and are happy to help you find the right pieces from anywhere in the country. Visit our showroom in Hugo, MN or reach out to us with a call or a message to get started.

Harmonized on the edge of a tidal marsh of Bohicket Creek on Johns Island, a house was built for indoor-outdoor living. Constructed within a tight budget, architectural poetics were sought through integrated design, with the use of kebony shiplap siding, corrugated metal, and exposed wood rafters. The sensitive landscape drove a design concept that floats above the forest floor and blends in with the habitat of the marsh edge. There was consideration for detail and simple construction methods, through the use of modern interior and exterior trim with minimal details. The raw, simple construction methods and materials were used to infuse the spirit of boat docks and agricultural structures of Johns Island, SC with the use of heavy timber wood piles and knotty pine siding and rain screen. The interior details are simple and dramatic with a waterfall island anchoring the open floor plan and book matched birch veneer wood doors throughout.
