In this art-forward serene sanctuary, tranquility seamlessly blends with modernity. Elements of metal, stone, wood, and leather are thoughtfully layered against a neutral backdrop of whites, creams and neutrals. This private studio, built in collaboration with producer, engineer, and pianist Ian Miller, is a fully custom creative space designed around his workflow and artistic process. The project blended NILES’ technical execution with Ian’s hands-on finishing work, resulting in a studio where every corner has intention and every system supports a seamless, plug-and-play workflow. The structure began as a barn-style two-car garage with a second floor. After exploring several layouts and engineering options, we landed on a design that leveraged the high ceilings and existing footprint to create a dynamic and spacious acoustic environment. Generous daylight from surrounding windows connects the interior to the outdoors, while layered textures, warm tones, and custom finishes create a grounded yet inspiring atmosphere. The Control Room is fully isolated from the rest of the building with sound-reducing wall systems, a full soft-ceiling bass trap, tuned corner traps, treatment throughout, and full-lite doors for controlled transmission and visibility. Though modest in size, it delivers accurate monitoring and integrates smoothly with the larger live environment. Roasted Bean Studio was built to support any direction Ian pursues—from producing to mixing to live performance. The space provides the sonic palette and creative flexibility needed for a wide range of projects, offering a visually inspiring and acoustically reliable environment that empowers his work every day.

This state-of-the-art media room was designed to deliver a world-class cinematic experience while preserving the character of the home. Discreetly integrated speakers, a DCI-compliant video wall, and carefully tailored acoustics ensured uncompromising performance, while human-centric lighting and Global Wave’s Wave of Wellness app brought versatility for entertainment, productivity, and relaxation. The result was a transformative space that not only exceeded client expectations but also set a new benchmark for design and innovation in residential technology.

This perspective highlights the seamless integration of a high-end culinary workspace within a classic Craftsman aesthetic. The expansive kitchen island, featuring a granite countertop with a built-in range, serves as the centerpiece of the room, perfectly positioned under a custom-framed art glass chandelier. This architectural light fixture acts as a jewelry piece for the kitchen, echoing the geometric precision found in traditional Mission-style design while casting a warm, ambient glow across the entire space. The view showcases the impressive depth of the custom-stained cabinetry, which extends to the ceiling with elegant crown molding. To the right, professional-grade stainless steel appliances, including double wall ovens, are sleekly integrated into the woodwork, offering a modern contrast to the rustic textures of the red brick backsplash and hexagonal tiled flooring. The inclusion of a light sage green pantry door adds a subtle pop of color, softening the rich wood tones and bringing a fresh, nature-inspired element to the palette. Every architectural choice, from the recessed lighting to the thoughtfully placed casement window over the sink, emphasizes a balance of practicality and style. The layout is designed for effortless flow, providing ample prep space on the island while keeping essential tools and high-performance appliances within easy reach. This kitchen successfully creates a sophisticated yet homey environment that is ideal for both quiet family meals and large-scale entertaining.

Vision for Renewal: Embracing Modernity While Honoring History Built in the heart of a community renowned for its dedication to Mid-Century Modern architecture, this home has stood the test of time. Its original design, characterized by open spaces, flat planes, and vast use of single-paned glass, aimed to merge indoor and outdoor living. However, decades had taken their toll. The home featured inefficient materials and outdated layouts that no longer met the needs of modern homeownership. The renovation aimed to preserve the home’s unique architectural features but update its functionality for modern living. The homeowner, Stacy Kosis of Nook Design Collective, is a seasoned designer with over 19 years in the industry. She deeply appreciates Mid-Century Modern aesthetics and served as Director of Design with a Colorado custom home builder before branching out on her own two years ago. Kosis embarked on this ambitious project to breathe new life into a structure many saw beyond repair. The complete gut renovation was done in 8 months which is a huge testament to the Kosis’ skill and knowledge in design and construction. Her background experience and knowledge of NanaWall systems reliability and performance in previous projects were instrumental in her approach.
