The narrow, small space in this Winnipeg bathroom was one of the projects biggest interior design challenges. Every element including fixtures, handles, color palette and flooring were chosen to accentuate the length of the bathroom.
A narrow, elongated shower was designed so there was no need for a glass shower door. Custom built niches for shampoos and soaps, as well as a bench were installed. A unique channel drain system was designed it was all surrounded by specially selected tiles in the earth tone color palette.
The end wall was constructed to allow for built in open shelving for storage and esthetic appeal.
Cabinets were custom built for the narrow space and long handle pulls were chose to perpetuate the overall design.

When designing a landscape, Joshua Kien, owner of JK Designs in Chicago, IL, follows three principles: use height differentials to create a layered look, evoke the four seasons with a rotation of blooms, and plan for long-term growth periods. In this urban home in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood, Kien planted 'Knock Out' roses, hydrangea and weigela for perpetual blooming spring, summer, and fall and boxwood for a lush green in winter

Kitchen, bathroom and partial renovation of a residence. Design intent was to create a design complimentary to the existing mid century house while introducing hints and love of Japanese lifestyle.

A 43” diameter heritage pecan guided the plan of this neighborhood-scaled, modestly-priced, single-story, L-shaped house. In Austin’s seemingly perpetual drought, the goal was to create a symbiotic relationship between house and tree: to complement, not combat each other. The roof’s east/west parallel ridges create a valley directly across from the base, where water is collected at a grate, nourishing the tree. The roof also maximizes south facing surfaces, elevated at 15 degrees for future solar collection. The open, public spaces of the home maximize the north-south light. The private zone of the bedrooms and bathrooms include a generous gallery; its angled walls and large sliding doors are faceted about the tree. The pecan becomes a central focus for indoor and outdoor living, participating in the house in both plan and section. The design welcomes and nurtures the tree as integral to its success. The Perpetual Collection is the beautifully-designed constant in your life. Indoors or outdoors, amidst a crisp garden or on a city rooftop, these hand-made, lightweight concrete pieces suit every occasion. The designer’s innovative approach to soften the appearance of concrete with natural sands and hemp-like grass creates a sophisticated, personalized aesthetic where no two tables are the same. Now available in our new Ivory White color.

Portola Valley has a heritage of horse ranching among pristine native woodland / grassland habitats. This situation gave rise to an architectural expression that perpetuates this culture, while fostering a responsible cohabitation of the land.
With enough time on site, we were able to trace the game paths that traversed the site from East to West. These daily and seasonal routes connected the site to the bigger landscape of Canyon and its eventual merge with the Portola Valley. We situated all the habitable structures on one horizontal contour that threaded through four Northern California mature oak species on the steeply sloping site. This enabled the stables and pasture to inhabit the grassland meadow below protecting the slope, and restoring the grasslands to their native splendor.

Sunny, airy and carefree, the dining room is the epitome of a breezy summer’s day. A large open display unit filled with handpicked curios stimulates visual interest while adding cheer to the decor scheme. “We perpetuated the living room aesthetic with a base palette of white, while cutting the monotony with bright yellows and blues. We were particular about maintaining a European sensibility by way of colour, material and texture. We used royal blues, whites, greys and wines to curate a colour spectrum reminiscent of Europe. We complemented these hues with muted fabrics and subtle patterns, and plenty of pine wood.

The Ackerman-Dater House was built in 1745 and is the recipient of the prestigious State of New Jersey Historic Preservation Award. Ensuing years had taken their toll on the house and major intervention was needed when the owners engaged Morpurgo Architects to restore their home. Our collaboration has protected and preserved this house, perpetuating its continued use.
Today, the Ackerman-Dater House is a historic residence that incorporates various contextual building periods, each in harmony with the original, producing a cohesive whole. With the sensitively-placed addition of a new wing, compatible with the style of the existing architecture, we enhanced the Ackerman-Dater House and ensured that it would meet the functional needs of a family living in current times.
Preservation of the Ackerman-Dater House maintains the character and history of our mutual past, benefiting the entire community. For our exceptional restoration, client, contractor and Morpurgo Architects were presented with the NJ State and the Bergen County Historic Preservation Awards.
