I had been dreaming about built in bunk beds for my children and our guests. After showing a picture to a gifted craftsman, he built these for our family. I love the shiplap and the X railings, the built in cubbies for guests' bags, personal lights for each bunk, contrast of dark stain and white paint, and the storage area under the ladder. The shelves with outlets are perfect for placing books, charging phones, and placing other important items. I wouldn't change a single thing about this space. It's absolutely perfect! The star of this great room is the fireplace wall. In keeping with the European Country style of this home but thoughtfully updating the look by introducing the built in shelves within the wall. The walnut shelves and mantle create a warmth in this space. The shelves have integrated led light strips to add ambiance. Behind the shelves a beautiful, slightly metallic wallpaper was applied to create depth and interest, especially when lights are on. The tapered upper where the tv resides mimics the kitchen hood vent at the opposite end of the open room. The gas fireplace has glassrocks within to update the look. The stone work is Arizona Tile 3d stacked stone. This space was created with the owner in mind. Creating spaces where character shines through and personal items can be playfully displayed.

The master vanity of Engineered Quartz is elegant and durable, large enough to display personal items and still drops down to a seated vanity. The Newport Brass chrome faucet is classic and clean, complimenting the Schaub and Company Empire Hardware cabinet pulls and knobs. The full length mirror was created with a 1" bevel to finish with a slight touch toward traditional design

She is a full-time Mother, world traveler and committed volunteer. Rarely coming up for air, she desperately needed a calm refuge as her home office. Katherine found a beautiful, antique Fica table from Argentina to serve as her desk. Perfect for computer, desk accessories and topped off with a decidedly modern task light. Katherine paired it with an early American cupboard to display personal items as well as store unsightly office supplies behind its bottom doors. Inspiration for a mid-century modern kitchen remodel in Los Angeles

This stunning 4,500 sq/ft one-level penthouse was purchased as a retirement home for a young at heart couple who enjoys featuring their art with the backdrop of the beautiful city skyline. The kitchen and bathrooms were personalized with this client’s taste of clean and modern surfaces, while a third bedroom was converted into a full-size walk-in closet for wardrobe items to be clearly displayed. DOWNLOAD NOW This unit, located in a 4-flat owned by TKS Owners Jeff and Susan Klimala, was remodeled as their personal pied-à-terre, and doubles as an Airbnb property when they are not using it. Jeff and Susan were drawn to the location of the building, a vibrant Chicago neighborhood, 4 blocks from Wrigley Field, as well as to the vintage charm of the 1890’s building. The entire 2 bed, 2 bath unit was renovated and furnished, including the kitchen, with a specific Parisian vibe in mind. Although the location and vintage charm were all there, the building was not in ideal shape -- the mechanicals -- from HVAC, to electrical, plumbing, to needed structural updates, peeling plaster, out of level floors, the list was long. Susan and Jeff drew on their expertise to update the issues behind the walls while also preserving much of the original charm that attracted them to the building in the first place -- heart pine floors, vintage mouldings, pocket doors and transoms. Because this unit was going to be primarily used as an Airbnb, the Klimalas wanted to make it beautiful, maintain the character of the building, while also specifying materials that would last and wouldn’t break the budget. Susan enjoyed the hunt of specifying these items and still coming up with a cohesive creative space that feels a bit French in flavor. Parisian style décor is all about casual elegance and an eclectic mix of old and new. Susan had fun sourcing some more personal pieces of artwork for the space, creating a dramatic black, white and moody green color scheme for the kitchen and highlighting the living room with pieces to showcase the vintage fireplace and pocket doors. The new porch was insulated and incorporated into the overall space. The kitchen remodel was part of a whole house remodel so new quarter sawn oak flooring, a vaulted ceiling, windows and skylights were added. A large calcutta marble topped island takes center stage. It houses a 5’ galley workstation - a sink that provides a convenient spot for prepping, serving, entertaining and clean up. A 36” induction cooktop is located directly across from the island for easy access. Two appliance garages on either side of the cooktop house small appliances that are used on a daily basis. Honeycomb tile by Ann Sacks and open shelving along the cooktop wall add an interesting focal point to the room. Antique mirrored glass faces the storage unit housing dry goods and a beverage center. “I chose details for the space that had a bit of a mid-century vibe that would work well with what was originally a 1950s ranch. Along the way a previous owner added a 2nd floor making it more of a Cape Cod style home, a few eclectic details felt appropriate”, adds Klimala. The wall opposite the cooktop houses a full size fridge, freezer, double oven, coffee machine and microwave. “There is a lot of functionality going on along that wall”, adds Klimala. A small pull out countertop below the coffee machine provides a spot for hot items coming out of the ovens. The rooms creamy cabinetry is accented by quartersawn white oak at the island and wrapped ceiling beam. The golden tones are repeated in the antique brass light fixtures. “This is the second kitchen I’ve had the opportunity to design for myself. My taste has gotten a little less traditional over the years, and although I’m still a traditionalist at heart, I had some fun with this kitchen and took some chances. The kitchen is super functional, easy to keep clean and has lots of storage to tuck things away when I’m done using them. The casual dining room is fabulous and is proving to be a great spot to linger after dinner.
