Chris and Marna believe in Ohana Mau Loa which means “family forever.” As return clients, they knew LiLu could help them build a vacation home in Hawaii that would provide a desirable and comfortable gathering place for four adult children and their spouses and 11 grandchildren. A central common space at the heart of the home with separate living quarters surrounding it helps to accommodate everyone with both shared and personal living spaces. Each has its own personality that showcases playful references to Big Island life. And yet the overall design concept weaves together a love of world travel with traditional tastes. Built with mahogany wood that is a staple of island construction, treasured heirlooms and other personal keepsakes are the perfect complement to make this dream home feel welcoming and familiar. Fabrics, finishes and furnishings were selected with the sea in mind and to accommodate wet swim suits, bare feet, and sandy shoes.

After (shown here): The backyard view of the home is beautiful to look when returning home on the lake. We removed a tree to the right of the bench swing to allow more of the beauty to be seen on both ends of the view and it feels much more bright and sunny already.
Before: The backyard overlooks the lake and a personal dock, but you never would have known anything was behind the trees before we arrived.

Home offices are very personal spaces. While they need to fulfill an important functional role, they are also often filled with meaningful personal items. This office is furnished beautifully with an elegant desk, holds substantial storage, with a backdrop of delicate natural textures in the rug reminiscent of a garden, crisp linen drapes on a brass french return curtain rod, and the beginnings of a gallery wall.

RCID was thrilled to take on the role of project manager for this Elbow Valley Redecorating Project—a collaboration that celebrated creativity, trust, and personalization. For this returning client, we coordinated the full-home painting, added a custom LEGO built-in, and curated a complete furniture package tailored to their lifestyle. This project was a joy from start to finish, as our clients allowed us the creative freedom to reimagine their spaces with fresh color, texture, and form. The result is a home that feels refreshed, balanced, and brimming with character. Projects like this remind us why we love what we do—collaborating with wonderful clients to turn their homes into spaces that truly reflect who they are.

The artisan tradition has never been more alluring. Tracing its visual inspiration to factories of the early 20th century, the Artesso Kitchen Collection by Brizo® is a warmer, more refined take on the industrial aesthetic.
Born out of the spirit of the industrial revolution, Artesso combines inspiration from factories and forged metal to farming tools and inventions of the time. These elements give it the unique ability to be rustic and masculine, while still maintaining a sophisticated unexpected allure.

At RCID, we don’t typically take on commercial projects—but when a returning client invited us to reimagine the lobby of their condo building at 225 25th Ave SW in Calgary, we couldn’t resist the opportunity. In collaboration with Crafted Edge Homes, we set out to bring a warmer, more residential feel to the common spaces of Riverscape, transforming them into areas that welcome residents home. Every floor above was painted using a unique technique to subtly draw attention to individual doors, giving each level its own personality while maintaining cohesion throughout the building.
