The old 1980's styled master bath with a large platform tub and limited vanity and counter space did not make the most of the room it occupied. By incorporating an awkward linen closet in to the master closet and using a dark make up vanity area to enlarge a limited corner shower, this master bath became the glamorous retreat it was meant to be. This small bedroom allows for a double size bed, and with that, we mounted articulating wall sconces behind the headboard for reading. With no room for bedside table, we placed a mini desk and stool at the window, the round wall mirror to make the room seem larger. We love the brass detail in this design! Designed and built by Terramor Homes in Raleigh, NC. We created a bar that served the purpose of seating and again, impressive creations. The granite slab bar-top stands on large steel posts, and the backdrop underneath is an etched glass, guitar themed piece. Adding special interest are the LED lights that shine through the glass form the bottom in every color, lighting and accentuating the etchings. The bar/ mini-kitchen area itself sits on a platform just one step up, and modern veneer laminated cabinetry with a slab door style in a glossy wood grained look was chosen. Glass tiles, gorgeous lighting and walnut trimmed veneer make this bar a unique and custom feature that in unmatched. A table and chairs for games, puzzles, a chess game or a heated men’s poker night are perfectly located to view of two TV’s as necessary. Photography: M. Eric Honeycutt

I built this on my property for my aging father who has some health issues. Handicap accessibility was a factor in design. His dream has always been to try retire to a cabin in the woods. This is what he got. It is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath with a great room. It is 600 sqft of AC space. The footprint is 40' x 26' overall. The site was the former home of our pig pen. I only had to take 1 tree to make this work and I planted 3 in its place. The axis is set from root ball to root ball. The rear center is aligned with mean sunset and is visible across a wetland. The goal was to make the home feel like it was floating in the palms. The geometry had to simple and I didn't want it feeling heavy on the land so I cantilevered the structure beyond exposed foundation walls. My barn is nearby and it features old 1950's "S" corrugated metal panel walls. I used the same panel profile for my siding. I ran it vertical to match the barn, but also to balance the length of the structure and stretch the high point into the canopy, visually. The wood is all Southern Yellow Pine. This material came from clearing at the Babcock Ranch Development site. I ran it through the structure, end to end and horizontally, to create a seamless feel and to stretch the space. It worked. It feels MUCH bigger than it is. I milled the material to specific sizes in specific areas to create precise alignments. Floor starters align with base. Wall tops adjoin ceiling starters to create the illusion of a seamless board. All light fixtures, HVAC supports, cabinets, switches, outlets, are set specifically to wood joints. The front and rear porch wood has three different milling profiles so the hypotenuse on the ceilings, align with the walls, and yield an aligned deck board below. Yes, I over did it. It is spectacular in its detailing. That's the benefit of small spaces. Concrete counters and IKEA cabinets round out the conversation. For those who cannot live tiny, I offer the Tiny-ish House. One of the most important things for those of us who like enjoying a hot bath, is the water temperature. As time passes, the water temperature in your bathtub drops down and requires you to constantly be adding hot water to maintain the temperature, which in turn requires large capacity water boilers, wasting water and electricity. Made of state-of-the-art AquateX™ solid surface material, the Aquatica True Ofuro Japanese style bathtub with Tranquility bath heating system is fitted with a recirculation system (just like the traditional Japanese oidaki) and ozone disinfection system. The Tranquility bathtub heating system was designed to eliminate the hot water adding hassle and maintain the water temperature at a constant 104F /40C (41-45C in Europe and other markets).

Inspired by a trip to Legoland, I devised a unique way to cantilever the Lego Minifigure base plates to the gray base plate perpendicularly without having to use glue. Just don't slam the door.
