Accenting the teal glass backsplash tile with the vivid black and white rug is just what this small apartment needed. In this small spaces we tried to maximize space and organize effectively. Our clients came to us because they were tired of looking at the side of their neighbor’s house from their master bedroom window! Their 1959 Dallas home had worked great for them for years, but it was time for an update and reconfiguration to make it more functional for their family. They were looking to open up their dark and choppy space to bring in as much natural light as possible in both the bedroom and bathroom. They knew they would need to reconfigure the master bathroom and bedroom to make this happen. They were thinking the current bedroom would become the bathroom, but they weren’t sure where everything else would go. This is where we came in! Our designers were able to create their new floorplan and show them a 3D rendering of exactly what the new spaces would look like. The space that used to be the master bedroom now consists of the hallway into their new master suite, which includes a new large walk-in closet where the washer and dryer are now located. From there, the space flows into their new beautiful, contemporary bathroom. They decided that a bathtub wasn’t important to them but a large double shower was! So, the new shower became the focal point of the bathroom. The new shower has contemporary Marine Bone Electra cement hexagon tiles and brushed bronze hardware. A large bench, hidden storage, and a rain shower head were must-have features. Pure Snow glass tile was installed on the two side walls while Carrara Marble Bianco hexagon mosaic tile was installed for the shower floor. For the main bathroom floor, we installed a simple Yosemite tile in matte silver. The new Bellmont cabinets, painted naval, are complemented by the Greylac marble countertop and the Brainerd champagne bronze arched cabinet pulls. The rest of the hardware, including the faucet, towel rods, towel rings, and robe hooks, are Delta Faucet Trinsic, in a classic champagne bronze finish. To finish it off, three 14” Classic Possini Euro Ludlow wall sconces in burnished brass were installed between each sheet mirror above the vanity. In the space that used to be the master bathroom, all of the furr downs were removed. We replaced the existing window with three large windows, opening up the view to the backyard. We also added a new door opening up into the main living room, which was totally closed off before. Our clients absolutely love their cool, bright, contemporary bathroom, as well as the new wall of windows in their master bedroom, where they are now able to enjoy their beautiful backyard!

Part of the couple's draw to an eclectic style was based on the premise of each getting what they wanted out of the space. Although it may have initially posed a challenge to integrate Chelsea and Kiel's personal styles, the living room combines the two in perfect harmony. "Kiel tends to gravitate toward more masculine, rustic, and industrial pieces while I like more bright, colorful and whimsical pieces", states Chelsea. The mid-century chair and ottoman were found at a garage sale for $5 and reupholstered by Kiel's mother. Unassuming doses of color and pattern lend a light-hearted quality to the grouping. Inspiration for a small industrial l-shaped laminate floor and gray floor eat-in kitchen remodel in New York with an undermount sink, shaker cabinets, white cabinets, red backsplash, brick backsplash, stainless steel appliances, gray countertops and a peninsula

Simplifying the room included re-planning the ceiling over the tub and shower. Previously it was a small dropped soffit over the shower with a large angled section looming over the window. We minimized the angled section as much as possible, then extended the soffit all the way across the room. Now the kintsugi tile detail captures our interest and, of course, that natural light is magnificent. The platforms are polished porcelain tile, but the shower floor is the same tile in a matte finish. Don't tell anybody, but we've used both Kohler and Brizo fitings in the room! Notice the floor tile detail again -- you'll see this more clearly in an upcoming photo.

This project involved the design of a gunite swimming pool, adjacent stone patio & ornamental plantings. The clients desired a formal pool area that would reflect the character of their home. The project posed many challenges as the pool design not only had to fit into the existing landscape but also within numerous site & wetland setbacks. The design uses dimensionally patterned bluestone for the patio & coping to surround the 18' x 38' gunite swimming pool. An array of colorful planting envelop the surrounding landscape, cascading in washes of purple, white & green. Though the pool area is only going to be used during the warm summer months the planting plan was created such that there are peaks of interest through the entire space, all year long. The pool itself was designed with a state of the art filtration system, which uses salt to treat the pool water, rather than harsh chemicals. The outdoor space creates an elegant retreat in the client’s backyard that resembles a Nantucket oasis.

Interior Design Trends for 2021/2022 It is largely expected that the interior design trends of 2021/2022 will feature a lot of innovation and experimentation on the part of designers. As a result, these trends will surely present themselves as narkedly unconventional while still posing a challenge to designers to forge designs with a strong aesthetic appeal. Certain defining features inform the innovative trends that will highlight the approach to interior design in 2021/2022: • The modern-day, and ever-growing, eco-friendly culture will require that interior designs take the conservation of nature into strong consideration. The application of technology will be in greater harmony with the natural environment. • Redesigning the interior space will also be influenced by the sweeping changes that are occurring in the modern-day world. Technologies are rapidly evolving and thus rapidly changing our lifestyles. The interior space will have to support these changes and make room for the emergence of future technologies. • Nostalgia for the retro style will also take centre stage in the 2021/2022 season. Vintage-inspired designs – from the 70's and 90's, for instance – will come out in stark relief. • The modern-day way of living has become more complex, and this increase in complexity will have to be reflected in the interior space where we live and work. The conventional approach of delineating spaces for the different parts of a home will largely be replaced with a more integrated interior. • Also, modern technology and the constraints of the pandemic have actually succeeded in opening up the possibility of working from home. More and more companies find this more convenient and cost-effective. Hence, the future home will need to have an integrated workplace. • The conservationist culture of our time will dictate that the materials used in interior design be made of such things as are eco-friendly. This custom built beach house posed many challenged including the specific design criteria, space requirements, and limited wall space as 75% of the walls are glass. The AV closet was built into the stair spandrel, space that would have otherwise been unused. Certain walls were thickened allowing recessed TVs to sit perfectly flush with the wall. The automated buttons throughout the house control functions such as Welcome, Goodnight, & Party Mode. The home automation was designed for anyone to be able to walk into the house and use the system.

For this particular project, the concrete floor was original to the mid-century modern home. The polishing process required multiple passes and posed some challenges. These challenges included various heights of concrete floors and also a large amount of vertical concrete polishing. The flooring was finished with a black stain and a level 1 - 400 grit shine.
