THEME There are two priorities in this
room: Hockey (in this case, Washington
Capitals hockey) and FUN.
FOCUS The room is broken into two
main sections (one for kids and one
for adults); and divided by authentic
hockey boards, complete with yellow
kickplates and half-inch plexiglass. Like
a true hockey arena, the room pays
homage to star players with two fully
autographed team jerseys preserved in
cases, as well as team logos positioned
throughout the room on custom-made
pillows, accessories and the floor.
The back half of the room is made just
for kids. Swings, a dart board, a ball
pit, a stage and a hidden playhouse
under the stairs ensure fun for all.
STORAGE A large storage unit at
the rear of the room makes use of an
odd-shaped nook, adds support and
accommodates large shelves, toys and
boxes. Storage space is cleverly placed
near the ballpit, and will eventually
transition into a full storage area once
the pit is no longer needed. The back
side of the hockey boards hold two
small refrigerators (one for adults and
one for kids), as well as the base for the
audio system.
GROWTH The front half of the room
lasts as long as the family’s love for the
team. The back half of the room grows
with the children, and eventually will
provide a useable, wide open space as
well as storage.
SAFETY A plexiglass wall separates the
two main areas of the room, minimizing
the noise created by kids playing and
hockey fans cheering. It also protects
the big screen TV from balls, pucks and
other play objects that occasionally fly
by. The ballpit door has a double safety
lock to ensure supervised use.

The Crestwood Second Floor Addition project was born from the need of a growing family
residing in a 1928 traditional craftsman-style home. With five individuals confined within a 1600
SQFT space, the owners sought additional room without compromising the historical integrity of
their beloved abode. Collaborating with a skilled remodeler and architect, the homeowners
embarked on a journey to add a second story, seamlessly blending modern functionality with
timeless charm.
The addition encompasses three bedrooms, one bathroom, and a playroom, totaling 750 sq ft of
new living space. To integrate the new level harmoniously with the existing structure, the
architect devised a wedding cake base for the stairs and introduced a trayed ceiling above the
dining area, enhancing the home's architectural continuity. Floating stairs, positioned
strategically to offer picturesque views of the historic neighborhood, add an elegant touch to
the dining room.
Upstairs, the bathroom showcases a blend of durable and classic materials, featuring brass
plumbing fixtures complemented by muted white subway tiles and Vadara Quartz Sereno
Blanco counters. A contemporary blue vanity against a backdrop of white beadboard wainscot
and diagonally laid black and white cement floor tiles exudes timeless sophistication. Every
detail, including crystal door knobs, pays homage to the home's original charm.

As a huge supporter of our veteran’s, JFF Design Architects is thrilled to have the opportunity serve one of our local American Legion facilities. Ironically, I worked on this very building at the beginning of my career, some 35 years ago.
We drew inspiration and reference from Maya Lin's 1982 amazing design for the National Vietnam War Memorial. JFF Design Architects & Planners put together a conceptual redesign for the American Legion Post #156, which pays homage to its members, many of whom are from this generation of veterans and their guests. This 2,200 SF ground floor space was in dire need of renovation from the original late 1970’s motif including the bar, lounge and game room adorned with dark brown paneling. As the design unfolded, we dissolved these three separate programs into one large room that can be divided as the use changes. The bar was relocated to the west end offering a better view and servicing to the centralized lounge. The game room remains in the original location but can be combined with the lounge space with the use a retractable wall for larger functions. In the closed position, it offers the space for gaming tournaments such as darts and pool.
References to the Vietnam Memorial can be found within the design of the bar and a 125 degree angle accent tile design in the flooring. Construction has already begun and Post #156 is looking forward to the reopening for members and guests.

The gray backsplash and light brown wood streaks on the floor go well with the dining table decorated in the same color. Also, pay attention to the color of the ceiling.
The black streaks of the longitudinally positioned fixtures embedded in the ceiling harmonize perfectly with the light brown lines on the wooden floor. The white center on the floor is in perfect harmony with the color of the center part of the ceiling.
