Client desire:
Bring back the original splendor of the master bathroom in her 1905 four-square mansion, including a low profile bathtub for her mother, a separate shower for herself, and plenty of storage.
Design challenges:
The bathroom had been part of a poorly constructed 1960’s addition with a narrow passage and a substandard foundation resulting in a room that was always too cold. The original part of the house had a foot of concrete for the sub-flooring so we were unsure about the ability to move fixtures. The window size and location had to remain fixed due to architectural details on the outside of the home.
Solutions:
We removed the addition subfloor to repair the weak footings and added closed cell insulation. We widened the passage and added a floor to ceiling armoire and shallow base cabinets with a curved end for storage. Inside one of the base cabinets we concealed a new larger radiator and we added in-floor heat. Functionality and flow were improved by switching the placement of the vanity and bathtub. The arched doors throughout the house were the inspiration for the curved glass shower door, arched medicine cabinet, and curved cabinetry. The antique wall sconces were purchased by the homeowner on her quest to find lighting in keeping with the era of the home. But the pièce de résistance is the beautiful Carrera marble and basket weave tile flooring achieved by a master tilesetter who worked meticulously to create the perfect result from my design.

The enclosed arch design of the project’s masonry is one of many reflections of Japanese influence. In material selection, our choices focused on three basic criteria: design adherence, longevity and practicality.
Meeting all of these specifications, the Lamarite Slate Composite shingles replicate traditional rectangular dark-gray slate; the material chosen has contours, multiple patterns and the chiseled-edge appearance of natural slate.
The rock facing on the masonry façade and pillars is a manufactured stone material by Robinson Rock Company. It will age as natural stone. The ease of installation and extraordinary weather resistance made it a perfect choice. Flooring for the space is “Riverwashed Vyara” granite, which matches the rest of the home.
An extra wide stairway provides an additional connection to the outdoor environment. The exterior aluminum stair structure is finished with epoxy powder paint. The color typifies the Green and Green style and the tread surfaces match the granite used throughout the home.

Today I present a new project of my ethno-style mural. Several years ago I began to think about the development of modern interior design, since it is important for me not only to fill the space with things and colors, but also to express the very foundations, the origins of life.
I spent a lot of time in museums of decorative arts in Paris, Vienna, London, studying samples of ancient culture. For several years I went on long ethnographic travels and collected a small collection of antiques and vintage items. My maternal grandmother was a People's Artist of Ukraine in the technique of national embroidery and gave me a big love for decorative arts.
Today I present a project based on my research and new understanding of embroidery in a modern interior. Basis: ancient "Reshetilovskaya" embroidery from the Poltava region.
I completed the mural by transferring the old pattern to the wall. The work lasted 6 months, including research, sketches, preparation, color schemes, fitting. I also used a bit of gilding. In the current environment, this type of interior decoration is sustainable, relevant, and very inspiring.
The project has not been published anywhere before. If you are interested, I will send a photo and all the necessary materials and descriptions. I also have all my diplomas and certificates and ready to present them on request.
