A lot of Vistafolia® walls are simple rectangles because, let’s face it, most walls are rectangular. But some walls just lend themselves to something a bit different and present a fun design challenge. This particular retail store is all about standing out from the crowd and presenting their customers with a unique retail experience. As such, they wouldn’t settle for an off the shelf green wall and instead wanted a truly customized design, custom fit green walls to their vision. A real wall would have been completely unsuitable and thus an artificial solution was required.
The large timber wall in the bar presented a blank canvas to work with and our in-house design team set about creating a concept that was eye-catching and unusual. By working with our 80cm x 80cm panel size in mind, we were able to minimize wastage from offcuts, to ensure the client got the most from their Vistafolia® panels and received great value for money. VistaGreen’s design team love a challenge, and it is always rewarding to see your concept turned into a finished project.

- RIPPLES TABLE.
The Ripples bench by Toyo Ito, winner of the 2004 Compasso d'Oro, has blossomed into a collection of different furniture types. Amongst them, we may highlight the Ripples table, featuring a transparent glass table top that presents its impressive structure, fabricated with a laminated composite of five different solid woods namely, walnut, mahogany, cherry, oak and ash. The fibre colors and directions are purposefully defined to produce an elegant polychromatic effect. This unique and poetic woodwork, created within a strict aesthetic framework, is reminiscent of fluid motion, not unlike the ripple-effect produced by a stone tossed in the water.

Client desire:
Bring back the original splendor of the master bathroom in her 1905 four-square mansion, including a low profile bathtub for her mother, a separate shower for herself, and plenty of storage.
Design challenges:
The bathroom had been part of a poorly constructed 1960’s addition with a narrow passage and a substandard foundation resulting in a room that was always too cold. The original part of the house had a foot of concrete for the sub-flooring so we were unsure about the ability to move fixtures. The window size and location had to remain fixed due to architectural details on the outside of the home.
Solutions:
We removed the addition subfloor to repair the weak footings and added closed cell insulation. We widened the passage and added a floor to ceiling armoire and shallow base cabinets with a curved end for storage. Inside one of the base cabinets we concealed a new larger radiator and we added in-floor heat. Functionality and flow were improved by switching the placement of the vanity and bathtub. The arched doors throughout the house were the inspiration for the curved glass shower door, arched medicine cabinet, and curved cabinetry. The antique wall sconces were purchased by the homeowner on her quest to find lighting in keeping with the era of the home. But the pièce de résistance is the beautiful Carrera marble and basket weave tile flooring achieved by a master tilesetter who worked meticulously to create the perfect result from my design.

A custom "ship's" ladder was installed to the skylight/roof deck access door.
