The original building is constructed with steel columns that support wood beams and a wood floor system as a typical factory building was built in the late 1800's. The unique columns that were on the exterior wall presented themselves as a interesting space to place collectibles that the owners had purchased in their many travels around the world. Painting them black against the exposed brick and then adding a surface mounted light that shines up and down in the space gave them a special place in the space.

This photo shows the original cross bracing that is installed between the floor joist. There are also small metal hooks that were used in the past for old conduit or piping that was part of the original use of the building. A old wall stud that once penetrated the floor system remains but has been cut back to accommodate the new use now. These are the ends of the joist that were cut back when the new two story opening was created for the new staircase.
