Built by Schumacher Homes, America's Largest Custom Home Builder, this stunning Santa Barbara Coastal in Ravenna, Ohio, effortlessly balances classic-inspired architectural details with modern design elements. It is no wonder the Santa Barbara floor plan is a homeowner favorite, engineered with an open-concept layout that naturally keeps the entire family connected. The main living zone features a dramatic flat-peak cathedral ceiling stretching across both the great room and kitchen, adding an incredibly spacious, light-filled, and airy volume to the home's core. Designed for culinary efficiency, the kitchen boasts a massive walk-in pantry with a window, flooding the storage space with natural light so checking inventory before making a grocery list is completely effortless. Just off the main living area, an adaptive flex room stands open to your interpretation—easily functioning as a sophisticated formal dining room, private flexible home office, music room, or children's playroom depending on your lifestyle needs.
The thoughtful architecture acts as a private sanctuary when it is time to unwind, showcasing a secluded owner's retreat that shines with premium interior lighting and its own elegant cathedral ceilings. Prioritizing ultimate convenience and daily flow, the suite features a highly innovative layout: a direct laundry room pass-through door connecting the main laundry room straight into the owner's expansive walk-in closet. Completing this primary oasis, the deluxe owner's bath is beautifully appointed with a custom tile shower and dual vanities, creating a spa-like, get-away-from-it-all retreat right at home.

Our client sought to modernize their classic 1970s home while preserving its original charm. This full-home renovation prioritized openness and functionality. We transformed the kitchen into a bright, welcoming space, leveled the sunken living room to expand the living area, and designed seamless indoor-outdoor connections to showcase breathtaking south-west facing golf course & ocean views. The result? A beautifully updated home that harmonizes mid-century character with contemporary comfort.
The architecture was fun to work with, featuring dramatic roof pitches, a striking two-story double-sided fireplace, and thoughtfully designed room-to-room connections. Strategic wall cutouts and varying floor levels added interest and character, making this home a truly unique and dynamic space.
The kitchen connects to the exterior, dining room, and living room, and features a peninsula and a cozy morning nook for gathering. Thoughtful flow was essential for this busy space, creating distinct yet harmonious spaces to enjoy throughout the home.
Texture was thoughtfully incorporated using natural materials, including quartzite with cloud-like movement, woven light fixtures, and high-variation ceramic tile. The oak flooring, rich with knots and striking grain patterns, adds warmth and character to the space.

Design:
For this young Boulder family, the goal was simple: bring their home in Old North Boulder into alignment with their day-to-day.
The spaces were generous, but they felt dated and inefficient. The primary bathroom, in particular, had plenty of square footage but lacked intention. The mudroom functioned, but barely. As part of this Boulder home remodel, the focus wasn’t on adding more space; it was about using the space they already had more thoughtfully.
In the primary suite, the vision centered on creating a retreat that felt restorative and refined. A freestanding tub and shower brought softness and openness, but the true focal point was the custom sauna, a feature the homeowners were especially excited about. The design blends aesthetic warmth with everyday function, transforming what was once an oversized, underutilized bathroom into a spa-like escape.
Throughout the remodel, the guiding principle was balance: elevated design paired with real-life durability for a busy family household.
Build:
Because the rooms already existed, we maintained the original footprint and focused on improving flow and efficiency. This approach allowed us to modernize the home without unnecessary structural changes–a strategic move within this Boulder home remodel, and one that kept costs under control.
In the primary bathroom, we reworked the layout to better utilize the expansive square footage. The sauna was seamlessly integrated alongside the freestanding tub and shower, creating a cohesive, calming environment rather than disconnected features. Every element was positioned with purpose, turning a previously inefficient plan into a highly functional and luxurious daily retreat.
The mudroom was approached with equal intention. Designed for everyday transitions like coming in from the garage, managing backpacks, shoes, dog gear, and Colorado weather, the updated space prioritizes smart storage and organization. It now supports the rhythm of family life rather than working against it.
The result is an interior transformation that feels fresh, efficient, and deeply personal, a Boulder home remodel that proves meaningful change doesn’t always require expanding walls, just rethinking them.

The result is a bright, flexible extension of the home that feels cohesive, highly functional, and built to evolve with the family over time.

This kitchen renovation began with the challenge of reimagining an addition that had been DIYed onto the house 40 years ago. The previous homeowner’s efforts, while well-intentioned, fell short of today’s standards, both in terms of building codes and design choices. Materials like modern bamboo cabinetry and a choppy, poorly thought-out layout clashed with the timeless character of the home. The interior design didn’t reflect the 250-year-old Federal-style brick home’s essence, located in the heart of Historic Ellicott City. The current homeowners purchased this house because of its rich history and unique charm, and they wanted a kitchen that honored that legacy—not necessarily a period-perfect replica, but one infused with vintage character and a touch of the home’s original quirkiness.
Homes from that era were rarely perfect—they were designed for function, not flawless aesthetics. With that in mind, the renovation focused on balancing modern convenience with historical charm. For example, a small, awkwardly placed window by the refrigerator offered a view of an outdoor wall. Instead of keeping it, we opted to close it up, creating a more cohesive design. The result is a space that feels like it belongs to the home’s history while incorporating the comfort and efficiency of a modern kitchen. Every detail was carefully considered to create harmony between the old and the new. Even down to the Tiffany lampshade that effortlessly binds all of the kitchen hues in one place.
To accommodate the homeowners, who are on the shorter side, we designed countertops with their needs in mind. While we couldn’t lower the main counters without creating appliance-fitting issues—and custom appliances were cost-prohibitive—we prioritized usability wherever possible. For the countertops, they selected soapstone, a material that perfectly marries beauty and function. Its natural, timeworn appearance fits seamlessly with the home’s vintage aesthetic, and as a bonus, its antimicrobial properties make it a practical choice for a busy kitchen.
The result is a space that feels like it has always been part of this historic home—authentic, functional, and full of character.

A wet bar positioned just off the main living area adds convenience for entertaining without interrupting the flow of the space. Throughout the design, durability and organization were prioritized to ensure the basement functions effortlessly for daily use.
Even the bathroom was treated as a design opportunity, incorporating a unique feature that brings personality and character to the lower level.
The result is a bright, flexible extension of the home that feels cohesive, highly functional, and built to evolve with the family over time.

This exquisite dry bar is a statement of refinement, blending high-end craftsmanship with thoughtful functionality. The space is defined by a striking two-tone cabinet palette, pairing deep black bases with crisp white uppers framed in glass, creating the perfect balance of drama and elegance. Display shelving with integrated lighting highlights fine stemware and curated décor, adding a warm, ambient glow that elevates the bar from purely functional to a showcase piece within the home.
The backsplash is a true centerpiece, featuring a bold geometric pattern in marble with metallic inlays, offering layers of depth, sheen, and architectural interest. This statement surface pairs beautifully with the polished quartz countertop, whose delicate veining provides a seamless flow across the workspace while ensuring durability for entertaining. The design prioritizes both luxury and practicality, with a built-in beverage fridge, ample storage for glassware and spirits, and custom cabinetry tailored for organization.
Satin brass hardware provides subtle warmth against the bold black cabinetry, complementing the rich tones of the hardwood flooring beneath. Together, these elements create a sophisticated transitional aesthetic that bridges modern lines with classic detailing. Whether hosting large gatherings or enjoying an intimate evening drink, this wet bar delivers a setting that is as functional as it is luxurious—a perfect blend of elegance, convenience, and timeless design.
