A Single Family New Construction
Chicago, Illinois
Type: New Construction
Location: Ravenswood Neighborhood, Chicago, IL
We had the pleasure of collaborating with a young family to shape their vision of a welcoming, laid-back home in this new construction home. AHD was hired at the early stages of construction to create a cohesive environment from the architectural finishes, lighting design to the furnishings and decor.
This project is a testament to the couple's diverse cultural influences, blending their English heritage with the rich tapestry of their travels through India. Through thoughtful design choices, we've sought to create an environment that not only reflects their personal style but also accommodates their evolving family needs.
Our focus has been on crafting a contemporary interior that prioritizes both comfort and durability, ensuring that every aspect of the space is not only inviting but also functional for their growing family. We selected bespoke furnishings, where craftsmanship takes center stage. Each piece was carefully curated to embody an organic biophilic aesthetic, creating a refreshing haven using earthy colors and genuine materials.
Our ultimate design intent was to create a space that is healthy, practical as well as aesthetically pleasing, tailored to the lifestyle and preferences of our clients.

This two-story Mediterranean house plan is a tribute to its surroundings, offering a perfect blend of comfort and style for single-family living on flat lots. The wide covered porch sets the tone for welcoming guests into the suburban lifestyle. Inside, the ornate great room boasts a fireplace, while the kitchen dazzles with its island, butler's pantry, and breakfast nook. A family living area adds warmth and functionality to the main floor, complemented by a laundry room and three-car garage. Upstairs, the master bedroom indulges with a luxurious ensuite bathroom, while two additional bedrooms offer comfort and convenience. A screened deck adds to the allure of the upper level. With natural ventilation and premium furnishings throughout, this Mediterranean home plan prioritizes both elegance and practicality, creating an environmentally efficient living space for a variety of needs.

Patio in Bronco | Key Feature: A Scottsdale new-build rooted in sculptural modernism, Bronco Revival balances bold black-and-white contrast with organic textures, natural wood elements, and statement lighting. As a groundbreaking “Live Lab” designer residence, it’s a first-of-its-kind space where luxury furnishings are tested in real-world conditions before being introduced into high-profile client homes.
Challenge: Because Bronco Revival was the designer’s personal residence, the project carried a unique level of pressure and intention. The challenge was creating a Scottsdale new-build that felt elevated and editorial while still functioning as a true family home. Every selection had to balance bold sculptural modernism (high contrast, statement lighting, architectural furnishings) with durability, comfort, and day-to-day livability. In addition, the home served as a “Live Lab,” meaning new vendors, materials, and luxury furnishings needed to be tested in real-life conditions before being trusted for future high-profile client projects.
Solution: We approached the project with a highly curated, test-and-refine design strategy, treating each space as both a finished interior and a real-world evaluation environment. Key furnishings, textiles, and materials were selected to support the modern organic vision while also standing up to the demands of everyday family life. We worked through selections intentionally, layering in bold contrast, natural woods, and sculptural statement pieces, while prioritizing performance materials, pet-friendly durability, and timeless foundational elements. By using the home as a lived-in showroom, we were able to validate what truly performs beautifully, refine our vendor relationships, and confidently carry those proven selections into future client designs.

This project features a beautifully designed, open plan shaker kitchen, creating a bright and inviting space perfect for modern living. The kitchen's aesthetic is defined by its elegant cream and grey colour palette, providing a sophisticated and timeless appeal.
The worktops are crafted from stunning 'Grey Steel' granite, adding a touch of contemporary luxury and durability. A key feature is the spacious, curved oak breakfast bar, designed to comfortably seat six people, making it ideal for both family meals and social gatherings.
Equipped with top-of-the-line appliances, this kitchen prioritises both style and functionality. The integrated oven, combi oven, hob, and dishwasher are all from Neff, renowned for their quality and performance. A sleek Bora fridge further enhances the kitchen's modern appeal, and a Quooker tap provides instant hot water for added convenience.

Our client sought to modernize their classic 1970s home while preserving its original charm. This full-home renovation prioritized openness and functionality. We transformed the kitchen into a bright, welcoming space, leveled the sunken living room to expand the living area, and designed seamless indoor-outdoor connections to showcase breathtaking south-west facing golf course & ocean views. The result? A beautifully updated home that harmonizes mid-century character with contemporary comfort.
The architecture was fun to work with, featuring dramatic roof pitches, a striking two-story double-sided fireplace, and thoughtfully designed room-to-room connections. Strategic wall cutouts and varying floor levels added interest and character, making this home a truly unique and dynamic space.
The kitchen connects to the exterior, dining room, and living room, and features a peninsula and a cozy morning nook for gathering. Thoughtful flow was essential for this busy space, creating distinct yet harmonious spaces to enjoy throughout the home.
Texture was thoughtfully incorporated using natural materials, including quartzite with cloud-like movement, woven light fixtures, and high-variation ceramic tile. The oak flooring, rich with knots and striking grain patterns, adds warmth and character to the space.

This whole-house renovation was the third perennial design iteration for the owner in three decades. The first was a modest cabin. The second added a main level bedroom suite. The third, and most recent, reimagined the entire layout of the original cabin by relocating the kitchen, living , dining and guest/away spaces to prioritize views of a nearby glacial lake with minimal expansion. A vindfang (a functional interpretation of a Norwegian entry chamber) and cantilevered window bay were the only additions to transform this former cabin into an elegant year-round home.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Jamul, this small rural home exudes the quiet charm and tranquility of the surrounding California landscape. Designed as a peaceful retreat from the day-to-day, it reflects its owner’s deep connection to nature and her beloved menagerie of horses, chickens, sheep, ducks, and dogs. Warm, rich materials and handcrafted details define the home’s aesthetic and bring a sense of enduring comfort. The kitchen features handcrafted Hallmark cabinetry in warm-stained alder paired with ivory-painted finishes, creating a timeless and inviting palette. Quartz countertops offer easy maintenance, their golden veining harmonizing with buttery yellow Pratt & Larson handcrafted tile, where delicate bees and dragonfly relief provide a playful nod to the farm’s natural beauty. Copper accents add artisanal warmth, including a Stoll copper range hood with a custom patina finish and copper tin inlay at the island. These same materials and craftsmanship extend to the home’s fireplace surrounds. The warm-stained alder continues here, enriched with traditional dentil molding just below the mantel. Surrounding the fireboxes, artisan ceramic tile appears in a deep, rich burgundy hue, while small glass mosaic introduces a subtle interplay of soft yellows, rich browns, and creams to weave the home’s cohesive palette together. Every finish, tone, and texture — from cabinetry to fireplace — speaks a unified language of warmth and handcrafted detail. Functionality and lifestyle are equally prioritized. Now, upon entering through the new Dutch door — a favorite perch for the dogs — guests are greeted by an open, welcoming space. By removing a wall and raising a dropped ceiling, the vaulted plank and beam detailing now spans the entire space, creating a light filled, open plan that naturally connects the kitchen and living room. New high-end appliances and thoughtful features like a pull-out pantry enable the homeowner to cook and entertain with ease. Given the home’s rural setting, fire-resistant materials and durable wood-look tile flooring were selected to ensure long-term resilience, accommodating the daily rhythms of animals and outdoor living while maintaining the refined yet cozy aesthetic of a true country haven. Ultimately, this project captures the spirit of California’s rolling landscape — warm, enduring, and full of heart — creating a home that is both a sanctuary and a celebration of the life lived within and beyond its walls.

Sleek, airy, and exceptionally comfortable, the seating arrangement is designed to feel both visually light and highly inviting. Each chair is intentionally paired with its own dedicated side table, ensuring effortless convenience for entertaining, conversation, and everyday living. This thoughtful hospitality-driven detail enhances functionality while maintaining a refined, uncluttered aesthetic, reinforcing a luxury interior that prioritizes comfort, balance, and intuitive design.

At the center of this home, the kitchen isn’t just a place to cook—it’s where the family comes together. Designed with an open-concept layout, it flows effortlessly into the surrounding spaces, making it as inviting as it is functional. Since the homeowners are passionate about cooking, we prioritized thoughtful details, like a waterfall edge at the end of the island closest to the range to make meal prep an easy clean up. The oversized island acts as both a workspace and a gathering spot, providing ample room for everything. To enhance its overall impact, we selected an Orca stone for its continuous pattern and installed it with a book-matched pattern, ensuring a flawless, uninterrupted look across this showstopping centerpiece.

This kitchen renovation was designed to transform a previously segmented and dated space into a refined, highly functional centerpiece of the home. The concept balances classic architectural detailing with modern performance, creating a timeless aesthetic grounded in warmth and contrast. Perimeter cabinetry in a soft painted finish establishes a bright and elegant backdrop, while the richly stained island anchors the space with depth and visual weight. Layered lighting, warm metallic accents, and subtle stone movement introduce texture and sophistication. The overall design prioritizes symmetry, clean lines, and a seamless connection to adjacent living spaces, resulting in a kitchen that supports both everyday living and entertaining.

In the Llubí garden, our landscape design focuses on creating an aesthetic, functional, and sustainable space. We have prioritized water conservation by avoiding lawns and meadows in favor of a large gravel area. Next to the house wall, we have installed gravel stabilizers to create an ideal space for placing tables for breakfast or snacks. This area features an umbrella situated at the highest point of the garden, offering a panoramic view and allowing for full enjoyment of the surroundings.
To break the monotony of the gravel, we have introduced islands of rosemary and lavender, alternating these plants in five long and narrow islands, approximately 7 meters by 2 meters each. These plants will grow, partially covering the gravel and providing a contrasting color with the sea gravel.
Additionally, we have created five islands of various wildflowers that will grow and cover the ground, serving as points of flowering. In the center of the garden, we have incorporated a fireplace, creating a perfect space for extraordinary moments with family and friends. Around this central area, we have planted three jacarandas, providing points of shade in the garden.
The garden’s design aims to be low maintenance, highlighting wildflowers and creating areas with a high density of these plants, which gives the space a wild and natural character. This approach allows for the enjoyment of a garden that reflects natural beauty with minimal intervention.
