As a busy family of four with two boys and three cats, this client was ready for a kitchen remodel that made family life easier. With dated finishes, appliances, cabinetry, counters, and an oversized laundry room that could be better used as kitchen space, there were many aspects they wanted to change. They had five different flooring surfaces within the line of sight, kept bumping into each other in the congested hallway, wanted to move their cooktop to the perimeter of their island rather than in the middle, hated their refrigerator location, and didn’t like having an island with two heights. Good thing they came to Horizon Interior Design, where we developed solutions for every problem! We ran hardwood flooring throughout the main level to make it feel uniform and cohesive, opened up the hallway, and decreased the size of the laundry room to significantly extend their kitchen space and remove congestion in their hallway. We added more functional pull-out shelves to their pantry to replace the original rickety, narrow shelving and placed their refrigerator and cooktop on the perimeter wall, allowing for a large island with a solid surface and a decorative range hood. We reduced the size of their kitchen windows to allow for more upper cabinetry space and added a granite waterfall feature on the island for a wow factor while placing the counter stools in such a way that they didn't block up main walkways. Dark cabinetry tied in nicely with the knots in the pine ceiling, and white tile backsplash brightened up the space beautifully. This project consisted of remodeling an existing master bath and closet. The owners asked for a functional and brighter space that would more easily accommodate two people simultaneously getting ready for work. The original bath had multiple doors that opened into each other, a small dark shower, and little natural light. The solution was to add a new shed dormer to expand the room’s footprint. This proved to be an interesting structural problem, as the owners did not want to involve any of the first floor spaces in the project. So, the new shed was hung off of the existing rafters (in a sense this bath is hanging from the rafters.) The expanded space allowed for a generous window in the shower, with a high window sill height to provide privacy from the back yard. The Strasser vanities were a great value and had the desired finish. The mirror frame and center shelves were painted to match the cabinet finish. The shower can easily function for two, allowing for their busy morning schedules. All of the fixtures matched nicely in a brushed nickel finish. Our clients contacted us as they wanted to update their kitchen to give it a fresh new look. We started by tearing out the old cabinets, backsplash and countertops to get the space ready. They decided to do all new cabinets throughout the kitchen with a white shaker door. Next, we installed a new granite countertop and backsplash that really made the space stand out. Now our homeowners finally have the new kitchen they were dreaming of.

These homeowners were ready to completely transform their master bathroom. The existing space felt cramped and outdated, with an impractical linen closet, a small vanity, poor lighting, a bulky tub, and a shower that had seen better days. Their vision was clear—they wanted a warm, inviting, spa-inspired retreat with natural elements, rich textures, and a unique wood feature wall, rather than the all-white look that has become so common. The finished design brings that vision to life through a beautiful blend of color, texture, and thoughtful details. A stunning cherry vanity and counter stack, topped with luxurious quartzite countertops, create warmth and elegance. The feature wall, finished in 1" x 3" Articulo tile, adds depth and visual interest, while large-format floor tiles provide a clean, modern foundation. The curbless shower features coordinating hex tile flooring and niches, complemented by porcelain slab walls and glass panels that create an open, airy feel. A spacious freestanding tub offers the perfect place to relax and unwind. To maximize functionality, the doorway was relocated to accommodate a larger vanity, and custom barn and closet doors were added to enhance the room's character. Programmable lighting tailored to the homeowners' lifestyle, along with a custom wood feature wall designed to showcase decorative plants, transformed a once-empty wall into a stunning focal point. What was once a dreaded space is now a beautiful spa-like retreat and one of the homeowners' favorite rooms in the house.

We were excited to take on this full home remodel with our Arvada clients! They have been living in their home for years, and were ready to delve into some major construction to make their home a perfect fit. This home had a lot of its original 1970s features, and we were able to work together to make updates throughout their home to make it fit their more modern tastes. We started by lowering their raised living room to make it level with the rest of their first floor; this not only removed a major tripping hazard, but also gave them a lot more flexibility when it came to placing furniture. To make their newly leveled first floor feel more cohesive we also replaced their mixed flooring with a gorgeous engineered wood flooring throughout the whole first floor. But the second floor wasn’t left out, we also updated their carpet with a subtle patterned grey beauty that tied in with the colors we utilized on the first floor. New taller baseboards throughout their entire home also helped to unify the spaces and brought the update full circle. One of the most dramatic changes we made was to take down all of the original wood railings and replace them custom steel railings. Our goal was to design a staircase that felt lighter and created less of a visual barrier between spaces. We painted the existing stringer a crisp white, and to balance out the cool steel finish, we opted for a wooden handrail. We also replaced the original carpet wrapped steps with dark wooden steps that coordinate with the finish of the handrail. Lighting has a major impact on how we feel about the space we’re in, and we took on this home’s lighting problems head on. By adding recessed lighting to the family room, and replacing all of the light fixtures on the first floor we were able to create more even lighting throughout their home as well as add in a few fun accents in the dining room and stairwell. To update the fireplace in the family room we replaced the original mantel with a dark solid wood beam to clean up the lines of the fireplace. We also replaced the original mirrored gold doors with a more contemporary dark steel finished to help them blend in better. The clients also wanted to tackle their powder room, and already had a beautiful new vanity selected, so we were able to design the rest of the space around it. Our favorite touch was the new accent tile installed from floor to ceiling behind the vanity adding a touch of texture and a clear focal point to the space. Little changes like replacing all of their door hardware, removing the popcorn ceiling, painting the walls, and updating the wet bar by painting the cabinets and installing a new quartz counter went a long way towards making this home a perfect fit for our clients

For this kitchen remodeling project, the homeowner wanted to change the look of their kitchen while also adding more storage space. We got busy tearing out the existing cabinets, countertops and backsplash to get the space ready for the new cabinets. They went with a shaker door for the entire kitchen. For the perimeter and wall cabinets they went with a polar white color, while the peninsula and base cabinets were done in a pebble gray color. For the backsplash, they decided to go with a linear white subway tile for the perimeter walls and a white herringbone for the stove/vent area. To pull the new look together, they went with the Sterling quartz countertop. To finish this kitchen transformation, we added several new storage solution items like a tray divider, a mixer, trash can, and pantry pullouts. Now these homeowners have the kitchen they have been dreaming of.

Our design team went to work and came up with a solution to push the back wall into an unused 2nd floor vaulted space in the garage, and further expand the new master bath footprint into two existing closet areas. These inventive expansions made it possible for their luxurious master bath dreams to come true. For this kitchen remodeling project, the homeowners were looking to open up their kitchen and give it a more contemporary look. We removed the cabinets over the existing island to really open up the space. We next tore out all the existing cabinets to get the space ready for their new cabinets and island. For the kitchen cabinets, they went with an oak simple shaker door in a white color, while the island was done in an oak mission door in a cashew stain. To really make the kitchen stand out, they went with a quartz Vivalioro countertop with a waterfall edge for the island. To finish this new look, they chose a 4” x 6” arctic white matte backsplash, floating shelves and a farm sink. Now this is the dream kitchen they have been hoping for.

This was an interesting kitchen remodel as we opened the walls and remove the soffit to make the space taller at the same height of the rest of the apartment. We installed new custom cabinets from Bellmont Cabinets 1900 series. The cabinets by the stove were done in the Seaside door style in Aqua while the rest of the cabinets were done in the Porta door in Mocaccino-Matte. We next installed a new Quartz COMPAC countertop and backsplash in Luna for the kitchen while the countertop for the island was done in Moon. We placed a cable lamp on top of the island so that we didn’t have to keep the soffit. All appliances are panel ready flush installed. We also installed a tall blind corner pullout, a dish drying rack inside a cabinet and a special closet to conceal washer/dryer with sensor lights inside. To finish the new look we installed black Matte faucets and black half moon handles and pulls.

The owners of this true mid-century ranch in Wheaton were ready for a kitchen update. The home’s main living room area is decorated in a very cool, sparse way with plenty of nods to mid-century design. A new kitchen would need to bridge classic and modern notions of Mid-Century expression through the style’s characteristic clean lines and artistic notions of simplicity and straightforward functionality. The idea was to keep a hint of mid-century influence in a modern design that could somehow be more open while accommodating more storage The objectives were: • Stay within the existing space while creating an open feel and winning more storage room • Make the space brighter while using a darker cabinet finish • Create proper ventilation for the range Design challenges we solved for: • Open the kitchen to the adjacent dining room without sacrificing storage • Remove multiple layers of flooring to make the kitchen floor level with the rest of the house • Match the new kitchen flooring to the flooring in nearby dining and living spaces Problems solved. Here’s what we did: • Took out soffits around the kitchen to allow for taller cabinets with more storage • Added cabinet pull-outs that maximize under-cabinet storage space • Used large cabinets in standard sizes • Skipped cabinets on the window wall, opting for space- and light-friendly floating shelves • Enhanced overall brightness with bright, white counters and textured white tile that offered a connecting contrast to the darker woodgrain cabinets • Took out a post between the kitchen and dining room to make the space feel more open • Added under-cabinet lights – unobtrusive and handy for task lighting The owners love the look, feel and functionality of their new kitchen. This project was more of an overhaul for this family with replacing all the floors in the first level which made all the difference in the whole feel of their home. They were so ready to create the kitchen of their dreams after not being able to have more than 1 person working in the kitchen area thinking they would have to blow out several walls to make it feel more spacious. With some crazy hairbrained ideas from her mom, Andy was able to use his engineering brain and skills to modify the walls and a closet from the next room to build that hidden walk-in pantry. Marty guided them through the door and color selection, helped select flooring, and assisted in finding and loving the perfect countertops. The partnership through the design process ensured every square inch was planned for and utilized in the best possible way.

For this kitchen remodeling project, the homeowners were looking to give their kitchen a more modern and unique look. We started this remodel by tearing out the old cabinets and countertops to get the space ready. We then installed all new cabinets done in our Catalina door in a pebble gray color. For the countertop, they went with the Cambria Fieldstone quartz countertop. For the island they went with cabinets in a Slate color, while the countertop was done in an Ella quartz countertop. To finish this remodel, we installed a new luxury vinyl plank floor in slate gray. Now this is truly a show stopping kitchen.
