Clerestory glazing in an elevated roof area offers an opening into the tree canopy towards the front of the property and allows light to permeate the interior of the home, while full height windows throughout maximize the impressive views. Living spaces throughout provide ample room for entertaining and comfort. Creativity is shown in the many colourful and whimsical accents. The master bedroom features two ensuite baths - a unique request that makes good sense for the owners. Spaces for work, writing and art were given priority reflecting the values and livelihood of our clients. Projecting from a stone clad wall, cantilevered white oak stair treads lead to an extraordinary wine display that incorporates a sculptural component taken as a memento from our client’s work as a producer in the film industry, adding a strong personal dimension. What surprises people most when entering and walking on the glowing white surface in this particular Private Residence (Williamsburg, VA) is when they find out they are walking on a sea of glass! Yes, GLASS! Not marble, not granite, but GLASS! Nathan Allan has created a very fresh, unique flooring surface, which is smooth to touch on the majority of the glass surface, yet has an almost invisible safety finish permanently embedded in the glass surface. THE GLASS Nathan Allan’s Glass Flooring incorporates features which are visually stunning, while also providing a safety finish which provides comfort to everyone walking on the glass. Our Sandstone texture is forged into the bottom surface of the glass, while our exclusive Glass Sandpaper safety finish is fused onto the walking surface. To enhance all features, we added a bright, sparkling, White Metallic color finish throughout each flooring panel. SPECIFICATIONS Each Glass Flooring panel is produced in 1/2″ (12mm) thick, Low Iron, tempered safety glass. Tempered glass provides added strength, insuring that the Glass Flooring can accept a heavy load. Jordan Company, GC, and Pompei Inc, glass flooring installer. Templates were produced for all perimeter edge panels, and every shaped panel. Our clients came to us looking for a complete country-style garden design and landscape build. Their existing garden was an open space dominated by a sloping lawn, a feature summerhouse in the top corner and a shed for storage. There were two raised beds for growing home produce and some small trees in the existing garden. They wanted design inspiration to create a feature path to the summerhouse. It must be easy to mow the lawns and have considered planting in the beds. They didn’t want anything high maintenance to look after. Our clients wanted a crisp and clean formal feel to the country-style garden design, and we knew they enjoyed their Yew Topiary balls. Our other consideration for the brief was that they wanted some privacy from neighbours. Our garden designer took up the challenge and worked with the client to create their garden. Before we started, we surveyed the space in detail as we do before we start any project. After discussing their needs and desires, we knew they needed to create a feature landscaped pathway to the destination summerhouse with an adjoined gorgeous seating area. Among this, it was essential to create a level lawn area that was flat and trouble-free and fill the planting areas with perennials and shrubs in the customer’s preferred colours of white, blue and purple. Brett came along and presented me with a very professional and beautiful design to turn my unloved outdoor space into something to be proud of. I had to wait for the transformation, but once it was underway, it soon became clear that it had been worth it. The lads were hard-working and polite and left me with a lovely new feature. A flat oval lawn on the mid-level was integral to the design and surrounded by a sweeping curved pathway leading to the summerhouse. On the highest level by the summerhouse, there is a spacious seating terrace to relax. Head through the arch of black galvanised steel, where you will find several raised beds for vegetables and fruit crops. This added to their established apple tree collection. Then we planted some espalier fruit tree screens to define the garden’s zones. This abundant growing area is surrounded by wildflower meadow planting to attract wildlife and pollinators. For privacy, there are trees strategically planted on the boundaries to provide effective green screening. Descending from the lawn, you will find stepping stones to take you down to the shed. Here you will find a delightfully secluded seating spot. The area closest to the house has stepped levels of planted banks. They are filled with easy-to-care-for shrubs and perennial planting that will return year after year. The roses and lavender fill the air with a glorious scent as you pass them. What surprises people most when entering and walking on the glowing white surface in this particular Private Residence (Williamsburg, VA) is when they find out they are walking on a sea of glass! Yes, GLASS! Not marble, not granite, but GLASS! Nathan Allan has created a very fresh, unique flooring surface, which is smooth to touch on the majority of the glass surface, yet has an almost invisible safety finish permanently embedded in the glass surface. THE GLASS Nathan Allan’s Glass Flooring incorporates features which are visually stunning, while also providing a safety finish which provides comfort to everyone walking on the glass. Our Sandstone texture is forged into the bottom surface of the glass, while our exclusive Glass Sandpaper safety finish is fused onto the walking surface. To enhance all features, we added a bright, sparkling, White Metallic color finish throughout each flooring panel. SPECIFICATIONS Each Glass Flooring panel is produced in 1/2″ (12mm) thick, Low Iron, tempered safety glass. Tempered glass provides added strength, insuring that the Glass Flooring can accept a heavy load. Panels vary in size and dimension, with most panels measured at a block size of 5’0 x 6’0 (1500mm x 1800mm). Perimeter Edge panels were carved and shaped to fit tightly against the curved walls. Glass Sandpaper, ASTM tested in labs with the highest slip-coefficient safety ratings, is fused onto the walking surface, to provide a very comfortable and effective safety feature. DESIGN A White Sea of Glass flooring is the finished result of combining a light Sandstone texture on the bottom glass surface, with the added touch of a sparkling White Metallic color finish. Combined with our Glass Sandpaper safety finish, and the natural and artificial light sources, our Glass Flooring shimmers within the entire entrance space. INSTALLATION Using very important installation techniques, Nathan Allan worked hand in hand with great team of professionals: Vicki Bristow, designer, W. M. Jordan Company, GC, and Pompei Inc, glass flooring installer. Templates were produced for all perimeter edge panels, and every shaped panel.
