Moulding and Hardware: The millwork was custom-made to my specs by Schacht Millwork in Lafayette. It was cut from clear poplar, sanded, and shop-primed to make the project and the trim carpenter’s task flow smoothly. Because of various ceiling drops required to cover mechanical systems, some very creative crown layouts were established. The door styling and moulding profile for the crown, casing, base, and hardware were selected for strength and simplicity. The hardware is from Emtek, one of my favorite manufacturers. On this project we removed the wood balusters and installed two new 4096 Raised Panel Newel posts on the bottom step of the stairs using the existing volutes to create a curve into the side of the newel posts. We also installed a new 4076, 3 1/2″ Oak Box newel on the balcony railing. To complete the new profile, we put in our PC6/1, PC6/4, wrought iron balusters and our large 60/7 scalloped shoes in our Classic Black powder coat finish. We also stained the newel posts with Early American stain and polyurethane to match the existing wood treads and railing.

A beautiful custom hood with scroll details frames a gas cook top in this Traditional Cherry kitchen. Large newel posts have been added to the island and peninsula to create a furniture look. An appliance pantry to the left of the refrigerator keeps items out of site and a small breakfast station has been set up on the counter near the double ovens.
