Mediterranean home in San Mateo with traditional layout and accents. In keeping with the character of the home, client chose to include detailed crown moldings in grape pattern, decorative posts and panels on the appliances. The wall between the kitchen and breakfast room was removed to create a large open space with island and still maintained private seating area. Retained existing parquet flooring original to the home that blends nicely with the Dura Surpreme, Cherry cabinets. Devised much needed storage space with pantry cabinets, roll-outs, spice pull-outs, built-in trash and recycling. In the end, a lovely, open space worthy of guests any day of the week. Custom built island is the spotlight of the kitchen and compliments the existing, refinished red oak hardwood flooring. Island posts were custom built and the functional island base cabinets open with a touch latch system to make the doors look like wainscot panels.

Yankee Barn Homes - The homeowners brought the exterior galvanized corrugated steel into the interior of the contemporary post and beam barn home for a unique effect.

This guest bath had an addition pushed out the back of the home to accommodate a new large bathtub. This tub serves as both a large soaking tub and a shower. A vaulted ceiling with skylight welcomes large amounts of natural light. A towel warmer (seen right) can add a comfortable touch to drying off post shower, as well as dry out used towels. I have been working on the development of these beam screens in a few gardens including my personal garden. This iteration I really love since it helps with the one level deck out of the house not feel too large. The solution also came from a constraint of having to replace a post on the house overhang and instead of having a floating post, I decided to infill with more posts so it felt intentional. I love when constraints in a space lead to clever design solutions.
