I work with several basic styles of gas fed fire pits when I design outdoor gardens to enchant my clients. The popularity of fire pits and the fire effects they produce in the garden is one of fastest growing trends in outdoor design. The allure of sitting around a fire ring has been around since the beginning of mankind. Fire provides warmth, light, a cooking source and, of course relaxation. A dancing flame has a mesmerizing affect that encourages you to unwind and settle in. The popularity of fire pits, or conversation pits as they are commonly called, has grown rapidly in recent years. Bringing in a current gray colored cabinetry, silver gray custom sized sectional with a whimsical circular patterned ottoman and matching throw pillows, along with my custom designed glass and metal rolling coffee table bring uber function for this family home.

Inspiration for a transitional dining room remodel in Toronto

The patio off of the garage is covered with a slide wire awning that provides shade in the summer and sun in the winter. An outdoor room hosts dining and leisure and extends the living space of the home. The patio is paved with concrete permeable pavers which allows proper drainage on this small lot.

A 6,000 square foot 2-story new home complex in Milpitas was designed to facilitate the owners’ large business parties and gatherings, to have rooms for the kids to come back to upstairs, and a ground floor master suite with a huge walk-in closet. Several separate structures make up the dwelling: The main house, 3-car garage with carport for overflow parking, and a separate entertainment and recreation building separated by a courtyard from the main house. The business activities include gatherings in the hundreds of people, so parking was maximized and guests can flow in through a separate gate to party in the courtyard and recreation building. Inside this structure is a wet bar, billiard room, workout gym and home theater. The main house ground floor has formal and informal living rooms, open kitchen and master suite with views and expansive windows in every direction. The house is sited on the crestline of a hill with views of the San Francisco Bay and private golf course below. The indoor-outdoor aspect of the house is further accentuated with outside living and dining areas. High ceilings and expansive glass walls dissolve the sense of enclosure taking advantage of the site’s openness and privacy. The owner’s suite is downstairs in anticipation of aging-in-place, and upstairs there are three bedrooms and four bathrooms plus a sitting area lounge and casual TV loft area. The house sits on one acre at the top of a low hill range overlooking Milpitas. The city was very cognizant of the importance of keeping a low profile at this crestline and required extensive story poles and photo evidence of the proper height and siting so as not to be seen from certain selected vantage points. This extra room that was to used as an office has a spectacular view of the golf course. Knowing that the room was not going to be utilized properly, the owners decided to make it into a fun bar. This was to focused around having lots of people gathered into a smaller space. What a challenge the was going to be to include a bar, seating and an entertainment area. Not having a full walk around bar was key to this project. Creating a wall unit for the bar opened the room to having a bar height, custom Chamcha wood, bar top table for seating an hanging out. There is still plenty of room to stand around and watch the game or stand by the fabulous fireplace.

Adding a properly placed chandelier adds an importance to the small kitchen table as well as creating a proper amount of lighting with in the contrasting design.

TOMI Warm, livable, formal living room in a southern Georgian home with the families collection of antiques mixed with updated furniture. Chintz curtains with swags and jabots are very traditional but always beautiful when executed properly. A fine antique oriental rug was the starting point for the design of this room. A more contemporary glass and gold cocktail table takes the edge away from the room being too traditional. The lamps are made of decoupage with a robins egg blue background and have real silk shades. even though this room is formal it is still warm and inviting.

A very large kitchen space was made over into a comfortable, yet stunning addition to this century home. While holding true to the traditional Georgian home style, the kitchen now has all modern conveniences and then some. Granite counter tops and back splash, porcelain tiles on the floor that mimic wood and marble, built-in refrigerator, a custom range hood and a coffered ceiling are only the most obvious items. Dining room - eclectic dining room idea in DC Metro

Part of an extensive home remodel, this kitchen design was born of one man’s love of all things Harley Davidson. Color inspiration came from the client’s own cherished bike which was a stunning combination of matte black and brushed steel. The client’s wish was to have a large open area in which he could “be one with his guests” when hosting large gatherings. Cabinets, hardware and appliances all in black allow the focus to be on the beauty of the larger architectural elements as a whole. Included along the main storage wall is a hidden 42” refrigerator, dual pull-out pantries, and extra wide drawers below a pair of upper cabinets with matte black glass fold-up doors that open & close automatically via servo-drive technology. The new island - which measures just shy of 16 ½ feet! - is a true central point around which all action revolves. Wide walkways on either side provide ease of flow for multiple sous chefs and guests alike. A textured cypress soffit above the island was designed to house the modern hood and also create a feeling of unity as it is the same size as the island below. Textured cypress wood also wraps matte black cabinetry and lines the main wall, changing grain direction to provide visual interest. The 5’ Galley Workstation is a multi-functional marvel, easily transitioning from prep station to serving surface to clean-up with the addition of its built-in accessories. Placing an undercounter wine refrigerator on the back side of the island makes it easy for guests at the bar to help themselves. Close to the bar seating area, a 42” flat screen tv fits perfectly flush in the wall, practically disappearing when not in use. Unique details include a large display cabinet with a metal framed front & side crafted out of steel by a local artisan. The glass is 2-way mirror so when the interior light is off, the treasure is concealed inside. The interior is painted in the trademark Harley orange. Above a modern dining table, a one-of-a-kind chandelier was created from 3 bike helmets, painted in Harley orange by a local automobile detail shop. The interiors are finished in metallic silver for extra glow. Adjacent to the Kitchen, and initially deceiving in its simplicity, the main tv wall was quite complex and challenging to realize. It has a convex curve from left to right and slopes back from floor to ceiling. The interior hollow space created room for a shallow tv niche on top and partially recessed deep media storage cabinets below. The planning and framing involved to create the proper compound miter connections required extra diligence from the designers and builder, but the finished product was worth the effort! This cozy guest room presented a unique challenge. We were unable to do a proper headboard because it would have blocked part of the windows. The solution was to make the entire wall the "headboard" with the rich blue grass cloth anchoring the room. Using open metal and glass tables keeps it airy, yet very usable.
