Hearthstone even had the logs sandblasted to give them a weathered look. “We just love the rustic, warm feeling of a log home,” Deneen adds. “No other home compares.” The home is made from large-diameter eastern white pine in a profile from the Bob Timberlake series. “The log is sawn on two sides, then hand-hewn to a 6-inch thickness with varying heights,” says Ernie. As you can see, someone else had tried patching the damage inside without successfully repairing the damage outside. He gave me the go-ahead to fix it. Got up on the roof of this 2 story apartment and discovered that the seal on the dome was failing. Took the dome off and cleaned out the old seal and dirt that had accumulated and resealed with a premium silicone. Leak fixed! The leak caused damage to ceiling around the skylight inside. Skylight is in a winding stairway, so I put up ladders and scaffolds and tore out the bad sheetrock and replaced with new. Matched the texture and paint to blend everything back in.

She also coordinated hiring of the landscape contractors who installed the new landscape after the completion of the masonry work. As part of the rebuilding of the property, significant changes were in order to make the residence livable again. All modifications had to meet current FEMA regulations and address future storm events. The house was rebuilt 6 feet above the street level and incorporated multiple retaining walls. New salt tolerant plantings were added to provide screening for the dining and lounging terrace along the Sound side of the house. Additional plantings were added to provide screening from the nearby homes, create privacy on the dining terrace from the numerous dog walkers along the adjacent streets, provide interest without blocking views to the Sound from nearby neighbors, compliment the lovely stone retaining walls and create seasonal interest with colorful flowering shrubs.

This was a massive re-roof of another lakehouse the property featured a house, garage with carport, detatched patio, and boat house with r-panel metal roof.

Lichen, moss and other plant-based staining is a common sight on patios exposed to the UK climate. For many property owners, it’s a very difficult task to keep patios looking great in the face of the natural effects of the environment. However always happy to help Tile Doctor is available to provide the professional cleaning and sealing needed on a regular basis. This Sandstone tiled patio in Rushden was certainly a prime candidate for restoration. Not only was it completely covered in lichen and moss, but it was also cracked in parts and missing grout. The patio would therefore need not only cleaning and sealing, but also re-grouting. To begin the restoration, I opted to power jet wash the entire area to remove as much of the initial layers of moss. Then, I mixed a strong dilution of Tile Doctor Pro Clean, which is a powerful and reliable alkaline cleaner suitable for use on both internal and external natural stone tiles. This was applied liberally to the patio and scrubbed into the stone to cut through the particularly stubborn stains. The two photos below show the fantastic result. After completing the cleaning phase, I allowed the patio to dry completely overnight before returning to re-grout the entire area with mortar. To finish off I applied a fresh sealer in the form of Tile Doctor Seal and Go Extra, which an acrylic-based, fully breathable sealer appropriate for outside use. The below pictures show the final result. As you can see, it was a complete transformation – and my very happy customer will agree! Scott and Deneen Knisely built their handcrafted log home in Lock Haven Pennsylvania with hope to preserve a piece of their community’s history. In 2002, the Kniselys lived near a 20-acre property that included the Rocky Point Lodge, a locally known log house dating back more than 70 years. The building was serving as a restaurant at the time, but had taken on many roles over the years—first, and most notably, as a Boy Scout camp. When Scott heard a rumor that the property might be going on the market, he had a word with the owner, expressing his interest in buying it. Six weeks later, the acreage was his. “We loved the property and the building,” says Deneen, “but it was too damaged to be saved.” So they got to work researching companies to build the new home that would replace the old one. Since so many local people have fond childhood memories of time spent at the lodge, the Kniselys decided that the new structure should resemble the old one as closely as possible, so they looked for a design that would use the same footprint as the original. After a quick trip to Virginia to look at an existing house, they chose a modified version of the “Robinson,” a 3,750-square-foot plan by Hearthstone Inc. “When the house was being built, I researched things such as period molding depth, wainscoting height and the look of the floors,” says Deneen. Hearthstone even had the logs sandblasted to give them a weathered look. “We just love the rustic, warm feeling of a log home,” Deneen adds. “No other home compares.” The home is made from large-diameter eastern white pine in a profile from the Bob Timberlake series. “The log is sawn on two sides, then hand-hewn to a 6-inch thickness with varying heights,” says Ernie. To top off the home’s vintage look, Pat Woody of Lynchburg, Virginia, got to work on the chinking. Pat specializes in period reproductions and historical homes.
