It's always good to have a variety of racking types in your Texas wine storage space. This will provide you with versatility when it comes to collecting and storing wines.
In this photo, you can see a wine rack with a horizontal display row and 3 levels for case storage. The wine racks were constructed from Knotty Alder.

Charm and personality exude from this basement remodel! This kid-friendly room provides space for little ones to play and learn while also keeping family time in mind. The bathroom door combines craftsman tradition with on-trend barn door functionality. Behind the door, the blend of traditional and functional continues with white hex tile floors, subway tile walls, and an updated console sink. The laundry room boasts thoughtful storage and a fun color palette as well.

We remodeled this kitchen and dining room under a strict timeline with the goal of having it ready for the holidays. Our clients love to entertain, and the new open layout creates a space that brings everybody together, even the cook!
The rich wooden eight-seater dining table sets a warm and welcoming tone while contrasting with the cool blue accents, which provide a unique focal point and draws one's attention to the middle of the room. For additional seating, the kitchen island boasts 4 sleek stools that can easily be integrated into the dining area or kept where they are.

For the design of this beautiful home, our St. Pete studio used a variety of wallpapers in beautiful prints and patterns to create a modern, stylish, and sophisticated space. Thoughtful artworks adorn these walls providing curious points of interest throughout the home. Each area has a unique lighting piece adding a touch of classy elegance. In the bathroom, we added a pale green palette to create an airy, spa-like vibe. We also designed a stylish home office with a bright blue chair, plenty of storage space, and a beautiful, spacious work desk.

When you've got a beautiful and spacious backyard, but you have a small hill, a great option is to incorporate steps and a retaining wall in your design.
This beautiful creation has helped provide this home with elevation, as well as a great place to get some landscaping done. It has easy access to the patio from a lower level and it helps give this home that wow factor.

Our clients are from Indiana but have been coming to Northern Michigan for about 50 years. They originally learned about our firm through an article in Traverse the Magazine where our owner, Stephanie Baldwin, provided information about working with a design firm. They then toured a couple of our projects during a parade of homes and decided they were ready to hire for their family's cottage needs. They already owned a cottage on Walloon Lake, but were ready to design and build a new cottage in its place for more room for their family. They wanted low maintenance materials and a timeless, Northern Michigan lake cottage style. The ultimate design was completed to take advantage of the lake views and access as well as creating plenty of room for family to stay while considering aging in place. The end result is a stunning home that will be enjoyed by the entire family for generations to come.

The clients called me on the recommendation from a neighbor of mine who had met them at a conference and learned of their need for an architect. They contacted me and after meeting to discuss their project they invited me to visit their site, not far from White Salmon in Washington State.
Initially, the couple discussed building a ‘Weekend’ retreat on their 20± acres of land. Their site was in the foothills of a range of mountains that offered views of both Mt. Adams to the North and Mt. Hood to the South. They wanted to develop a place that was ‘cabin-like’ but with a degree of refinement to it and take advantage of the primary views to the north, south and west. They also wanted to have a strong connection to their immediate outdoors.
Before long my clients came to the conclusion that they no longer perceived this as simply a weekend retreat but were now interested in making this their primary residence. With this new focus we concentrated on keeping the refined cabin approach but needed to add some additional functions and square feet to the original program.
They wanted to downsize from their current 3,500± SF city residence to a more modest 2,000 – 2,500 SF space. They desired a singular open Living, Dining and Kitchen area but needed to have a separate room for their television and upright piano. They were empty nesters and wanted only two bedrooms and decided that they would have two ‘Master’ bedrooms, one on the lower floor and the other on the upper floor (they planned to build additional ‘Guest’ cabins to accommodate others in the near future). The original scheme for the weekend retreat was only one floor with the second bedroom tucked away on the north side of the house next to the breezeway opposite of the carport.
Another consideration that we had to resolve was that the particular location that was deemed the best building site had diametrically opposed advantages and disadvantages. The views and primary solar orientations were also the source of the prevailing winds, out of the Southwest.
The resolve was to provide a semi-circular low-profile earth berm on the south/southwest side of the structure to serve as a wind-foil directing the strongest breezes up and over the structure. Because our selected site was in a saddle of land that then sloped off to the south/southwest the combination of the earth berm and the sloping hill would effectively created a ‘nestled’ form allowing the winds rushing up the hillside to shoot over most of the house. This allowed me to keep the favorable orientation to both the views and sun without being completely compromised by the winds.

This eclectic kitchen has Soapstone countertops!
Thanks Granite Grannies for fabricating this project and providing us this photo! http://www.granitegrannies.com
Look through our soapstone or other stone options: http://www.stoneaction.com
Soapstone is a classic. Stone colors are available in dark gray to blueish or greenish gray with light or dramatic veining. Over a period of time as soapstone ages it achieves a beautiful patina. When treated with mineral oil the stone will darken. Soapstone is an ideal kitchen countertop choice because it never has to been sealed and has high heat resistant properties.
Soapstone, although soft, is a very dense (non-porous) stone. Most people are surprised to learn it is more dense than marble, slate, limestone and even granite. Since soapstone is impenetrable and it will not stain. No liquid will permeate its surface. This is why through the years soapstone is widely used in chemistry lab countertops and acid rooms.
If you love the dark beauty of granite and the light veining of marble, consider soapstone instead. It's durable, relatively low-maintenance, and has a lovely, old-world feel.
