Inspiration for a large country red two-story mixed siding exterior home remodel in Boston

This beautiful French Provincial home is set on 10 acres, nestled perfectly in the oak trees. The original home was built in 1974 and had two large additions added; a great room in 1990 and a main floor master suite in 2001. This was my dream project: a full gut renovation of the entire 4,300 square foot home! I contracted the project myself, and we finished the interior remodel in just six months. The exterior received complete attention as well. The 1970s mottled brown brick went white to completely transform the look from dated to classic French. Inside, walls were removed and doorways widened to create an open floor plan that functions so well for everyday living as well as entertaining. The white walls and white trim make everything new, fresh and bright. It is so rewarding to see something old transformed into something new, more beautiful and more functional.

Inspiration for a timeless master freestanding bathtub remodel in New York with recessed-panel cabinets, white cabinets, an undermount sink and brown walls

The 800 square-foot guest cottage is located on the footprint of a slightly smaller original cottage that was built three generations ago. With a failing structural system, the existing cottage had a very low sloping roof, did not provide for a lot of natural light and was not energy efficient. Utilizing high performing windows, doors and insulation, a total transformation of the structure occurred. A combination of clapboard and shingle siding, with standout touches of modern elegance, welcomes guests to their cozy retreat. The cottage consists of the main living area, a small galley style kitchen, master bedroom, bathroom and sleeping loft above. The loft construction was a timber frame system utilizing recycled timbers from the Balsams Resort in northern New Hampshire. The stones for the front steps and hearth of the fireplace came from the existing cottage’s granite chimney. Stylistically, the design is a mix of both a “Cottage” style of architecture with some clean and simple “Tech” style features, such as the air-craft cable and metal railing system. The color red was used as a highlight feature, accentuated on the shed dormer window exterior frames, the vintage looking range, the sliding doors and other interior elements. The entry speaks to the expert craftsmanship, displaying meaning behind each board, tile and stone. The symmetry of the curved arched doorways, which define the Provincial Architecture style, is a showcase in the entry. The pattern and size of the tile was designed to be perfectly proportioned for each space in the residence, hand drawing custom design throughout.

This 5,523-square-foot French Country residence offers a modern twist on classic European elegance. Located on a prominent corner lot near downtown Naperville, this home blends timeless style with contemporary living. The open-concept main floor flows seamlessly, highlighted by a stunning glass stair tower showcasing the custom curved staircase. A spacious, wrap-around patio provides ample seating to enjoy the vibrant pedestrian traffic of the nearby downtown area. Interior details include groin vaulted hallways on both levels, creating a sense of character and warmth throughout the home. The south-facing Orangerie, bathed in natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows, evokes the charm of a Parisian salon with its classic checkerboard floor and comfortable lounge furniture.
