The media room features a wool sectional and a pair of vintage Milo Baughman armchairs reupholstered in a snappy green velvet. All upholstered items were made with natural latex cushions wrapped in organic wool in order to eliminate harmful chemicals for our eco and health conscious clients (who were passionate about green interior design). An oversized table functions as a desk or a serving table when our clients entertain large parties.

Complete renovation of a 1900s Queen Anne Victorian kitchen in the tiny town of Moulton, TX. Interior Design by Sarah Stacey Interior Design

Designing additions for Victorian homes is a challenging task. The architects and builders who designed and built these homes were masters in their craft. No detail of design or proportion went unattended. Cummings Architects is often approached to work on these types of projects because of their unwavering dedication to ensure structural and aesthetic continuity both inside and out.
Upon meeting the owner of this stately home in Winchester, Massachusetts, Mathew immediately began sketching a beautifully detail drawing of a design for a family room with an upstairs master suite. Though the initial ideas were just rough concepts, the client could already see that Mathew’s vision for the house would blend the new space seamlessly into the fabric of the turn of the century home.
In the finished design, expanses of glass stretch along the lines of the living room, letting in an expansive amount of light and creating a sense of openness. The exterior walls and interior trims were designed to create an environment that merged the indoors and outdoors into a single comfortable space. The family enjoys this new room so much, that is has become their primary living space, making the original sitting rooms in the home a bit jealous.

For this two-story Queen Anne-style Edwardian, we utilized a neutral color palette of ivory, greige, and taupe with splashes of watery blues and greens. The clients are a couple with hectic work schedules who needed a tranquil retreat where they could relax and recharge. Throughout the home, we painted walls, ceilings, and trim a clean, crisp white paint. Against this shell, streamlined silhouettes and organic shapes, create continuity from room to room. As a counterpoint to classical architecture, we installed mid-century styled furnishings and contemporary art.

The piece de resistance of the master bath just might be the over sized freestanding tub. Its generous proportions fit right in with the scale of the space, and whether bathing small children or taking a relaxing soak, it is the place to be.
An original artwork by friend and artist Ann Carrington adorns the wall above the tub. Constructed of buttons sewn onto black velvet, the piece is from her Pearly Queens series. The shimmering opalescent buttons catch light from the window, adding a sense of pure luxury to this corner of the room. Beyond the tub is an antique brass candelabra that Cortney has repurposed into a rack for her necklace collection.
