Our client wanted to update the entire first floor of her "very beige, traditional tract home." These common areas included her Kitchen, Dining Room, Family Room and Living Room. Her desire was for us to convert her existing drab, beige house, into a more "modern" (but not TOO modern) looking home, while incorporating a few of her existing pieces she wished to retain. I LOVE a good challenge and we were able to completely transform her existing house into beautiful, transitional spaces that suite her and her family's needs. As designers, our concern was to design each area to not only be beautiful and comfortable, but to be functional for her family, as well. This beautiful Carlsbad kitchen remodel strikes a perfect balance of being light and bright while feeling warm and inviting with the mix of wood tones. While large in size, the original kitchen lacked functionality, so the design of the space had to address several key concerns for the homeowners who are both avid home chefs. One of the key focal points was designing an island that would provide ample prep space while also serving as a gathering spot for the family. Additionally, utilizing a different wood finish for the island - in this case walnut - enhanced the custom look and feel of the space. Drawers were selected for storage as opposed to traditional cabinets in the island, while elegant brass pulls complete the look. For the cabinetry around the perimeter of the kitchen, a creamy white finish was selected with glass front upper cabinets illuminated along the top - the perfect spot for displaying family mementos. Special attention was paid to properly space planning the kitchen to ensure that there was ample space for the refrigerator, pantry door, and oven to open comfortably - an issue that had plagued the original design. Top of the line appliances from SubZero and Wolf were selected to complete the client’s wish for a kitchen with all of the culinary bells and whistles.

This white kitchen has a timeless design, featuring maple cabinetry with beadboard doors. A curved prep area and island seating allow casual conversation while the cook does their thing. The white range hood blends seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen, while the glass cabinet doors, roman spindle legs by the sink, open shelving and crown molding add a polished but uncluttered touch.

This client had a large square backyard that wasn't particularly interesting and was way too hot most of the afternoon. She wanted to be able to enjoy the space, grow food, and was also very concerned with groundwater recharge. The downspouts from the roof were directed into a large dry creek for onsite water harvesting which also serves as a main visual feature as it curves through the garden. Meandering pathways of decomposed granite lead you wherever you might want to go - whether that's out to the patio to get some shade under the arbor in the hot afternoon sun, or to the elongated raised vegetable beds. Party guests can sit at one of two patios or even sit on the generous benches around the sides of the raised bed. Curving shapes allow all of the garden features to flow together. Plants were installed on large soil mounds which allow for excellent drainage as well as topographic interest. Client's existing heirloom roses were replanted throughout garden. This overgrown weedy space was transformed into a beautiful, multi-functional garden for entertaining, relaxing, growing food, and recharging groundwater.

This was the last room in the house the homeowner wanted to refresh. She is very concerned about the environment and what we put in landfills, so she knew refacing was the way she wanted to go. She wanted a place to make cookies with her grandkids and there was enough room for a new kitchen island refaced in black for contrast with matching door profiles. The rest of the cabinets were done in a custom arched raised panel profile door done in antique white. We finished the new look with a quartz countertop done in Hazelwood, a tile backsplash done in Haiku and crown molding on top of the cabinets. The homeowner loves her refreshed kitchen. Says it looks brighter, more open, and more functional.

The previous bathroom had large windows facing the front of the house, which raised privacy concerns for the clients. To address this, we replaced the existing windows with frosted glass. The frosted windows not only ensured the much-needed privacy but also allowed ample natural light to filter into the room, creating a serene and well-lit atmosphere.

We recently had the pleasure of completing a remarkable backyard makeover that presented us with some exciting challenges and opportunities for creativity. Our clients wanted to revamp their backyard, focusing on enhancing functionality and creating a low-maintenance, beautiful outdoor space. One of the main objectives was to expand the usable patio area without the need to tear out and pour new concrete. To achieve this, we carefully considered the existing patio curves, respecting their unique shape and making the entire area look intentionally designed. Additionally, drainage was a crucial concern. We took the initiative to install proper drainage solutions to prevent water pooling and ensure the longevity of the space. Our client, an MMA enthusiast, had a specific request to elevate his training experience. To accommodate this, we designed a raised platform with putting-green turf, providing the ideal spot for his Body Opponent bag while maintaining a clean and mud-free training area. For the plant-loving homeowner, we incorporated beautiful Austin limestone chopped block raised beds with a central irrigation system. This resulted in aesthetically pleasing and low-maintenance raised planters, adding vibrant greenery and a touch of nature to the backyard. We utilized the pallet of paver bricks they already had on hand to create practical hardscape walking pads, connecting different areas of the backyard while seamlessly blending with the design. Despite the challenges, we successfully turned their backyard into a fully functional and inviting outdoor retreat. The space now embraces their passions, meets their desires, and offers a tranquil escape for relaxation and enjoyment.

This South End single family project was a cosmetic renovation to a four story single family residence. The client’s primary concern was schedule as they needed to move into the residence only three weeks after purchasing the home. The scope Haycon executed included painting the entire house, refinishing the kitchen cabinets, refinishing and installing a runner on the stairs, replacing lighting fixtures and switches, replacing plumbing fixtures in the master bathroom, re-facing the master bathroom vanity, installing wall paper at two bathrooms and changing all the door hardware.
