Kitchen - country galley dark wood floor and brown floor kitchen idea in Denver with raised-panel cabinets, distressed cabinets, white backsplash, stainless steel appliances, an island and gray countertops

Transforming this small bathroom into a wheelchair accessible retreat was no easy task. Incorporating unattractive grab bars and making them look seamless was the goal. A floating vanity / countertop allows for roll up accessibility and the live edge of the granite countertops make if feel luxurious. Double sinks for his and hers sides plus medicine cabinet storage helped for this minimal feel of neutrals and breathability. The barn door opens for wheelchair movement but can be closed for the perfect amount of privacy.

A heavy kitchen appliance, like a Kitchenaid mixer, can be lifted with ease to countertop level and conveniently stored in its own cabinet with an appliance cabinet from Dura Supreme Cabinetry. This is a great storage solution to help save counter space, create more kitchen workspace and make putting away your small kitchen appliance easier with less lifting.
The key to a well designed kitchen is not necessarily what you see on the outside. Although the external details will certainly garner admiration from family and friends, it will be the internal accessories that make you smile day after day. Your kitchen will simply perform better with specific accessories for tray storage, pantry goods, cleaning supplies, kitchen towels, trash and recycling bins.

An over-the-air (OTA) HDTV antenna. A HD television antenna was mounted (and grounded) in the second-floor attic to eliminate the unsightliness of exterior mounting. Free HDTV signals are received with crystal clarity. Also visible in the upper right of the photo is new phone, network, and video cable run as part of the structuring wiring project, connecting the structured wiring panel to a set of second floor wall jacks, carefully tacked to a roof truss to keep it off of the lower joists and eliminate the trip hazard.
Project background: A whole-home re-wire. DemNET Technologies was brought in to remove and recycle old, outdated wiring, and re-wire this home with modern, high speed cable. DemNET also installed a structured wiring center and telecom rack, ran new wires to the outdoor service boxes, installed a HDTV antenna in the attic, and installed 7.1 surround sound in the family room, with a Zone 2 setup in the basement.

Storing pots and pans is a typical struggle for most people. Stacking them provides the frustration of finding a place to store the lids. By adding pull-out drawers inside this 30” cabinet adjacent to the range, the Client has access to all of their cooking tools in reaching distance without having to rearrange the cabinet every time. And the lids? They fit right on top of their matching pot.

This remodel was a dated 1980s Cape Cod style home that desperately needed updating with the kitchen starting as the foundation for the rest of the home. The owners purchased the property in 2013 with the intent of replacing the existing kitchen installed in 2000, as well as updating most surfaces throughout the home. The space while moderately sized, felt cramped due to the L-shaped design and eat-in island that disrupted traffic flow from the mudroom, dining room and sliding doors to the patio. The owners knew they wanted to bring the light from the southern facing front of the home to the dark cave-like feeling of the kitchen. This was remedied by knocking down the wall between the existing dining room (now a lounge area), widening the entrance to the family room and creating a pathway to the existing formal living room (now the dining room). Also to create better traffic flow into the kitchen, the existing mudroom door was moved to the opposite side of the wall.
A large work island with cooktop, oven and convection/microwave was designed for efficiency and maintaining clean site lines. The work triangle allows for quick and easy meal prep and clean-up for the busy family. Space at the end of the kitchen was perfectly suited for a large kitchen table with views of the back yard, easy conversation with the cook at the island or those hanging in the newly appointed lounge area. The new doorway between the kitchen and dining room showcases the 10ft floor to ceiling bay window, allows more light to flood into the space and creates easy access between the two rooms for family gatherings. Given the home owners relocated to the area for job reasons and are not sure how long they will be in this home, we helped them achieve a balance of a design and finishes that they not only love, but would be appealing to many if another move was in their near future.

One of the keys to this IKEA kitchen was for it to match the overall style of the home.
“We wanted to match the character of our 100-year-old house at least in spirit — which meant we wanted no super modern stuff. We wanted a color scheme we loved versus something neutral for resale value, and also wanted warm, bright lighting. Overall, we wanted a space that felt great to work in and that meant laying things out so when we cook it feels easy.”
Making this happen meant incorporating an externally venting hood into this IKEA kitchen.
“This way our house wouldn’t smell like whatever we cooked over the past three days,” he says.
In addition, the couple’s budget included materials and labor for the cabinets, countertops, refinished floor, tiling, lighting, the nice range and hood and Bosch dishwasher.
This also includes the custom cabinet fronts and panels from Semihandmade, which are seen on the white upper cabinetry and dark base cabinetry. (By the way, the New York Times recommends us as a design resource for customers considering custom doors for their cabinets.)
The base cabinetry flows from the refrigerator along past the dishwasher and onto the other side of the oven. This provides ample storage options for dishtowels and other cooking supplies. The upper cabinetry provides storage for dishes and runs from either side of the external venting hood into the corner by the window. Open shelving is above the sink area, providing additional storage for pots and pans as well. Capping off the look is gold knobs and pulls from Rejuvenation, adding to the warm, classic feel.
