This site underwent a dramatic transformation from a casual outdoor afterthought to a well-defined, functional, and beautiful space. The front entry was redirected and opened, and features the porch and landing. The raised garden beds line the entire space creating rooms and directional flow. Layers of white and green plant materials fill the beds, while taller specimens create private spaces. Photo Credit: Linda Oyama Bryan

Patio - transitional patio idea in Miami
Patio - transitional patio idea in Miami

The project began with this request to have a home that was understated but uniquely unfolded after entering. Each living space redirects orientation; expansive courtyard views shift to private gardens, and neighborhood foliage is displayed in vaulted clerestory windows, also giving unexpected volume to the low-slung house. The house is organized around an existing pecan tree and proposed pool with bedrooms off the courtyard. The living room and master bedroom bookend this oasis with covered patios under the canopy overlooking the pool.

A redirected entry created this special lounge space that is cozy and very retro, designed by Kennedy Cole Interior Design

We’ve come across this particularly where twin’s share a room, and the immediate question is: should we double up on everything or give them their own unique items? Well, the answer (for once) is you can do both! Take a minute to think what characteristics each child displays and slot in favorite colors, tendencies toward frills or no-frills, introvert, extrovert, tomboy, girlie and combine with any functional needs you’ll need to accommodate. Dream up the style you’d like to portray the space in, and then divide and conquer with variations in PALETTE.

This 580 sq.ft. garage conversion included the installation of french doors opening to an understated rock garden, paned windows replacing dual garage doors, new concrete HardiePlank lap siding and cedar planked soffits. Additionally irrigation improvements were made redirecting run-off water to a french drain located at the rear of the property.

Thinking the heat from this Falmouth home's new Valor Fireplace is going to ruin the beautiful shiplap wall, Samsung TV and Sonos Sound Bar?
??? ???? ????.
Valor's HeatShift system uses interior ducts to redirect 60% of the heat up and then back into the room via a vent near the ceiling. No need for a noisy fan.
HeatShift is a great feature to have if your surrounding walls, artwork, or electronics need to be cool.
Shown in photo: Valor L3 Gas Fireplace, Samsung 75" Smart TV with a Sonos PlayBar - All compatible with a Control4 home automation system and all available at Vineyard Home.
