This project focused on creating a clean, ultra low maintenance outdoor environment that seamlessly builds upon the home’s recent remodel. The rear yard was thoughtfully expanded by incorporating a previously unused and vacated easement area, allowing us to extend the usable space by nearly ten feet and significantly improve overall flow and functionality. The design emphasizes simple lines, durable materials, and low water plantings for long term ease of care. In the front yard, we refreshed the landscape with new planting and replaced inconsistent lawn areas with a stable rock ground cover, creating a more polished look with greater durability and reduced upkeep.

We at ABC Blind & Drapery work hard to update our website with all of our latest products and projects so that you can make decisions from the comfort of your own home. However, we also think it is important to accommodate those who prefer to touch and see our products in person at our drapery and blinds showroom. Located at 6221 North Lamar Blvd., it is open for those who would like to come in and discuss your options. This is also where customers are able to drop off any products that need repair, as we are able handle typical repairs such as restrings or replacement of cord-locks.
In our showroom you will be able to see some of our retractable options in action, a variety of our products installed as examples, as well as browse through our numerous sample books. We especially like to show folks the power of solar shades and how they are able to dramatically reduce damaging UV rays and heat from the Texas sun, while maintaining control over the amount of light allowed in. It is within this space that customers are able to meet with a designer and truly imagine the possibilities, as the options are endless.

Removing a wall in a small two-bedroom unit has resulted in a significant transformation. By opening up the space, a seamless connection has been established between the kitchen, dining area, and living room, creating a multi-functional and versatile area. The removal of the wall has eliminated the physical barriers that previously separated these spaces, fostering a sense of openness and facilitating better communication and interaction among family members.
The kitchen extension resulting from the removal of the wall has provided several practical benefits. Firstly, it has allowed for the expansion of the bench space, providing more room for meal preparation, cooking, and other kitchen activities. Additionally, the kitchen extension has led to an improvement in storage capacity. This means that kitchen utensils, appliances, and ingredients can be neatly organized and easily accessible, reducing clutter and enhancing efficiency in the kitchen.

Rodwin Architecture and Skycastle Homes
Location: Boulder, CO, United States
We recently completed the design and construction of this beautiful 3800 s.f. contemporary Colorado mountain home, above the foothills of Boulder. We designed the house to maximize the sweeping views of Indian Peaks mountain range, while simultaneously optimizing passive solar design. The open floor plan brings natural light and passive cooling into every part of the house; the vaulted ceilings create an airy, sunny feeling. Every room opens to generous patios and decks to facilitate easy indoor/outdoor living. White Oak floors, granite counters and local flagstone finishes lend a warm modern texture to the home. We carefully preserved one hand-built quartz wall that was part of the house that formerly occupied the site, and restored the original adjacent homestead, successfully receiving Historic Landmark designation. This very energy efficient home (HERS 40 – uses 60% less energy than allowed by code), uses solar–photovoltaics, foam insulation, Energy Star windows & appliances, LED lighting, and a high-efficiency mechanical system. It uses EPA Watersense plumbing fixtures and Xeric landscaping to dramatically reduce water

This professional testing equipment allows our certified inspectors to create detailed EMF exposure maps of your living spaces and recommend evidence-based solutions for reducing electromagnetic radiation levels in your home.

We transform this space into a serene oasis with our custom window treatment designed to combat intense heat and create a calming atmosphere. By combining light filtering roller shades with blackout roman shades on the front, we provided for the perfect balance of natural light and privacy control.
The light filtering roller shades gently diffuse sunlight, allowing a soft, warm glow to fill the room while reducing glare and UV exposure. This feature helps to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature by blocking out excess heat, without compromising on the beauty of natural light.
On the exterior, the blackout roman shades in a serene white hue offer maximum light blockage, ensuring complete darkness for a restful night's sleep or a cozy afternoon nap. These shades not only enhance the privacy but also provide excellent insulation, keeping the space cool and comfortable during hot summer days.
With our calming white color scheme, you can create a tranquil and inviting ambiance that promotes relaxation and rejuvenation. Let our window treatment project be the perfect solution to enhance your living space while providing relief from the harsh effects of intense heat.

Dare to design... the fireplace of your dreams, while being environmentally friendly! Frontenac is not only the name of a grand hotel located in the heart of Quebec City, Canada. It is also the largest fireplace of the Valcourt brand. Majestic and imposing, this bravery symbol of the Count of Frontenac, who has fiercely defended the French colony, is quite appropriate to represent the enormous challenge overtaken when designing and manufacturing this fireplace. Exceptionally large, the FP11 Frontenac uses advanced technology to reduce air pollution and is already qualifies for Phase II of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) voluntary program for manufacturers of decorative wood burning fireplaces. With particulate emissions below 5.1 g/kg (which is approximately 70 percent cleaner than unqualified models), this model will surely give you elegance without compromising the quality of air. Just like the FP7-LM Antoinette, the FP11 Frontenac has a guillotine door that disappears in the hearth, allowing you to easily load wood on the fire and have an unrivaled view of the flames. The fire screen is also equipped with a guillotine mechanism. You will thus enjoy an open fire in safety when the ceramic glass door is open. Finally, the bare front allows significant flexibility and creativity in the design of your interior decor.

As a busy family of four with two boys and three cats, this client was ready for a kitchen remodel that made family life easier. With dated finishes, appliances, cabinetry, counters, and an oversized laundry room that could be better used as kitchen space, there were many aspects they wanted to change.
They had five different flooring surfaces within the line of sight, kept bumping into each other in the congested hallway, wanted to move their cooktop to the perimeter of their island rather than in the middle, hated their refrigerator location, and didn’t like having an island with two heights. Good thing they came to Horizon Interior Design, where we developed solutions for every problem!
We ran hardwood flooring throughout the main level to make it feel uniform and cohesive, opened up the hallway, and decreased the size of the laundry room to significantly extend their kitchen space and remove congestion in their hallway. We added more functional pull-out shelves to their pantry to replace the original rickety, narrow shelving and placed their refrigerator and cooktop on the perimeter wall, allowing for a large island with a solid surface and a decorative range hood.
We reduced the size of their kitchen windows to allow for more upper cabinetry space and added a granite waterfall feature on the island for a wow factor while placing the counter stools in such a way that they didn't block up main walkways. Dark cabinetry tied in nicely with the knots in the pine ceiling, and white tile backsplash brightened up the space beautifully. Our new kitchen layout meant the family had a nicer view while walking down the stairs, rather than staring at the top of kitchen cabinets.

The homeowners chose to install perimeter cabinets using Dynasty by Omega. They chose the Madrid door style, Cherry wood, and a truffle stain. As for the island cabinets, they wanted the Madrid door style and Maple wood and then opted for the Pearl paint. The countertops are quartz and the island is granite.
Before the renovation started, the homeowners selected Jenn-Air appliances, including an induction cooktop and built-in microwave oven with speed cook. Once the construction was underway, we removed the bulkheads to allow new cabinets that extended to the ceiling with two PC crown molding. This provided a cleaner, more modern look along with added storage for items that are occasionally used.
We also swapped the pantry and refrigerator location to open up space as you enter the kitchen from the garage. The redesign also gave the refrigerator a built-in look. Then, we moved the cooktop to the corner and installed stainless steel Zephyr range hood and beveled subway tile in a herringbone pattern. The backsplash and new cooktop turned the most used area of the kitchen into a design feature.
The addition of an enlarged island allows extra seating for up to four people. Moreover, island cabinets include two full-sized waste baskets for recycling and standard waste. The new farmhouse sink from Kohler not only looks and functions well but the drain is positioned at the rear corner. The plumbing in the cabinet below is consolidated to the back corner providing much more storage. Last, the built-in TV not only looks great but also reduces counter clutter. Plus, the drawer below the TV contains USB outlet for small personal device charging.

We were asked by the client to develop the rear of the property for entertaining family & friends. The wish list included a pool, a generous deck, a hot tub, a lounge area, a sunning deck, and a screened room retreat located within the trees. Pulling off the home’s contemporary architecture, we kept the design linear and simple. An 18 x 36 gunite pool with wedding cake style steps is the visual centerpiece of this back yard sanctuary. Two bluestone terraces are on either side of the pool; one supporting the chaise lounges that face south for optimum tanning while the other is home to the dining area that also provides a transition to the rest of the yard. Large bluestone steppers with lawn joints connect both areas without the heavy feel of a solid walkway.
The existing deck was modified which allowed us to sink the hot tub into the frame. This reduced the overall height and kept the sight lines from the home’s interior intact. A vertical cedar screen was built for added privacy and that same material, albeit proportionally smaller, was used to wrap the hot tub for a cohesive look.

Block the sun and maintain your view!
Our large selection of interior solar screens is the ideal solution to your indoor natural lighting needs. Allow the proper amount of sunlight in while creating the perfect environment in your home. Utilize the interior solar screens to reduce the sun’s glare while saving money by blocking the heat from entering the room. Choose from a variety of fabrics that can blend with their surroundings or feature them as a design aspect in the room. Our interior solar screens are best for windows, glass doors, and sunrooms. Maintain your view while blocking harmful UV rays.

The Cherry Road project is a humble yet striking example of how small changes can have a big impact. A meaningful project as the final room to be renovated in this house, thus our completion aligned with the family’s move-in. The kitchen posed a number of problems the design worked to remedy. Such as an existing window oriented the room towards a neighboring driveway. The initial design move sought to reorganize the space internally, focusing the view from the sink back through the house to the pool and courtyard beyond. This simple repositioning allowed the range to center on the opposite wall, flanked by two windows that reduce direct views to the driveway while increasing the natural light of the space.
The island has a custom steel base with hammered legs, with a natural wax finish on it. The top is soapstone and incorporates an integral drain board in the kitchen sink. We did custom bar stools with steel bases and upholstered seats.

ZeroEnergy Design (ZED) created this modern home for a progressive family in the desirable community of Lexington.
Thoughtful Land Connection. The residence is carefully sited on the infill lot so as to create privacy from the road and neighbors, while cultivating a side yard that captures the southern sun. The terraced grade rises to meet the house, allowing for it to maintain a structured connection with the ground while also sitting above the high water table. The elevated outdoor living space maintains a strong connection with the indoor living space, while the stepped edge ties it back to the true ground plane. Siting and outdoor connections were completed by ZED in collaboration with landscape designer Soren Deniord Design Studio.
Exterior Finishes and Solar. The exterior finish materials include a palette of shiplapped wood siding, through-colored fiber cement panels and stucco. A rooftop parapet hides the solar panels above, while a gutter and site drainage system directs rainwater into an irrigation cistern and dry wells that recharge the groundwater.
Cooking, Dining, Living. Inside, the kitchen, fabricated by Henrybuilt, is located between the indoor and outdoor dining areas. The expansive south-facing sliding door opens to seamlessly connect the spaces, using a retractable awning to provide shade during the summer while still admitting the warming winter sun. The indoor living space continues from the dining areas across to the sunken living area, with a view that returns again to the outside through the corner wall of glass.
Accessible Guest Suite. The design of the first level guest suite provides for both aging in place and guests who regularly visit for extended stays. The patio off the north side of the house affords guests their own private outdoor space, and privacy from the neighbor. Similarly, the second level master suite opens to an outdoor private roof deck.
Light and Access. The wide open interior stair with a glass panel rail leads from the top level down to the well insulated basement. The design of the basement, used as an away/play space, addresses the need for both natural light and easy access. In addition to the open stairwell, light is admitted to the north side of the area with a high performance, Passive House (PHI) certified skylight, covering a six by sixteen foot area. On the south side, a unique roof hatch set flush with the deck opens to reveal a glass door at the base of the stairwell which provides additional light and access from the deck above down to the play space.
Energy. Energy consumption is reduced by the high performance building envelope, high efficiency mechanical systems, and then offset with renewable energy. All windows and doors are made of high performance triple paned glass with thermally broken aluminum frames. The exterior wall assembly employs dense pack cellulose in the stud cavity, a continuous air barrier, and four inches exterior rigid foam insulation. The 10kW rooftop solar electric system provides clean energy production. The final air leakage testing yielded 0.6 ACH 50 - an extremely air tight house, a testament to the well-designed details, progress testing and quality construction. When compared to a new house built to code requirements, this home consumes only 19% of the energy.
