In the award winning Pennsylvania Room, vintage Chairs are in a Philadelphia style, reupholstered in a Thibaut crewel fabric. Because they have open legs instead of skirts, they help visually expand a modestly sized space. Art purchases include a print of George Washington at Valley Forge which was custom framed, and digitally reproduced maps of Colonial Pennsylvania, also framed for the space. Accessories include a Wedgwood Franklin bowl, and a plate with Philadelphia architectural landmarks. Birch logs add depth to the black marble fireplace, original to the house. A flat screen TV is on a hinged bracket, to allow guests to pull it out for better viewing. The colors of the room are inspired by the portrait of Col. Edward Butler, an officer of the Pennsylvania line. The new wall color adds warmth and contrast to the linen white trim color. Bob Narod, Photographer, LLC

Arlene Ladegaard of Design Connection, Inc. was chosen to assist with the new designs and renovations. This large, classic-styled home featured beautiful moldings, cabinetry, and craftsmanship, but was in need of an update. Although the windows were beautiful on their own, they looked too bare without window treatments. Gray linens were chosen with a contrasting accent band and the chrome rods with crystal finials blended well with the other accents. The new draperies define the space while adding softness and drama. A massive area rug completes the look and adds warmth and elegance to this beautiful formal living room. The clients wanted a formally dressed living room with comfortable, elegant furniture to accommodate entertaining multiple guests. The scale of this space allows for many furniture groupings. The furnishings were sized to fit the space perfectly and the fabrics were chosen with daily use and easy-cleaning in mind. The many layers of textured and printed fabrics add visual interest and emulate the clients’ collective style. The clients love the new furnishings in their living room. “We were at loss for how to make it look elegant, beautiful, and yet functional. DOWNLOAD NOW   This large kitchen had a lot going for it in terms of the large open space and work triangle, however the honey oak cabinets and laminate countertops left a lot to be desired. The small range was replaced with a large pro-style cooktop. Space from an existing pantry was reworked to allow for the addition of double ovens, refrigerator and butler pantry type storage. A new larger window was added and relocated to allow for better placement of the sink, and a bar area was redesigned into a more functional and visually pleasing area. This young family wanted a unique design that was not a “cookie cutter” space. To accomplish this, Klimala designed a large custom hood flanked by large storage cabinets. The hood area is a steel gray repeating the color of the island giving each of those areas equal weight and a sense of balance. The large island that houses storage and a microwave drawer is topped with a walnut butcher block. The walnut is repeated at the mantle hood and in some shallow shelving for spice storage near the cooktop. Hardworking gray quartz countertops were chosen for the rest of the space and gray limestone brick adds some texture to the backsplash area. The unique circular glass mosaic tile at the cooktop provides a stunning focal point. Globe shaped pendants repeat the circle theme above the island. The 1980s kitchen was good and serviceable for the couple, requiring mostly clever styling to bring it into Begg’s taste. Her dad’s shed yielded an old ladder that just needed staining before being hung above the kitchen sink for pots. Updated appliances and plenty of retro finds were sufficient to create a stylish hub for cooking and entertaining. The layout of the house meant that the couple had room for a casual dining area, a chance for Begg to mix her tulip-style chairs and pedestal table – another vintage find.
