Innovative Design Build was hired to remodel an existing fireplace in a single family home in Boca Raton, Florida. We were not to change the footprint of the fireplace or to replace the fire box. Our design brought this outdated dark bulky fireplace that looked like it belonged in a log cabin, into 2020 with a modern sleeker design. We replaced the whole surround including the hearth and mantle, as well as painted the side walls. The clients, who prefer a more coastal design, loved the traditional brick pattern for the surround, so we used creamy colors in a multi format design to give it a lot of texture. Then we chose a beautiful porcelain slab that was cut using mitered edges for a seamless look. We then stained a custom mantle to match other wood tones in their home tying it into the surrounding furniture. Finally we painted the walls in a lighter greige tone to compliment the newly remodeled fireplace. This project was finished in under a month, just in time for the clients to enjoy the Christmas holiday.

Refinishing in Culver City - Repairs : Once the sanding of the floors was completed, a worker noticed some areas of concern. Due to heavy traffic some of the boards were in rough shape; after locating a wood to match, the worker was able to remove the damaged boards and replace them with a new ones. Now, you can't even tell old from new. Seamless work!

The deck on this Traditional Colonial home is a waterproof vinyl deck with a TimberTech Radiance Rail system and decorative light cap post covers. All the water is diverted to the exterior mounted gutter system. This deck project was a replacement for a deck system that had a curbing and built-in gutter that completely failed. This is a superior construction technique. Photos by Doug Woodside, Decks and Patio Covers

Great design makes all the difference - bold material choices were just what was needed to give this little bathroom some BIG personality! Our clients wanted a dark, moody vibe, but had always heard that using dark colors in a small space would only make it feel smaller. Not true! Introducing a larger vanity cabinet with more storage and replacing the tub with an expansive walk-in shower immediately made the space feel larger, without any structural alterations. We went with a dark graphite tile that had a mix of texture on the walls and in the shower, but then anchored the space with white shiplap on the upper portion of the walls and a graphic floor tile (with mostly white and light gray tones). This technique of balancing dark tones with lighter tones is key to achieving those moody vibes, without creeping into cavernous territory. Subtle gray/blue/green tones on the vanity blend in well, but still pop in the space, and matte black fixtures add fantastic contrast to really finish off the whole look!

Contemporary mosaic design based on Cynthia Fisher's fine art mosaic abstract, 'Pavement Fractals'. I created this mosaic in my studio, shipped it on panels to CA and it was carefully installed by a local tile company. homeowner, photo credit

Over the course of two months, both pergolas were carefully dismantled and rebuilt in the same footprint using durable cedar. Every element was designed to echo the original architecture while adding subtle enhancements that elevated the overall aesthetic. Custom rafter end detailing and new trim accents on the columns brought an extra level of refinement, complementing the home’s classic colonial character. The most delicate part of the project involved replacing the old, buried posts without disturbing the wisteria’s root system. The team used protective barriers and hand-digging techniques to safeguard the vine while ensuring the new structures were solid and long-lasting.

The knock down & rebuild revolution is here to stay. This new modern family home replaces a tired old house that was not designed to capitalise on its location, whereas this new contemporary modern building has been designed to capitalise on the natural environment – natural sunlight, sea breezes & sea views, to create a very liveable coastal family home. This new residence with its contemporary coastal styling utilises the natural finishes of modern materials to ground this family home’s context into this locations evolving executive seaside neighbourhood. This buildings design is a balance of form & function with a deliberate consideration of passive solar liveable design techniques, designed to capture the natural sunlight, sea breezes & sea views that this property offers. This new residence has been designed with a variety of indoor & outdoor living areas to capitalise on the natural environment & climate of this property’s location. This house incorporates design elements to allow the house to be comfortable all year round, providing a variety of areas for occupants to utilise, whether it be capturing natural sunlight & warmth in winter, creating cooling cross ventilation from sea breezes in summer & then there is the direct access to a beautifully natural landscaped garden, this new house will provide the occupants with a low maintenance, healthy living environment for years to come.
