The iron balusters were carefully chosen to complement the home's breathtaking interior architectural moldings and European aesthetic, creating a cohesive flow throughout the space. Magnolia takes the idea of indoor and outdoor living to a new level. The entire first floor of the residence is built on two sides of an outdoor entertainment lanai which features a summer kitchen for grilling and loads of space. An open plan kitchen, dining, and family room are on one side of the lanai and a large detached game/play room with separate bath is on the other side of the lanai. The game/play room has 90 degree, floor to ceiling stacking doors which pocket into the wall cavity making the game/pay room completely open to the lanai. The master bedroom and master bathroom, 100 square foot loft, and two additional bedrooms with a hall bath and laundry room comprise the entire second floor. A side entry, three car garage is attached to the front of the house which helps to define the courtyard entry. The home has 2,854 square feet of air conditioned space with a total under roof square footage of 4,315.

Melanie's inspiration for this sunroom was the grand era of the 1920’s when the prosperous gold coast of Long Island was built. The Sun Room pays homage to the glamorous, opulent lifestyles of the wealthy industrialists who were the residents of the Gold Coast estates in the 1920’s. We preserved the original aged brick walls and intricate metal work in the windows and chose materials for the room that would reflect and refresh the original design. Melanie chose two teal and white Mamounia rugs from The Rug Company in silk and wool to reflect the pattern in the metal work on the windows. Natural light was a major component when designing the sun room so we used reflective objects from mirrored pillows, brass light fixtures, brass objects in addition to a huge brass wall mirror to capture the natural sun light in the room. The estate is set on 6 rolling acres of land, so we used oversized planters with boxwood, and a huge aceda palm tree in the oversized ottoman to bring that outdoors into the room. A one-of-a-kind natural, driftwood table with teal resin from Andrianna Shamara's brings more nature into the room and sits in front of the waterproof Vondom sofa which was custom-made in Valencia Spain. All of the seating in the Sun Room is outdoor furniture and waterproof. A huge Brass sputnik light fixture sits above the sun room reflecting more light into the large brass mirror. An Ironies honeycomb table brings in texture to the room and holds reflective brass candlesticks and large piece of turquoise Slag Glass sits on an Oscar De La Renta book, another American style icon. A Milo Baughman brass bar carts holds a Christofle Martini shaker, martini glasses and a Gabriella Crespi brass and crystal ice bucket would service the captains of industries who displayed their fortunes from the industrial revolution with lavish parties in the their grand estates to celebrate the opportunities and accomplishments that they had worked so hard to achieve. Our job was to enhance the character and comfort of this communal space, where our vibrant village residents come together for a diverse range of activities throughout the week. From spirited games of darts and cozy movie nights to lively coffee group gatherings and the eagerly anticipated Friday happy hour, our design aimed to create a welcoming haven for this active and sociable group of retirees. Wainuiomata has a strong sense of community in which the locals take great pride in being a part of. Responding to this was essential to the brief by paying close attention to the geographic features, history and cultural significance of Wainuiomata as a place. To complement these features, the interior design works as an extension of the outside; the palette is inspired by the raw materials, colours and robust forms seen in the nearby natural environment. Moments of forest greens are featured in the joinery and wall colours, paired with warm timber accents and stony textures on the servery benchtops and fireplace surrounds. Grooved details on the wall panelling and intricately woven textures in the furniture upholstery further add to the refined rustic feel.

This brick and stone residence on a large estate property is an American version of the English country house, and it pays homage to the work of Harrie T. Lindeberg, Edwin Lutyens and John Russell Pope, all practitioners of an elegant country style rooted in classicism. Features include bricks handmade in Maryland, a limestone entry and a library with coffered ceiling and stone floors. Perched atop a hill overlooking the picturesque Los Osos Valley, this project is an addition to an existing contemporary craftsman home. The clients, who are frequent entertainers and music aficionados, enjoyed their main residence for some time before deciding to add on what would become the entertainment space they had always dreamed of. The addition is situated adjacent to the main house, seamlessly connected by a new gallery breezeway. The breezeway, with views out to the hilltops beyond, acts as separate entry for guests during large parties. This new addition pays careful attention to the proportions of the main house, while taking cues from iconic craftsman homes like the Gamble House. Inside, vaulted ceilings and expertly crafted woodwork display a substantial vinyl music collection and state of the art stereo system. Open seating space, a beautifully detailed bar and fireplace make the space ideal for entertaining large groups. When they are not hosing parties, the clients utilize the space to enjoy their large classical music collection. Custom 12' sliding wood wall panels partition off a portion of the great room space to create an acoustically optimized music listening room. With careful attention to detail and craftsmanship throughout, this addition has surely become the gem of this quintessential Central Coast home.
