This remodel was a dated 1980s Cape Cod style home that desperately needed updating with the kitchen starting as the foundation for the rest of the home. The owners purchased the property in 2013 with the intent of replacing the existing kitchen installed in 2000, as well as updating most surfaces throughout the home. The space while moderately sized, felt cramped due to the L-shaped design and eat-in island that disrupted traffic flow from the mudroom, dining room and sliding doors to the patio. The owners knew they wanted to bring the light from the southern facing front of the home to the dark cave-like feeling of the kitchen. This was remedied by knocking down the wall between the existing dining room (now a lounge area), widening the entrance to the family room and creating a pathway to the existing formal living room (now the dining room). Also to create better traffic flow into the kitchen, the existing mudroom door was moved to the opposite side of the wall. A large work island with cooktop, oven and convection/microwave was designed for efficiency and maintaining clean site lines. The work triangle allows for quick and easy meal prep and clean-up for the busy family. Space at the end of the kitchen was perfectly suited for a large kitchen table with views of the back yard, easy conversation with the cook at the island or those hanging in the newly appointed lounge area. The new doorway between the kitchen and dining room showcases the 10ft floor to ceiling bay window, allows more light to flood into the space and creates easy access between the two rooms for family gatherings. Given the home owners relocated to the area for job reasons and are not sure how long they will be in this home, we helped them achieve a balance of a design and finishes that they not only love, but would be appealing to many if another move was in their near future. Greenfield Cabinetry Hancock door style with reverse raised panel in Chalk painted finish were installed in this kitchen. Amenities included are: roll-out trays, drawers, double wastebasket cabinet, tray dividers, pantry pull-out, diagonal super susan, and peg drawer inserts. MSI Calacatta Laza Quartz with ¼” double roundover edge are installed in the kitchen and desk area. The tile backsplash is Craft II White Gloss 3x12 tile on the range and sink walls. A Blanco Precis double bowl kitchen sink with 1-3/4” low divide in white with a Moen Arbor U faucet with pull-down spray. A new Andersen 400 Series window was installed in the kitchen. In the kitchen pantry, custom ¾” birch plywood shelving was installed. Three custom floating shelves were installed over the desk area. Daroca 12x24” Atar tile was installed on the floor.

In this kitchen, Medallion Cabinetry in the Providence Reversed Raised Panel door with Painted Chai Latte was installed on the perimeter and Maple Espresso Stain on the island. A 5’ Galley Workstation with Bamboo Accessories was installed in the island. The countertop is Cambria Britannica Quartz. The backsplash is Crossville 3x12 Handwritten Series in Post Card color. Also installed is an XO Ventilation 42” Chimney Style Hood.

We kept the functional layout of the kitchen, enormous skylights, character brick and custom copper range hood, but refaced cabinetry and replaced countertops, backsplash, paint and fixtures. And they didn’t want it to stand out too much from rest of home, though they plan on remodeling their bathrooms in the near future, and likely much of their home. They are very happy with the final product, and we achieved the “new traditional” look they desired. They were very impressed with our service and left an amazing, thorough review. They plan on using us for their future projects as well.

The backsplash is Emser 3x8 Passion Gloss Azul Tile and the tile on the floor is Emser 9x9 Design Mural Tile. The hardware on the cabinets is Top Knobs Hillmont pull in flat black.

Kichler satin etched case opal glass shade sconce in brushed natural brass and Greyson 8-light chandelier by Homeplace Lighting in Aged Brass. The shower consists of a heavy swing door enclosure with polished nickel edging. Kohler Ladena undermount sinks in white, Cimarron comfort height toilet, Kohler Riff collection in polished nickel include: 2 wide-spread faucets, floor-mount bath filler with handshower, double robe hooks, pivoting toilet paper holder, towel bars and rings. Kohler polished nickel slidebar with square escutcheons, round two-function handshower. Hibiscus 67” freestanding oval acrylic tub finished in white.
