Shown here is the desk alcove from the award-winning Pennsylvania Room, with an antique desk and George III chair, and a portrait of Major James Reid, from the Anderson House museum collection, Washington, D.C. This space features the naval history of Pennsylvania in the Revolutionary War, including portraits of John Paul Jones, and John Barry (called the Father of the American Navy), and a a painting of the battle of the BonHomme Richard against the Serapis. Books added to the space also tell the history of Pennsylvania and the Revolutionary War. The chandelier was found in an antique store in New Jersey. Since this space had once been a linen closet (prior to the previous renovation), there was no crown moulding. With such a small area (the room is square, and only looks rectangular due to the wide angle lens) the ceiling was visually lowered by creating a tray effect with a wallpaper used on the ceiling and partway down the wall, adding a paintable border to appear as if it were crown moulding, and a wallpaper below it in the light blue of the adjacent bedspread and draperies, a color associated with the Society of the Cincinnati. The antique chair's seat was rewebbed for better support. The exposed pipe on the wall on the left was painted the same color as the wallcovering (a much closer match in person than in this photograph). Bob Narod, Photographer, LLC

Seen here is a closeup of the custom embroidered pillow, with the seal of the Society of the Cincinnati, a Revolutionary War organization founded by George Washington and the other Revolutionary War officers. The pillow used two fabrics and two trims to frame the embroidered seal. The trim colors repeat the colors of the oriental rug. The custom quilted bedspread is in a Thibaut fabric, and has a French flap, or reverse sham, to make it easy for any guest or staff member to make a beautiful bed. Closeup of the military inspired window treatment and Lincrusta ceiling treatment in this award-winning guest bedroom, the Pennsylvania Room, at Anderson House, the headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati, a Revolutionary War historical organization. The Lincrusta wallcovering is embossed, and was custom painted in two colors after installation. The fleur-de-lis finials represent the French contribution to our independence. A custom embroidered seal of the Society of the Cincinnati is at the center of the lifted swags on a flat pelmet. Custom banding on the draperies and valance, and the creation of epaulets for the "shoulders": of this window treatment were inspired by the portrait over the fireplace (not shown here). This award-winning guest bedroom project now tells the story of Pennsylvania's role in the Revolutionary War. Chairs are in a Philadelphia style, reupholstered in a Thibaut crewel fabric. The window treatment, in a Thibaut jacquard woven fabric, with a tailored balloon shade in the same crewel fabric used on the chairs, is inspired by the uniform of the officer in the portrait over the fireplace (not seen here). The engraving of Benjamin Franklin is from the Anderson House collection. A Wedgwood Philadelphia Bowl on the antique dresser shows the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and Philadelphia landmarks. New Hunter Douglas Parkland wood blinds replaced mini-blinds.
