It was pretty much a blank area but with some elevation issues. The seating wall served 2 purposes as a seating space but also to retain some of the patio. Natural fieldstone steppers lead from the driveway area to the patio. An assortment of perennials and plantings soften the hardscape project. Serviceberry, hybrid dogwood, and a large dwarf pine are the anchor plants. We also created a raised vegetable garden space off the patio too. Marc Depoto (Hillside Nurseries Inc.)

Inspiration for a large contemporary wooden u-shaped open and glass railing staircase remodel in Toronto

The shape of the angled porch-roof, sets the tone for a truly modern entryway. This protective covering makes a dramatic statement, as it hovers over the front door. The blue-stone terrace conveys even more interest, as it gradually moves upward, morphing into steps, until it reaches the porch. Porch Detail The multicolored tan stone, used for the risers and retaining walls, is proportionally carried around the base of the house. Horizontal sustainable-fiber cement board replaces the original vertical wood siding, and widens the appearance of the facade. The color scheme — blue-grey siding, cherry-wood door and roof underside, and varied shades of tan and blue stone — is complimented by the crisp-contrasting black accents of the thin-round metal columns, railing, window sashes, and the roof fascia board and gutters. This project is a stunning example of an exterior, that is both asymmetrical and symmetrical. Prior to the renovation, the house had a bland 1970s exterior. The hardwood flooring is custom made, 5/8" x 3,5,7" plank. Wirebrush rustic white oak with a custom bevel, stain and finish. Stair treads are solid white oak with paint grade risers to match the floors.

Using a bold Indoor/Outdoor area rug in the entrance foyer is a perfect example illustrating that you do not have to sacrifice practicality for high-design. The silver table from Z Galleries adds a touch of elegance as well as serving as a practical surface to place keys, bags, etc. Bannister, railings and stair risers painted "almost" black" and cause you to gaze up to the chandelier.
