This newly constructed home offers an expansive floor plan with spectacular views of the countryside through the many windows seen throughout the home. The foyer commands particular attention with its floating staircase and exquisite polished porcelain flooring. Continuing into the living area, wide-planked, antiqued maple flooring grounds the room, while custom Norwalk and Fairfield furniture sits atop Karastan rugs. The kitchen is a chef’s dream come true with ample room to cook and entertain among the custom cabinets. Chisel-edge porcelain tile was installed in a random pattern, perfectly complimenting the Ash Gold granite countertops and tumbled travertine backsplash. The master suite allows for a relaxing retreat with calming colors seen in the bedding, custom silk drapery, and cozy, hand-knotted Kalaty rug. Stepping into the master bath, the porcelain tile, soaker tub, and custom tiled shower create a peaceful oasis. Kim Johnson, Interior Designer, enjoyed helping her clients select products from a variety of vendors to create a beautiful new home for this family. Full custom, contemporary, fully integrated, and push-to-open cabinetry was outfitted for this new kitchen in this beautiful colonial home. The earthy tones and materials used are a nice way to tie the traditional aspects of the home into the kitchen, with the client having such modern taste. The perimeter uppers are walnut, grain matched, while the lowers and island are a painted matte finish. The whole space has no hardware, with push to open fridge, and ovens and a knock to open dishwasher. Under cabinet lighting was integrated on the island for a floating glow and on the upper cabinets as well for utility lighting.

Beauty in the Details Project Details Designer: Amy Van Wie Cabinetry: Brookhaven I – Frameless Cabinetry Wood: Maple Finishes: Antique White on Perimeter; Distressed Black Espresso Glaze on Island Door: Perimeter – Edgemont Recessed; Island – Edgemont Raised Countertop: Grey Soapstone Awards 2013 Parade of Homes, Pinnacle Homes-Best Kitchen 2013 NKBA Tri-State Award Columbia Cabinets designed the cabinetry for this stunning home that was featured in the 2013 Parade of Homes and is a multi-award design winner. After the initial meet with the clients and Witt Construction, I began to think about how the space could work. The cabinets were crafted with Edgemont Recessed doors in maple with an antique white finish…a perfect selection for the kitchen’s traditional/coastal design. For countertop, I suggested modern grey soapstone. With a nod to today’s popular trend to mix and match finishes, the island was completed in a black espresso glaze distressed finish with maple Edgemont Raised doors. What really distinguishes this project is the attention to the details. Along the refrigerator wall, the shelf area has lowered seeded mullion glass cabinets and a valance. This created an airy, open look within the space. The bead board accents and corbels throughout the kitchen complete the design.

Designer: Paul Dybdahl Photographer: Shanna Wolf Designer’s Note: One of the main project goals was to develop a kitchen space that complimented the homes quality while blending elements of the new kitchen space with the homes eclectic materials. Japanese Ash veneers were chosen for the main body of the kitchen for it's quite linear appeals. Quarter Sawn White Oak, in a natural finish, was chosen for the island to compliment the dark finished Quarter Sawn Oak floor that runs throughout this home. The west end of the island, under the Walnut top, is a metal finished wood. This was to speak to the metal wrapped fireplace on the west end of the space. A massive Walnut Log was sourced to create the 2.5" thick 72" long and 45" wide (at widest end) living edge top for an elevated seating area at the island. This was created from two pieces of solid Walnut, sliced and joined in a book-match configuration. The homeowner loves the new space!! The Watermill House is a beautiful example of a classic Hamptons wood shingle style home. The design and renovation would maintain the character of the exterior while transforming the interiors to create an open and airy getaway for a busy and active family. The house comfortably sits within its one acre lot surrounded by tall hedges, old growth trees, and beautiful hydrangeas. The landscape influenced the design approach of the main floor interiors. Walls were removed and the kitchen was relocated to the front of the house to create an open plan for better flow and views to both the front and rear yards. The kitchen was designed to be both practical and beautiful. The u-shape design features modern appliances, white cabinetry and Corian countertops, and is anchored by a beautiful island with a knife-edge marble countertop. The island and the dining room table create a strong axis to the living room at the rear of the house. To further strengthen the connection to the outdoor decks and pool area of the rear yard, a full height sliding glass window system was installed. The clean lines and modern profiles of the window frames create unobstructed views and virtually remove the barrier between the interior and exterior spaces. The open plan allowed a new sitting area to be created between the dining room and stair. A screen, comprised of vertical fins, allows for a degree of openness, while creating enough separation to make the sitting area feel comfortable and nestled in its own area. The stair at the entry of the house was redesigned to match the new elegant and sophisticated spaces connected to it. New treads were installed to articulate and contrast the soft palette of finishes of the floors, walls, and ceilings. This modern transitional home boasts an elegant kitchen that looks onto a large informal living room and shares space with the dining room and butler's pantry. Senior designer, Ayca, selected design elements that flow throughout the entire space to create a dynamic kitchen. The result is a perfect mix of industrial and organic materials, including a leathered quartzite countertop for the island with an unusual single-sided waterfall edge. The honed soapstone perimeter countertops complement the marble fireplace of the living room. A custom zinc vent hood, burnished brass mesh cabinet fronts, and leather finish slabs contrast against the dark wood floors, ceiling, and upper beams.
