Coming from Minnesota this couple already had an appreciation for a woodland retreat. Wanting to lay some roots in Sun Valley, Idaho, guided the incorporation of historic hewn, stone and stucco into this cozy home among a stand of aspens with its eye on the skiing and hiking of the surrounding mountains.

Originally submitted for the Model Homes category, the judges felt this entry deserved an ARDA in Design Detail. Inspired by the British Revolution, the rustic yet modern style employs a neutral color scheme with various textures. Traditional elements paired with refined furniture and contemporary finishes result in a design inspired by history. Hues of gray as well as rustic wood paneling create continuity through the home. Creating each space to accommodate a family was challenging due to the narrow width of the townhome.

Reclaimed vintage oak floors set the foundation for this cabin kitchen and dining space. Raw edge granite countertops add a natural feel to the space. The lighting selections also have a vintage steam punk type design and adds to the contemporary rustic design.

This charming powder room features a farmhouse style pedestal sink beneath a window overlooking the lake, with slate flooring and a striped runner rug adding texture underfoot. Reclaimed Wood Paneling lines the walls, and a Reclaimed Wood Trim frames the window and doorway, bringing natural warmth into this cozy, cabin retreat powder room.
Every piece of reclaimed wood at Manomin Resawn Timbers is salvaged from 19th and early 20th century barns, factories, and warehouses, structures built during the Industrial Revolution from old growth hardwoods that grew slower and denser than the trees available today. Through our detailed process of denailing, kiln drying, and precision milling, that history is preserved and prepared for a new life in modern homes.
Whether you are a homebuilder, a home remodeling contractor, a homeowner, or a designer planning a space like this one, Manomin Resawn Timbers has reclaimed wood paneling and custom trim to fit your vision. Visit our showroom in Hugo, MN or reach out to us with a call or a message to discover the antique charm of reclaimed wood.

This client wanted their Terrace Level to be comprised of the warm finishes and colors found in a true Tuscan home. Basement was completely unfinished so once we space planned for all necessary areas including pre-teen media area and game room, adult media area, home bar and wine cellar guest suite and bathroom; we started selecting materials that were authentic and yet low maintenance since the entire space opens to an outdoor living area with pool. The wood like porcelain tile used to create interest on floors was complimented by custom distressed beams on the ceilings. Real stucco walls and brick floors lit by a wrought iron lantern create a true wine cellar mood. A sloped fireplace designed with brick, stone and stucco was enhanced with the rustic wood beam mantle to resemble a fireplace seen in Italy while adding a perfect and unexpected rustic charm and coziness to the bar area. Finally decorative finishes were applied to columns for a layered and worn appearance. Tumbled stone backsplash behind the bar was hand painted for another one of a kind focal point. Some other important features are the double sided iron railed staircase designed to make the space feel more unified and open and the barrel ceiling in the wine cellar. Carefully selected furniture and accessories complete the look.

A summer house built around salvaged barn beams.
Not far from the beach, the secluded site faces south to the ocean and views.
The large main barn room embraces the main living spaces, including the kitchen. The barn room is anchored on the north with a stone fireplace and on the south with a large bay window. The wing to the east organizes the entry hall and sleeping rooms.

There are a few ways to get to this beautiful back porch and they all lead to the same well-crafted destination. This exterior space continues the rustic cabin theme of exposed logs, reclaimed features (like the door), and detailed stone work on the walls and floor.
