In this case, a difficult to enter drop-in tub and a tiny separate shower stall were replaced with a walk-in shower complete with multiple grab bars, shower seat, and an adjustable hand shower. What could have been a bland, utilitarian space has been transformed with dark walnut wood, decorative interest and exceptional craftmanship. The suite of bespoke built-in cabinets has created a beautifully organised, multipurpose free-flowing space. Flawlessly spray finished in Inchyra Blue by Farrow & Ball, the dark blue green grey is a dramatic colour which, along with the walnut wood and striking artworks, makes a bold and confident impression. Bespoke walnut wood features Walnut, renowned for its deep, lustrous tones has an enduring elegance. Used for fitted furniture and wall panelling, walnut elevates any space, adding natural warmth and richness. This is especially important for the floor to ceiling shoe cupboard we built here as it helps to keep the footwear fresh. The decorative fretwork pattern also adds visual interest and makes the room feel less enclosed. Custom-made vanity unit This large, sleek handle-free vanity unit provides a generous amount of storage space with a smart interior arrangement with customised waste management. The soft-closing drawers are operated by a smooth, silent, push to open mechanism. The floating design allows for LED lighting underneath the cabinet. Dog shower and storage The purpose-built indoor dog shower is great for hosing down and drying off the dogs. It doubles up as somewhere to wash muddy wellies and golf clubs too. Bespoke shelving and hooks for all the dog paraphernalia keeps the pet zone well-organised and tidy. All in all, the result is a cloakroom which combines highly functional mudroom, utility and cloakroom facilities in an immensely stylish space. Additionally, the homeowners chose folded chequer point treads to prevent slipping and injury, a great added safety feature not a New Zealand building requirement. The entire staircase had to be fully welded because it is outdoors, and in addition it was zinc sprayed and top coated for corrosion protection. This is similar to galenising the stairs but it is not as rough of a process and the owners won’t have to respray the staircase. The stairs were designed for the top piece of the balustrade to be removable so that the homeowners could get larger items in and out of the top floor of their Auckland home. To achieve this, we made a bolt-able connection to the steel balustrade so they can unbolt that section of the balustrade. The handrail was also made a bit wider because the owners wanted a bigger grip.

Safety features, good lighting and proper ventilation improved the usability and enhanced the space for these young adults. We recommended a vent fan that not only removes unwanted moisture but also can stream their favorite music from their smart phones Bluetooth so that the phones can stay safe and dry in a nearby room. Transitional larger format tile in a neutral grey tone, unique and decorative glass tile and brushed nickel edging around the shower cubby added an element of dimension and style. The decorative tile created a stunning focal-point to the back wall of the shower and complimented the brushed nickel fixtures and tending finishes of the white quartz countertop and grey-blend porcelain plank flooring.

The limited amount of usable outdoor space available at this Old Greenwich waterfront home challenged us to make the best use of the space. The client decided to create this 8’6” x 7’ saltwater spa/pool with a stone veneer wall with a built in waterfall and fire feature. The raised Chinese granite and bluestone patio was custom built on a steel substructure that needed to be structurally engineered to support this unique custom design. In addition, the water feature, spa and pool equipment itself was designed for cold weather and 12 months of usage. The stone for the wall was hand selected to match the exterior walls of the residence. The custom 6 ft linear fire feature was set in a sea of cobalt blue and bright white glass on top of the stone wall. To cap the custom fire feature, a hand cut piece of bluestone was used. A sheer decent razor thin waterfall flows from the face of the stone wall into the body of water below. Atop the feature wall sits a stainless steel sculpture by the French artist, Guillaume Roche. The sculpture is part of his Exclos series, which seeks to contrast through concepts such as mass and void. Each piece is unique, designed and realized in his workshop in Etrechy en Essonne, France and compliments the unique design of the water feature. The interior of the pool is finished in a French Gray quartzite accented by a linear Ceramic Waterline Tile. The Custom Saltwater Spa is fitted with 16 Hydro Therapy Jet Inlets and special spa bench seating. The pool utilizes green technology to sanitize the pool with a Jandy saltwater chlorinating system. The Jandy Pro Series WaterColors LED color pool and spa lights with RGBW bring a palate of colors to this backyard paradise for a truly unique atmosphere. The spa lights offer energy efficiency and the colors enhance the brilliance of the nighttime pool experience. The automatic spa safety cover is concealed below a bluestone tread, which blends in with the rest of the spa coping. The Jandy I Aqualink automated pool control system is operated by the Control4 in-house smart system, which allows the client to use a smart phone or computer to control the pool.
