The limited amount of usable outdoor space available at this Old Greenwich waterfront home challenged us to make the best use of the space. The client decided to create this 8’6” x 7’ saltwater spa/pool with a stone veneer wall with a built in waterfall and fire feature. The raised Chinese granite and bluestone patio was custom built on a steel substructure that needed to be structurally engineered to support this unique custom design. In addition, the water feature, spa and pool equipment itself was designed for cold weather and 12 months of usage.
The stone for the wall was hand selected to match the exterior walls of the residence. The custom 6 ft linear fire feature was set in a sea of cobalt blue and bright white glass on top of the stone wall. To cap the custom fire feature, a hand cut piece of bluestone was used. A sheer decent razor thin waterfall flows from the face of the stone wall into the body of water below. Atop the feature wall sits a stainless steel sculpture by the French artist, Guillaume Roche. The sculpture is part of his Exclos series, which seeks to contrast through concepts such as mass and void. Each piece is unique, designed and realized in his workshop in Etrechy en Essonne, France and compliments the unique design of the water feature.
The interior of the pool is finished in a French Gray quartzite accented by a linear Ceramic Waterline Tile. The Custom Saltwater Spa is fitted with 16 Hydro Therapy Jet Inlets and special spa bench seating. The pool utilizes green technology to sanitize the pool with a Jandy saltwater chlorinating system. The Jandy Pro Series WaterColors LED color pool and spa lights with RGBW bring a palate of colors to this backyard paradise for a truly unique atmosphere. The spa lights offer energy efficiency and the colors enhance the brilliance of the nighttime pool experience. The automatic spa safety cover is concealed below a bluestone tread, which blends in with the rest of the spa coping. The Jandy I Aqualink automated pool control system is operated by the Control4 in-house smart system, which allows the client to use a smart phone or computer to control the pool.

An updated master bathroom in a vintage 1900 cottage. The plinth based freestanding tub gives an original vintage feel to the room with a decorative grab bar, providing 21st century amenities and safety features. The Quartz counter top is shaped around the tub to add some interest. Although the tile looks like marble it is actually easy care porcelain. Cabinetry and beaded wainscoting was designed to look original to the period and all moldings were matched to the homes original. The blue walls, Sherwin Williams 6477 Tidewater, provide a bright but soothing bath experience.

With an eye toward accessibility, this bathroom is designed to ease the everyday routines of a homeowner who often uses a wheelchair. Universal design strategies guided the project structurally with ADA-compatible elements incorporated throughout. One side of the vanity is set lower and left intentionally open underneath to accommodate the wheelchair when needed.
Visually, the project shines just as bright with white shaker-style cabinetry balanced by warm tones found elsewhere. Oversized warm gray porcelain wall tile partners beautifully with a diminutive square tile on the shower floor, while brushed nickel hardware and quartz countertops complete a timeless, classic appeal.

For this Boston-area former hunting lodge, featured in Outside the Not So Big House by Julie Moir Messervy and Sarah Susanka, JMMDS created a landscape design that anchors the house in the site and complements its Tuscan-inspired architectural update. A carved granite basin provides a water feature that echoes the pond beyond it. It is flanked by a rounded boulder and softened by plantings. Photo: Grey Crawford.

An under used whirlpool tub and inefficient layout were rectified by removing the tub and outdated glass block shower to create a generous walk-in shower area and dual vanity with built ins for storage. Woods and textured materials add warmth and sophistication to the space.

We created this beautiful accessible bathroom in Carlsbad to give our client a more functional space. We designed this unique bath, specific to the client's specifications to make it more wheel chair accessible. Features such as the roll in shower, roll up vanity and the ability to use her chair for flexibility over the fixed wall mounted seat allow her to be more independent in this bathroom. Safety was another significant factor for the room. We added support bars in all areas and with maximum flexibility to allow the client to perform all bathing functions independently, and all were positioned after carefully recreating her movements. We met the objectives of functionality and safety without compromising beauty in this aging in place bathroom. Travertine-look porcelain tile was used in a large format on the shower walls to minimize grout lines and maximize ease of maintenance. A crema marfil marble mosaic in an elongated hex pattern was used in the shower room for it’s beauty and flexibility in sloped shower. A custom cabinet was made to the height ideal for our client’s use of the sink and a protective panel placed over the pea trap.

Transforming this small bathroom into a wheelchair accessible retreat was no easy task. Incorporating unattractive grab bars and making them look seamless was the goal. A floating vanity / countertop allows for roll up accessibility and the live edge of the granite countertops make if feel luxurious. Double sinks for his and hers sides plus medicine cabinet storage helped for this minimal feel of neutrals and breathability. The barn door opens for wheelchair movement but can be closed for the perfect amount of privacy.

Complete Bathroom Remodel;
Installation of all tile; Shower, floor and walls. Installation of floating vanity, shower bench, clear glass enclosure, bathroom safety bars and a fresh paint to finish.

Planika’s Fire Line Automatic 3 is a very unique and technologically advanced fireplace. Being an exceptional addition to sailing units, it creates a comfortable and warm atmosphere with a touch of luxury. Thanks to hassle-free usage and clean combustion, the FLA 3 is a perfect solution when one wants to enjoy fire without having to think about the maintenance. An historic Victorian home in Seattle, Washington receives an update befitting her history and beauty. The design process began by paying close attention to the home's architecture, existing color palette, and hardware details and the homeowner’s design aesthetic. It was important to ensure the renovated rooms would feel period appropriate and flow beautifully from the adjacent spaces. The bathrooms were dressed in Calacatta gold marble, antique brass metal details, ogee edge countertops and painted cabinets with a heritage finish. Elegant stone flooring and trim details, vintage inspired hardware and shower amenities niches were included to elevate the spaces. The laundry room transformation included penny floor tiles, an unexpected sidesplash detail, and a show stopping wallcovering to add a big wow factor. Our signature hidden drying racks and a concealed laundry chute cabinet add convenience and help to keep the laundry room tidy and organized. This laundry room, complete with a secret elevator, makes the tedious task of laundry a joy to complete!
